I am not JK Rowling, no matter how much I wish I could be.

The Marriage Flaw

When marriage goes horribly wrong for the Wizarding World.

This will be the final chapter of the Marriage Flaw :) I just want to say, I apologize in advance, because I feel I have dragged this story on longer than I anticipated and that is entirely my fault. You deserve better. You deserve and entirely wonderfully complete story finished within a week. But that didn't happen because of real life and quite frankly my brain has wondered in 85xxx other directions.

I have put a lot of time and a lot of thought into this fanfic. This was yet another learning experience for me. Only my second fic ever written, I learned things about myself and my writing style. I also learned that in the future I hope to write a fic entirely before I release it. If I am completely honest with myself I feel I rushed the last chapter, if not the last couple. HOWEVER, it doesn't mean I didn't think things through, etc that more means I didn't add any changes to it. I typed it - whatever was in my mind at the moment - and e-mailed it straight to my beta. No mulling it over for days, etc. Does that show? Absolutely. But for me at this moment it's all I had to give. Real life sometimes gets in the way of 'fun'.

That said, I really hope you enjoy the story, I hope you enjoy the ending, and I hope your imagination may fill in a few gaps :) Water under the bridge - onto the next!

Thank you X1000 to Rusty Weasley (you can find him here on ) for being an awesome beta! Also thank you to all of you whom have read this story, left me comments or notes, and asked when I will be finishing it. I write for you guys and just 1 comment makes it worth it. XxOo

Chapter 18

Hermione stood there in shock

"Oh Christ, Hermione!" Ginny said stunned. "What are you going to do?"

Hermione moved without speaking and sat down on a stool. Ginny joined her and they both stared at the vial now resting on the counter.

"I am going to raise this baby…alone."

"Hermione you can't! Surely you aren't thinking of leaving Severus in the dark!"

"And why shouldn't I? It would be no less than he deserved!"

Ginny was quiet. "You know you don't mean that," she said softly. "Hermione, I know you. You're logical, level headed. If you have feelings at all for Severus-" she put her finger up to stop Hermione from protesting, "then you owe it to yourself, and to him, to let him know. Don't take choice away from him."

"Thanks, Gin. I'll let you know what I decide," Hermione said formally as she stood up and ushered Ginny towards the front door.

"Think about what I said Hermione. This isn't just your life you are deciding for any more. There are two other people involved now."

She gave Hermione a hug and saw herself out of the shop.

Hermione stood there in silence with her hand on the front door. She changed the sign to read "Closed" and walked to the back room. There she made herself a cup of tea and sank into the large chair by the fireplace.

Oh my God what am I going to do? Should I tell Severus? Ginny's right- I have to… don't I? Oh … I don't know!

Hermione then stood up and began pacing the room.

Ginny is right; this isn't just about me anymore. This is about Severus and our … baby. Oh God, I can't believe this is happening. I knew it was going to happen eventually, but I imagined much different circumstances.

Finally, she gathered her things and headed back to the Ministry flat she had called home in the past few months. She let herself in and sat down to write the most difficult letter she had ever written.

It surprised Severus that he had heard nothing from Hermione for months. He had pegged the girl to be much more persistent.

The day he took off, he headed to the pub and hid himself in the back corner until Last Call; then walked around until he was sure Hermione would be asleep. He escaped to a small cottage in France. He rented it for 6 months and hadn't looked back since.

When an owl showed up with a letter addressed to him in her script, he wasn't completely shocked. In fact, he half expected it. She was going to be re-assigned, he assumed, and wondered if that had gone well. He took the letter and sat down to read it.

I don't know…

I'm not sure….

What I am trying to say is...

I'm pregnant.

All the best,

"Bloody hell! And she signs it 'All the best.' My God," Severus said as he sat back in shock.

Pregnant. I suppose I should have expected it at some time, but not this way- not now. Well old man, you have a choice to make, stay a coward or face life.

"Severus Snape is anything but a coward," he said to the empty room. He stood up and started packing his bags. He wrote a quick note to the old woman he had rented the cottage from and informed her he wouldn't need it any longer.

*Two days later*

The bookshop's door burst open.

"What in the bloody hell do you mean, 'All the best!' and by owl? Couldn't you have the decency to tell me in person?"

