Chapter 21- Old friends

I shake my head and put the book back on the shelf. I don't want to think about our time at Hogwarts. While it was fun and reckless, looking back now it makes me feel guilty. I showed very little thought towards what our relationship could really do. I wasn't thinking about the danger my parents were in or the rest of my family. My best friend had just witnessed his enemy rise again from the death and one of our schoolmates had died in order for this to happen. I had no right to purse and continue this relationship with Draco.

And yet I did.

And yet I found warmth and comfort from him when I desperately needed it. I offered it to him too.

I guess in that way it was good that he did stop it in sixth year. It couldn't have continued during the war. Godric, I was so stupid to think that we would be together during that time. Draco was risking everything and I had no idea. What would have happened if Bellatrix had somehow gotten into his mind? We would have both been killed. How is it that we weren't?

I shake my head and look around the shop. I received some strange looks after going through the brick wall and walking into Diagon Ally. But I an odd way it felt as if I hadn't left. It was almost like it was my first was time. I suddenly felt eleven years old again and eager to learn every possible thing about the new World I had been welcomed into. I think Draco must have noticed the odd feelings I had, since he wrapped a hand around my waist.

He and Scorpius are off in the Quidditch shop, leaving me to browse Flourish and Blotts. I've found several books that contain my name, including one whole book dedicated to me. That is just strange. I've also had a few people come up to me and shake my hand and thank me for my work in the war. I don't really understand why they are doing this. I was simply assisting my friend who needed help.

I collect the two books that I want and proceed to walk towards the counter. The man behind it at first refuses to take the money for the books, insisting that I should get them for free after I 'Saved the entire wizarding world'. But eventually I just leave a pile of Galleons on the counter and leave. I am just putting my coin purse back into my bag when I run into someone.

"Oh my goodness I am so sorry." I say helping the person up.

"Hermione?" The person says.

After a closer look at him, I know exactly who he is.

"Dean! Oh, Gosh it's good to see you again, how are you?" I ask pulling him into a hug.

"I'm really good, I'm working in the Ministry. What about you? There's been rumours flying around for years. What are you up to now a days?" He asks.

"I was actually teaching in the muggle world for a while and then, Draco came and one thing lead to another and I ended up fired. It sounds bad, but I promise it's not as bad." I smile.

"Malfoy? Yeah I saw that article in The Prophet, so it's true? You are engaged to Draco." He says crossing his arms in a comfortable manner.

I raise my left hand up to show him the ring. "Yeah it's true, and before you ask, Ron's alright with it. What about you? Anyone special in your life?"

"Well…" He starts smiling at me.

"Dean, you aren't chatting up more girls are you?" A female voice says behind me.

"Hermione." Parvati screamed before flinging herself at me.

"Hi Parvati, how are you?" I ask, after she releases me.

"I'm great, it's you who should be talking, where have you been? Lavender was telling me about some crazy thing about you and Draco Malfoy and then there was that article in The Prophet, but I wanted to ask you about it, but I didn't know where you where, where have you been by the way? The last thing any of us knew was that you were going to Australia and then you just disappeared." Parvati says.

"Hey, Par, maybe you want to slow down a little and let 'Mione speak." Dean says drawing her close.

"Oh, right sorry, that habit hasn't changed." She says smiling a little.

"Don't worry, about it. I was in Australia for about a year, but then I moved back to England and started teaching at a muggle school. I was there for a few years until Scorpius Malfoy walked into my classroom and, well everything changed. And yes, Draco and I are together, in fact we're engaged." I explain.

"Really? That's lovely. Dean and I married last year, we would have invited you but, like I said I didn't know where you were." She says, smiling guiltily.

"That's alright, I wasn't really feeling like joining the wizarding world until I ran into Draco. Speaking of Draco, I was supposed to meet him at Florean Fortescue's about five minutes ago. I'm staying at Malfoy Manor if you want to catch up some other time." I tell them.

"I'll owl you. It was good catching up with you Hermione, see you later." Parvati says hugging me.

"Bye Granger." Dean says waving me off.

I smile. It felt good to see those two again. Of course I wasn't that close to them at Hogwarts, they were still very dear friends and participated in the war. It's also good to know that despite the fact that so many years past we can still, connect in the same way. In a Gryffindor family until the end.

I laugh quietly to myself as I make my way through the streets towards the ice-cream shop. Out the front I see Draco and Scorpius waiting outside. Draco holds two Ice-creams, while Scorp has a bag with a broom sticking out. I smile again. This is my family. Two blond men. The smallest isn't biologically mine, but he feels like he is and as long as he knows this, I don't see any harm in it. The other blonde man is mine. He's realistically been mine my while life.

"Hello, what took you so long? Find so many books you didn't know what to do?" Draco jokes when I finally reach him.

