This is the second generation after Spirit and Rain.
I neighed in mock alarm as Autumn, my half- sister, crashed into me with her bright ginger tail flashing as she waved it quickly.
"Gotcha," she smirked, and reared up, batting the air with her hooves.
Snorting, I reared up to match her gaze- I'm not going to be dominated by a mare!
In the distance, I heard my father, Sungaze- direct decendant of the legendary Spirit- neigh in... real alarm. I don't know how and why, but I felt tension thicken the air around me. What was happening that was so bad?
Autumn had dropped to the ground before I did, and her ears were pricked, alert.
My front hooves met the earth shortly after hers did, and I too, pricked my ears, swerving this way and that. I then raised my muzzle in the air to meet the scents in the air. Hmm. Nothing that I know of.
Autumn started to look skitty. Her ears were now pinned, and her legs were jittery in fear.
"What is so bad that we have to-"
I heard several mares squeal in terror as a pale blur started before my eyes. I felt so dumb- cougar! It pounced in the middle of the herd, snarling as if challenging any to battle it.
My mother, lead mare, started to lead the herd away, leaving Sungaze to deal with it.
I felt a rush of wind cool my side as Autumn dashed by me, nipping me on the mane. "Come on!" She squeaked, her voice meek. "Let's go!"
I heisitated- I wanted to help my father. The cougar looked menacing- it made my mind rise higher. "I'm going to fight it," I told Autumn, and the chestnut mare gasped in shock I galloped recklessly to the scene.
The cougar had reared up- it obviously knew to defeat the leader, leaving the rest weak and undefended.
Sungaze turned around and bucked up, kicking the cougar with his hard hooves. He glanced up once to see me- and Autumn cantering toward him.
Speckle, my mother, whinnied loudly, and Autumn's own mother, Vixen, called along with her.
As Sungaze and I were distracted, the cougar took the chance- and lashed out a paw, its claws glittering with cold silver. They raked Sungaze's belly- the weakest part of any creature.
I saw Autumn's eyes shimmer suddenly with fear as dark red blood started to rise from the wound. It seemed deep...
I neighed loudly in icy fury- how dare it! I couldn't stand this thing causing damage to the horses I loved.
Boldly, I braced myself and charged- butting my head onto his side. Snarling in pain and anger, it lunged something behind me- Autumn. I opened my jaws to call a warning, but noooooo. She was frozen in shock.
I only neighed when the deadly predetor landed on her square, delivering the killing bite on her neck.