Hermione Granger's eyes went wide at the sight of Severus Snape.

"I beg your pardon, you arse! YOU are the one that took off and left me! In person? I didn't bloody well know where the hell you were because if I HAD, I assure you I wouldn't have sent an owl. You're lucky I even told you- I wasn't going to!"

"Enlighten me, what changed your mind?" he asked, stepping closer.

He rolled his eyes,

"About to be Potter."

"Whoever. She should have kept her nose out of other people's business!"

"So you're saying you would have rather not known? If that's the case," Hermione said as she raised her arm and pointed to the door, "GET OUT!"

"I…" he paused. "I am still… processing everything."

"You think YOU are the only one in shock? It's my body that's being torn apart. I have cramps daily, I can barely keep anything down, and I am only a few weeks in! YOU have no idea what I am even going through or what I am feeling. You were a coward and left!"

"Don't call me a coward," he said dangerously. "If I had known the circumstances I would not have left."

Hermione hung her head and sighed, "Oh Severus what are we going to do?"

"I haven't… I have not thought that far ahead yet."

They stood staring at each other.

Hermione threw her hands in the air. "Well Severus, I don't know what you want me to say, but you have to give me something to work with here!"

"Have you been re-assigned by the Ministry yet?"

"I go in two hours."

"Let's start there first. I believe we no longer have a need for you to be reassigned."

Hermione tilted her head and gave him a little smile.

"Does that mean you're staying?"

"Yes it does."

Severus offered his arm to Hermione and they walked together out the door of the shop and headed toward the Ministry.

Several months later…

"Severus, I never would have suspected your name in the Ministry envelope the day we received our matches, but here we are. I vow to help you love life and to try and see the good in people. I vow to hold you with tenderness and to have the patience that love, and you, demand."

There was a chuckle from the crowd at those words, but Hermione continued.

"I vow to speak when words are needed, and to fight every urge in my being to fill the silence when they are not.

I vow to live within the warmth you show very few people, and to make our house a home. I have seen the best of you, and the worst of you, and I choose both." She gave Severus a smile and she saw the faintest glimmer of amusement in his eyes.

"Hermione, I too never expected to see your name, but now you are carrying my child and becoming my wife. I promise to accept you as the person you are, and that I will not attempt to mold you into anyone else, bossy as you are."

Hermione playfully slapped his shoulder.

"I do not expect perfection from you- just as you do not expect it from me. It means that I shall strive to love you and stand by you even in difficult times. It means knowing your secrets and not judging- as I ask the same of you. It means I care enough to fight for what we have and I promise to be good to you until my heart stops."

Kingsley gestured towards Ginny,

"Do you have the rings?"

She opened her palm and handed them to Kingsley.

"Do you Severus Tobias Snape take Hermione Jean Granger to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

"Do you Hermione Jean Granger take Severus Tobias Snape to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do."

"By the power vested to me as Minister Of Magic, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Severus you may kiss your bride."

"Severus Snape, I love you, but I hate you at the moment!"

"You are being foolish. You knew the trials of childbirth; heaven knows you read enough books!"

"Not. HELPING," she ground out as another pain shot through her abdomen.

"Here she is!" the medi-witch brought in a soft pink bundle wrapped in a warm blanket with a cotton cap.

"She's beautiful!" Hermione said pushing her sweat-soaked hair off of her forehead.

The nurse placed the baby in her arms.

"Severus! Look! She has your eyes." Two tiny black orbs stared up at Hermione.

"And it appears she has your curls."

"What do you think?" Hermione asked the bewildered man.

"She is … beautiful," he said very quietly.

"And she is half yours!" Hermione said beaming at the baby in her arms. "What shall we name her?"

"Have you any names?" he asked rubbing his wife's arm.

"Nia. It means 'bright'."

"Nia. I suppose that would do."

Hermione laughed. "Just do? Don't settle- this is our daughter we are talking about!"

"No, I believe Nia will be a fine name."

"Nia Rowan Snape"

His eyebrow quirked.

"After my mother's maiden name?"

"Yes, she was important to you after all."

"Welcome to the world, Nia Rowan Snape."

I hope you liked my story.

Much, MUCH love - Kay.
