Prompt #336 from tamingthemuse- Stranded
Note: I'm not sure if there are tree farms in London but for my story there are. =)
Spike watched from the doorway of the bathroom of their hotel room. "Come on, luv. It's not that bad."
"Not that bad? Xander repeated. He turned the cold water on, splashed some on his face before turning it off. "Our flight has been cancelled. We are stranded in L.A for Christmas. Do you know who lives in L.A? Angel that's who!"
"Of course Angel lives in L.A. That's why we came here remember?" Spike asked amused. "Anyway we have a new flight on Boxing Day. We'll be home in a few days. Now stop being so dramatic, it's not like we're stuck in a bloody broken car in the middle of nowhere."
Xander pouted as he dried his face. "So we have to spend Christmas with Angel. ANGEL! And here I thought the end of the world was bad," Xander moaned.
Now Spike rolled his eyes at Xander's dramatics and pulled him into his arms giving him a kiss. "We'll have Christmas with the others when we get back. Besides Angel agreed to do a Christmas dinner for us and his friends didn't he? A turkey dinner with all the trimmings."
"I know. It's just… I don't really know any of them. And Cordelia isn't here," Xander said sadly.
When they reached L.A to help Angel with a demon Xander was crushed to find out Cordelia had died months back. It had been years since he'd seen her and now he'd never get to say goodbye.
Spike petted Xander's unruly hair. "I know, Xan. But you still have the others and you still have me, yeah?"
"I know, it's just hard," Xander mumbled. He pulled away and shook himself, realizing he was being selfish. Angel was Spike's family and maybe Spike wanted to spend the holidays with him. "Angel won't be cooking will he?"
"Actually Angel is a very good cook. Maybe he'll make pancakes for breakfast tomorrow," Spike replied knowing Xander loved pancakes.
Xander really did love pancakes.
Christmas hadn't been so bad. Spike had been right, Angel made pancakes for breakfast and they were delicious. There were no presents handed out not even for the close knit group. They had what they wanted. They were alive.
There was no tree or decorations of any kind but that didn't matter. None of them needed decorations. Not this year.
Fred was curled next to Wesley who had his arm wrapped around her. They each had a cup of hot cocoa in their hands. Spike had one as well but there were more marshmallows than cocoa.
Gunn was playing with the fire making Xander think maybe he was a pyromaniac. But he had a content look on his face one that Xander figured Gunn didn't have often so he kept his mouth shut.
Angel was in a high back chair reading Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol out loud, his Irish accent coming out.
It wasn't the best Christmas Xander had ever had but it was far from the worst either. He'd take Christmas with strangers over Christmas with his biological family.
Xander ran his hand through Spike hair who began to purr and realized that as long as he had Spike no matter where Christmas was spent he'd be happy.