"No, I found the books easily. I just ran into Dean and Parvati. Their married now, would you believe it." I explain, taking my ice-cream from his hand. The best part about magical ice-cream is that it doesn't melt.

"Yeah, it was in the prophet a while back. So, how was the book store?" He asks.

"Brilliant. I found several books that I thought looked interesting, but I settled on just getting two." I answer between licks. He remembered that my favourite is chocolate. "But, I'll tell you the craziest part though, I found a book that was completely dedicated to me. It had an old photo Molly took of me on the cover. How strange is that?"

"Its stranger for me, I have a whole collection dedicated to my family." Draco laughs.

"Well, yes, but your family is infamous. Me, I'm just a muggle-born who happened to like studying. It is stranger for me." I answer. "How was the Quidditch shop?"

"Great, they have this new oil, that you can put on the broom and it will allow it to respond to you from any location." His face light up.

"I see, and this is impressive?" I ask.

"Yes, it's very impressive." He smirked.

"Right, got it." I gave him a thumbs up.

"'Mione? 'Mione Granger?" A booming voice says startling me.

"Hagrid." I smile at the half-giant.

"Wha' are ya doin' back here?" He says walking towards us.

"We were buying Scorpius a new broomstick after it broke this morning. What about you? Aren't you supposed to be at Hogwarts?" I ask once he's closer.

"Nah, it's the weekend. McGonagall don't need me now." He says pulling me into a hug.

"Well, it's good to see you anyway. How have you been? I'm sorry I haven't been in contact, but things happened." I apologise.

"Don't worry 'bout a thing. I read the prophet, I knows all 'bout it." He says, flashing a smile at Draco. "But, I've been good. Lots of creatures still out there. Still teachin' too, though no Hippogriffs."

Draco laughs. "I'm sorry to hear that. They were beautiful creature."

"I'm sorry, introductions. Hagrid, this is my fiancé Draco Malfoy and his son, Scorpius. Scorp this is Hagrid, he teaches at Hogwarts." I explain for Scorpius who was looking a little scared of Hagrid.

"'Ello." Hagrid says holding his hand out for Scorpius to shake.

"Hello." Scorpius squeaks.

"You can go down and visit Hagrid when you get to Hogwarts. Harry used to." I laugh.

"Still does. Every Thursday, Harry visits me. Good man Harry." Hagrid nods. "Anyway, I'll leave yeh to it. Nice seein' yeh again 'Mione."

"You too Hagrid. I'll have to come and visit sometime." I smile fondly at him.

"Maybe a Thursday, then yeh can see Harry too." He smiled widely.

"We'll see. Bye Hagrid." I wrap my arms around him.

"See yeh 'Mione." He replies realising me. He holds his hand out for Malfoy to shake and he does with little problem.

"'Mione, what was that? He was enormous." Scorpius asks eyes following Hagrid as he walked into the Leaky Cauldron.

"I told you. That's Hagrid, he's a professor at Hogwarts. He's also a half-giant, but don't tell him I told you." I tell him, remembering how sensitive he was about his parents.

"Come on. Let's go home, you can try out your broom." Draco says picking up the bag that had his broom.

"'Mione, did you used to visit him for tea?" Scorpius asks.

"Yes Scorp, I had tea and meet with Hagrid every chance I got. He was a good friend. Although his choice of animals was questionable. The only sensible pet he had was Fang." I muse

"Fang?" Draco asks, taking his hand.

"Yeah, the dog you insisted you take with you in first year. When we were in detention." I clarify for him.

"Oh, right." He mutters.

"I thought we were going home?" Scorpius asks, wearing his father's smirk.

"Alright, come on." I laugh taking Scorpius' other hand.

OoOoOo

Once we were home, Scorpius insisted that we all go outside and watch him on his new broom. I promised I would as long as I could also bring one of the books I had found. Unfortunately Draco had missed several calls from his muggle assistant and when he called her back she told him that there was a problem and he would have to go in. He left quickly eager to fix the problem and get back. However it had been an hour and half and he still wasn't back, so I guess it's going to be a while.

"Mione, watch this."

I look away from the book that I'm supposed to be reading to Scorpius. He's riding the broom well, but Draco was a skilled on the broom so it's no real surprise. He speeds off quickly before returning to sight only to have a bundle of flowers.

"Scorpius! You're not supposed to just pick flowers. Where did you get them?" I ask, taking them from him. They really are lovely. They're an assortment of blues. Some a very pale blue, while others are almost black in colour.

"I didn't take them from anywhere. Their wild flowers that grow on the Land." He explains.

"Oh, right got you. I'll get a vase." I smile at him, before accio-ing a vase from inside. I place the flowers in there before using my wand to give them some water.

"Mione look." He calls again.

