Author's note: Hello Again! This is kind of a companion piece to "My Brother's Keeper." But this one stars Susan and Lucy. Still in my unusual style. :) It's Susan's POV. Hope you enjoy and please review at the end! :D

Keeper of Secrets

I am the Keeper of Secrets. She is the Keeper of Dreams. Together, we walk through the silent castle, keeping watch over those we love. But not tonight. Nay, the Dream Keeper lies cold with fever. I do not leave her side. I, who am the Keeper of Secrets, watch for the Keeper of Dreams.

"Awake," I whisper. "Awake and sing. Sing of your dreams, my little June Lilly. Sing again for me." But she does not wake. Her twinkling eyes are closed. A smile no longer graces her face.

My own is grim and hard set. I have tried to shelter her from all harm. Long have I kept up the vigil. Long have I watched her sleep. I, who am the Keeper of Secrets, wait for the Keeper of Dreams.

I wait for her to tuck her arm in mine. I wait for the summer breeze to lift her hair. The color has left her once rosy cheeks. She is still. So still. The rise and fall of her chest is the only gate holding her from darkness. Holding her from Death. And I, who am the Keeper of Secrets, wait for the Keeper of Dreams.

"Death be away from this place!" I cry in anguish. "Away from my Keeper of Dreams! Away from my dearest sister! Be gone! She shall not be yours this night."

And the dark breeze begins to blow towards the ocean, away over the waves. Away back to its black gates of doom. And her breathing stills. And I, who am the Keeper of Secrets, mourn for the Keeper of Dreams.

I begin to weep. "My sister! What have I done? What have I done, that you should go thus? Do not depart to where I can never follow! Where is your Valiance? Where are you, Keeper of Dreams?" I throw myself down and cry. And I, who am the Keeper of Secrets, mourn for the Keeper of Dreams.

A hand touches my hair.

"Do not weep," she says. "Valiance is here, dear sister. I have returned to the Keeper of Secrets. I have returned to you." I look up and she is there. Still pale and worn, but her eyes sparkle with life. "It is not time for me to pass the black gates. I am still young and strong of heart. Death shall not have me, sister-mine." I rejoice and we throw our arms around each other. And I, who am the Keeper of Secrets, rejoice for the Keeper of Dreams.

"We shall remain strong together, O My Sister!" I vow. "We, who are the Keeper of Secrets and the Keeper of Dreams."

I am the Keeper of Secrets. She is the Keeper of Dreams. Together, we walk through the silent castle, keeping watch over those we love. Forever.

Finis.
