Title: Arm in Arm
Summary: What happens after Booth & Brennan leave the Diner at the end of "The Proof in the Pudding"?
Disclaimer: I do NOT own "Bones". If I did, Booth would wear more of his snug Flyers T-Shirts. Or be shirtless more.
Dedicated To: avaniheath, because she gave me the prompt. Thanks, girl! Hope you enjoy it!
Arm in Arm
Bones and I walked across the street from the Diner, arm in arm, to get into my SUV. I drove back to her place, and she invited me to come up for a beer. I happily accepted, not quite ready to say goodbye. We turn on the TV, and I throw my arm over the back of the couch. She leans back, allowing my arm to fall across her shoulders. She wasn't a very touchy-feely person, so I was glad when I could have little moments like this, or when I walked with my hand on the small of her back. Just little, casual touches that kept me from going absolutely crazy.
Brennan was immersed in the TV show. I, on the other hand, was focused on her. As she got more into it, she leaned forward, and placed her elbows on her knees while her head rested on her hands. Her flowing, auburn hair rolled down her shoulders, falling slightly into her face. Maybe it was the atmosphere, or the fact that I had fallen a little bit more in love with Brennan today when she kept looking just for me, but I couldn't help but tuck the strand behind her ear. I place a little kiss where her neck and shoulder met, and she jumps slightly.
"Booth, what are you doing?" she asks quietly, her eyes never moving from the TV.
"Indulging myself," I admit sheepishly.
"By kissing my neck?" Her beautiful and piercing blue eyes meet mine, and my breath is taken away.
"Uh-huh," I manage to get out.
"Why?" She tilts her head in the way that she does when she doesn't understand something.
"Because, I've wanted to do little things like that for years," I tell her.
"You have?" I knew that she was stunned; her face and her voice told me that quite plainly.
"Yeah, Bones. I have. Look, I'm not...you don't have to do anything. I don't expect anything from you. I just didn't want to hold back."
"I thought you loved me in a 'professional, atta-girl kind of way'?"
"I was too afraid to tell you the truth. I'm in love with you, Bones."
Suddenly, her lips were on mine. I instinctively part my lips, and her tongue slides into my mouth. I let out a soft moan, and I pull away from her, resting my forehead against hers.
"What was that?" I ask.
"Was I wrong?" She bites her lip.
"No, Bones! That was just, well, really unexpected. I didn't expect that you'd feel the same way about me."
"Of course I do, Booth. You're the best man in the world."
"Thanks, Bones." I grin before kissing her.
Okay, that's that. I hope that Brennan was in character enough. I feel like this is the closest that I've ever gotten. And, Booth, too. I love writing from Booth's POV. And, if you don't count the title/Booth's POV or anything above or below the lines, there are 447 words. That was deliberate. ;-)
