Borra Week, Day 6: Surprise

She's been dancing around something all night, and he can't for the life of him figure out what it could be. They've been lying in bed for over an hour curled around each other, but she hasn't made any move to extinguish the lamps. She's been mixing some casually probing questions with the normal conversation. Her voice is relaxed, but he can see her watching him intently out of the corner of his eye. She asks him questions about what he wants to do with his life, where he wants to go, what he wants to become. He can't see what she's getting at and the curiosity is nearly eating him alive, but he knows better than to push her when she's in a mood like this.

As the night creeps on he does his best to answer her questions as openly and honestly as he can, but he still can't understand what she's trying to get from him. He can feel her agitation and tucks her against his side, taking one of her hands in his. As she talks, she plays with his hand, twisting her fingers with his, and pressing it to her mouth as he answers her. He can feel a faint smile on her lips as she listens to him and her fingers softly brush over his skin, tracing gentle circles. Finally she rolls over, so close that he can feel her breath against his ear. She whispers that she has a secret to tell him and moves his hand to press against her stomach. It takes a long, long moment for him to understand. Then she's crying, they're both crying and clutching each other tightly, smiling and laughing through the tears. He never could have seen this coming, but at this moment he has no doubt that he's the happiest man in the world.