This time Scorpius flies straight before doing a series of summersaults on the broom. I laugh at him clap my hands

"Good work. When Dad gets back you should show him that." I call to him.

I watch him for a few more moments before turning back to my book. It's a revised edition of the wizarding world's interactions with the Muggle world. It now included the recent war and the past few years. So far it was interesting and even included a few mentions of Order members working to save several muggles who had been caught in the crossfire during our year on the run.

"Draco, I have just read the most ridiculous article about you being engaged to the know-it-all from school. This Skeeter woman has really done it this time. What are you doing here?" A voice screeches.

I turn away from my book and find Pansy Parkinson pointing her wand at me. She hasn't changed that much. She still resembles a pug, though the sincerity of this resemblance has deteriorated a little. She still had straight black hair, though it was a little longer now. She was dressed as any pureblood wife is. She wore a black skirt and shirt and silk black robes. She had silver heels on and wore silver and emerald jewellery. Suddenly despite the fact that this is my own house, I begin to feel self-conscious in my jeans, muggle cartoon t-shirt and converse.

"Um, Hi, Pansy, Can I get you anything?" I ask, sitting up from my slouched position on the chair.

"You can tell me what the hell you are doing in Malfoy Manor." She orders, still pointing her wand at me.

"I live here, moved in a few days ago. Draco and I are engaged. It was in the paper." I offer as an explanation. It's just my luck to get two of Draco's ex's in one day.

"The paper lied. You need to leave." She yells.

"No, I'm not leaving. The paper wasn't a lie, we organised for the interview to happen. Draco and I are going to get married." I inform her firmly.

"Aunt Pansy, why are you pointing your wand at Mione?" Scorpius asks, descending alongside me.

"Oh Merlin, what has she done to you? Granger, stop this spell now." She moves her wand closer to my face.

"Parkinson, I'm warning you. Don't attack me." I warn her, my hand tightening on Scorpius'.

"What are you going to do? Throw a book at me?" She sneered.

"I'm not referred to as the 'brightest witch of our age' for no reason. No would you please lower the wand so I can contact Draco and he can tell you." I say calmly.

"Why should I? What if you attack me?" She asks.

"For goodness sake Pansy, we aren't in a war anymore. Not everyone wants to kill each other. Please just lower the wand, you're scaring Scorpius." I plead.

She glances at Scorpius who has hidden himself behind me. Her eyes flash with emotion, but before I can name it she lowers her wand. My grip on Scorpius loosens and he moves towards her. I don't stop him, because I know that he was genuinely scared of her. She wraps him up in her arms.

"I'm sorry Scorpius, there's a lot of history behind Granger and I." She tries to explain.

"A lot of unresolved history." I add, holding my hand out for him to take. He does and I pick him up and hug him for a moment before placing him back on the ground. "How about we go inside for a drink?"

"Okay." He says before running back into the house.

I turn to Pansy. "I'll find my phone."

"Phone? Why aren't you floo-calling him?" She asks following me into the house.

"He's at a meeting with his muggle workers." I explain, though I'm not sure if it's correct.

"Right." She says bitterly.

I consider trying to reason with her, but I don't think it will amount to anything. She'd just insult me and my intellect, or my hair, or something else. Yeah, there's no point.

I rummage around in my bag for a few moments before finding my phone. I dial Draco's number and tap my foot as I wait for him to answer.

"Hi, Hermione is something wrong?" He says once he finally answers.

"Oh, not really, you know same old, same old. Although someone did stop by to see you, here she is." I pass the phone to Pansy.

She mimics my actions and tentatively speaks into it. "Hello? Draco?"

I guess that Draco replied because her facial expression changes. I sigh, I don't really feel like hearing their conversation. Instead I walk out of the small living room and make my way towards the kitchen. Pansy can find me when I'm done.

However waiting in the kitchen is a Tawny frogmouth, a bird native to Australia. In its beak is a letter. Marion and Scorpius are standing as far away from the bird as possible. It screeches again and flies towards me. I hold my arm out for it to land on and it drops the letter into my hand. It flies off me and once again lands on the kitchen table. It's obviously under instructions to wait for a reply.

I open the letter but once I see the writing I drop it.

"Miss? Hermione what's wrong?" Marion asks making her way towards me.

"She found them." I mumble.

"Found who miss? Who did she find?" Marion asks

"She found my parents."

A/N: Well, that was an interesting development. Someone found Hermione's parents, what shall happen next... I don't even know so this should be interesting. Anyway, thought I would take advantage of the heatwave that's hit Australia and write and post this. On a completely unrelated note, I'm going to Uni next year...YAY. I got into my university of choice... not that you care, but anyway... Hope you enjoyed this, not sure when next update will be.. Merry Christmas and review if you want :)
