Leonard stood outside the door of 4A, listening to the conversation inside.

"Pete and Repeat were in a boat. Pete fell out. Who's left?"

"Pete and Repeat were in a boat. Pete fell out. Who's left?"

"Penny, I just told you. Repeat."

"Pete and Repeat were in a boat-"

"Penny, why are we going over this? I've told you twice now. Reapea- OH. I see. That is amusing." Breathy laugh.

Leonard opened the door then and saw the two sitting (closer than usual?) in their normal spots on the couch. He noticed out of the corner of his eye that Penny seemed to shift away from Sheldon when he came in. Odd (suspicious?).

"Hey Sheldon," he greeted as always. "Hey, Penny, what're you doin' here?"

Penny tried to look nonchalant, and almost pulled it off. "Oh, y'know, tryin' to confuse Sheldon. It's just so funny."

Sheldon smiled (Sheldon has a smile that isn't Jokeresque?) and continued, "Penny was just telling me a joke. 'Pete and Repeat were in a boat. Pete fell out. Who is left?' Since 'Pete' fell out, only 'Repeat' was left, but when you answer the question they interpret it as the command, not the name of the person in the boat. It's meant to loop the joke indefinitely." Another breathy laugh.

Leonard gave up on Sheldon years ago, so just said, "Yeah, Sheldon. I get it. Very amusing. I'll, uh...be in my room if you guys need anything. I have experiment results I need to type up."

As Leonard was nearing his room he heard Penny ask, "So, I'm making spaghetti tonight. Wanna share?"

Leonard expected Sheldon to say something along the lines of "Penny, I don't share meals, that would be unsanitary."

What he said instead was, "I'll bring the hot dogs." And it was weird, because in those five words, Leonard could tell that Sheldon was smiling again. There was no hauty derision, no self-importance, no condescension. He was just glad to share a meal with Penny.

"Good. I can't wait." He could tell Penny was smiling, too. She never sounded like that when talking about our dates. Like she's holding back her enthusiasm, trying to sound less excited than she is. Then he thought, Maybe we weren't meant for each other.

A/N: Just another tiny thing I wrote on Tumblr. Sitting in a school library's computer lab is so...boring and quiet. I had to do something, and this just came out.
