Enjoy Chapter Twelve of Scars and Recognition.

Chapter Twelve: Percy POV
No, no, no, I thought. This can't be happening.
As fast as possible without being unsafe, I was on my way to the hospital. Why, you ask? Well, I had just learned that my mom was in a car crash.
Everything was a blur. I was pretty sure several people had blared their car horns at me, but I couldn't be positive. I was too caught up in trying to make it to the hospital as fast as I could.
I practically threw the car in a parking space, ripping the keys from the ignition and slamming the door, locking it as I sprinted into the hospital.
I ran up to the receptionist desk.
"Sally Jackson," I said, out of breath.
The receptionist quickly looked through her computer, knowing I was heavily distraught.
"She's still in surgery," she told me. "I'm assuming you're her son, Percy?"
"Yeah," I said extremely distracted. "How long has she been in there?"
"The doctor will let you know her condition when he gets out of surgery," she replied calmly. "Please, Percy, take a seat. We will update you as soon as we hear news."
I couldn't sit down. My mom, in the hospital? No way, that never happens. She's too nice of a lady for anything bad to happen to her. I paced back and forth in the waiting room.
A half hour passed before my phone buzzed for the first time. I immediately ignored it, not caring who it was.
Fifteen minutes later, a doctor came out of surgery. I immediately stopped what I was doing, but he called another name and I went back to pacing.
Finally, the doctor I wanted to hear from walked out of the emergency room.
"Percy Jackson?" He asked to the waiting crowd. In no time I sprinted up to him. He turned towards me, that professional look in his eye. "Your mother is alive."
I collapsed from relief so fast that I missed the 'barely' added on to the end of the doctor's sentence.
"Thank the gods," I said under my breath.
"You'll be able to see her shortly," the doctor continued. "She has yet to wake up, so we will continue to do tests and we'll play it by ear. You'll have fifteen minutes max at her side."
I thanked the doctor and finally collapsed in a waiting room chair.
It was not a pretty sight when I finally was able to see my mom. I could only see her head and her arms, but from what I could see she was completely wrapped in bandages.
My heart caught in my throat as nurses milled around her bedside.
"Mom?" I asked. The nurses paid no attention to me and continued on with their work. My phoned buzzed once more, but again I ignored it.
I felt hopeless, truly hopeless. I couldn't approach my mom as the nurses were still working on her, so all I could do was stare. I felt my phone buzz dozens of times in my pocket, but I couldn't answer it.
Eventually, the doctor came and told me I had to return to the waiting room so they could perform some tests. I was reluctant, but I did leave the room.
Upon collapsing in the waiting room chair, I couldn't take it anymore. I broke down in tears. The thought, 'Why us?' passed through my head several times.
My phone continued to vibrate in my pocket and eventually I decided to answer it. I noticed Thalia's name and put the phone up to my ear.
"Hello?" I said, my voice clear something was wrong.
"Percy!" I heard Thalia scream on the other side of the line. "What happened? You're not home and you haven't answered any of my calls! What's going on?"
I didn't know if I could answer her. Just thinking about it made me want to start bawling again. I managed to get it out though, barely.
"Mom's in the hospital."
Thalia went dead silent for several seconds. When she spoke again, she was tentative.
"What do you mean?"
"Mom was – Mom was –" My voice broke.
Thalia took over. "Percy, what hospital?"
I managed, "Northwest," before hearing the other side of the line cut out.
Thalia was here before I knew it. She got a quick explanation from the receptionist before sprinting over to me.
"Percy, are you ok?" She asked. I duly nodded my head. "I'm going to go call my mom real quick alright? Just stay here."
Thalia left for around ten minutes or so. I managed to look at a clock. 7:00? I thought. Time passed by way too fast.
My cousin came back into the room and took a seat to my right. "My mom will be out here tomorrow," she told me. "Everything's going to be alright, Perce."
I had a hard time believing her. How could Thalia be so sure of herself?
I leaned forward, placing my head in my hands, all the while staring off into the distance, trying not to cry.
Thalia stayed with me for the next several hours. It was way after midnight by the time the doctors said I could go into my mom's room.
Thalia followed me. I heard her catch her breath as she walked into the room behind me.
The nurse noticed us come in. She told us to get her if anything happened before closing the door behind her as she walked out.
I never left the hospital. The two of us didn't go to school the next day, as expected. Thalia brought me meals at unorthodox times and I barely slept. A day later, Thalia went into school as per her mother's request. Her mom had arrived the previous day and took over caring for me; making sure I was properly fed and so on.
The main thing that bothered me was the fact that my mother had yet to wake up. She was clearly alive, as the heart-rate monitor showed, but I couldn't help but worry.
No one came to see me except Thalia and her mom. I didn't want anyone to. I was sure people knew about it all over the school, but frankly I didn't care. All I wanted was my mom back.
Two days later, my life changed drastically. I was still at the hospital, as I had been for the last four days, and it was around midnight. Thalia had gone back to the apartment for the night, so I was alone in the room with my mom. The door was closed.
Everything was quiet in the room when suddenly the handle of the door jiggled and started to turn. I rotated my body towards the now-opening door. A man walked into the room. He said just two words.
So, what did you all think? Another cliffhanger, but you guys can probably guess who it is.
First I'll update you all on my stories. Demigod Celebrities did not come out as expected (most of you probably knew that), but I'll try to get on it before the year is out. I was busy surprising my girlfriend at her Hanukkah party (yes, she's Jewish, what do you care?), so I had no time over Thanksgiving. In regards to my other stories, I have no idea when I'll update, they'll just come out as they happen, so be on the look out.
Oh, almost forgot! For all of you that have read House of Hades, you can PM me about it! I have read the book (the day it came out actually), so if you want to talk about it I'm available to talk!
Onto college life! My first semester is officially done and it was amazing! I have an awesome roommate, whom I'd love for all of you to meet, but he'd probably be a little overwhelmed. As of this moment (with 3 grades still coming) I have a 4.0 GPA, which is amazing. More personal questions can come through PM or reviews, because I'm kinda drawing a blank here right now.
Now to Quote Trivia. Who said this quote: "Wow," [she] muttered, "Apollo is hot."
Question of the Chapter: How have you been these past four months? Any great stories you've read?
These questions are pretty easy, but I just want to get back into the flow of things.
Now, make sure to review!
