A/N: Hey everyone I'm back with the newest update. I know it's been a little while, but I'm back at college and my schedule doesn't leave me with that much free time to write this. Anyways, on with the story!
"So we're going to enlist the help of Jeff to break into this highly fortified building? No offense to him, but just how do you expect him to help us? Last time he knocked out Elle, and I may not know how your nation is ruled around here, but I don't see that being looked favorably on."
"Yes Azula, we're going to have to have his help. While he may be erratic and unpredictable to say the least, he has a lot of knowledge regarding governmental work. On top of that, he's going to provide us with support while we're in the building so that we can get in and out as quick as possible."
"Okay that is fair. I can see how he will be of some use to us. I really do not want to go inside this building."
"Yeah tell me about it. As for how he's doing, well let's just say that he's sort of on the run like us. That's why we're going to have to meet him at a diner and not at his house."
"I suppose that makes sense. Besides I am very hungry, let's go eat." Azula started packing her stuff into a small, yet very nice and expensive bag that Viktor had given us.
We were in another cheap motel room. Though it wasn't as bad as the first one, the room screamed horror movie. The drab paint was peeling from the walls, there was a large whole in one of the walls, and the faucet in the tiny bathroom was leaky. Hell I'm pretty sure I saw blood on the carpet that they tried to cover up with a cheap rug.
Azula brought me out of my ruse by asking me if I was ready to go. "Oh about that, I-"
"Oh no! No no no no no NO! You are not leaving me in this disgrace of a room all alone while you go off to meet Jeff. We are in this together and that means every step of the way. You got that!"
"Yeah I got that Azula." I sighed, why can't you just trust me on this one? "But can you please just do this for your safety?" This was a long shot at best.
"Absolutely not. Don't you remember what happened last time? That wasn't exactly the best solution to keep me safe. Besides, if we are together you will be able to keep a better watch on me and make sure I'm okay." Damn she does have a point.
"Alright fine you make a good point. Just stay close and watch your back. Today is going to be incredibly important and we can't afford any slipups." I finished packing the rest of my stuff into another bag. With a final look, I cast my glance at the hotel room and locked the door. Time to start this hectic day.
We got in the beat-up car and left the parking lot. We were in some random town on our way to a local diner sort of like Sam and Dean in Supernatural, yet our task seemed a little more farfetched. It was a bleak day out, cloudy and cool that looked like it was going to rain any second yet no water had fallen all day. Boy do I hope this doesn't reflect how the day is going to turn out.
We pulled up to a rundown diner and I shut off the car. This is exactly the kind of place I imagined meeting Jeff. Azula and I walked inside and I instantly saw Jeff sitting alone in a booth. He really could work on his disguise. We sat down, ordered some coffee, and the waitress took our order and left.
"So Jeff, how are you holding up?" I opened up the conversation.
"Eh could be better, could be worse. Ever since the incident with Elle things have been pretty freaking crazy. Just sucks that my mom had to get roped into this and I won't be able to see her for a while. You know? The usual."
"Ah yeah about that," I replied sheepishly. "I really am sorry about what happened back there; I had no idea that Elle was going to show up like that." I don't think anyone could have predicted that one, okay maybe the guy up top writing this fic.
"Hey no worries dude, it's not your fault…well entirely that is. Anyways, how are you guys doing? I see you're both alive and well. Oh by the way, you guys are totally my fave otp. I ship you both so hard."
"What is he talking about?" Azula was perplexed and had no idea what was going on. Then again, I didn't really know what was happening either.
"Yeah I have no idea. Anyways, we're doing pretty well; well as good as we can be given our situation. We ran into Viktor last night. In fact, it is exactly that meeting why I called you here today. I'm going to need your help with something. Something big."
"All right, shoot." He said as he took a sip of his coffee through a straw. Through a straw? Seriously who does that?
"Well as you recall, the device that is going to take Azula-"
"And you as well." Azula interjected.
"Well the device is located in Langley and we have decided to break in and steal it. After talking with Viktor last night, he is going to provide us with the resources that are needed in order to break in and obtain the device. We are just going to need a guy providing recon and that's where you come in."
"So you want me to hack into their database, obtain a floor plan of the building, and provide you with assistance while you're inside the building?" The way he can read minds sometimes is really scary.
"Uh yeah not sure how you knew where I was going with that but that's exactly what you need. Unfortunately the problem is that we have a very narrow window in which we can do this so you're going to need to obtain those a.s.a.p."
"How narrow of a window and how quick are we talking here?"
"Today." Azula applied matter-of-factly. This caused Jeff to spit out the water that he was drinking.
"To-today?! You want me to hack into one of the most secure servers, and obtain their confidential information within a matter of hours with no preparation?!"
"Look I know it's a difficult task but we really need you to do this for us. This is the only chance we got and we need to take it." I was almost pleading with him but I really didn't have any other choice.
"Oh no, I gotchu bro. It'll be tough but I just want you to know how much of a badass, clutch master I am for pulling this off." Okay why is he sounding like this? He must be from California or something.
"Ooookkkaayyy. Well hear are some earpieces. All three of us will be able to communicate with one another while we're in there. If something comes up or if you need to tell us something, just let us know." I handed the earpieces to both Jeff and Azula, showing them how they work.
"Coolio. So what's the next step boss?" Jeff was playing with the earpiece and I swore he was going to break it before we even left the diner.
Before I could even answer, Azula, who had been rather uninvolved for most of the conversation, chimed in.
"Austin AND I are going to go back to his friend's house where we will obtain the last remaining items necessary for our task. Once we have done that, we will establish contact with you and proceed to this building where the device is held. Meanwhile, your only task is to do what Austin told you earlier. Even someone like you should be able to pull it off." Azula just smirked and shot me a look that said 'try me'.
"Well now I know which one of you wears the pants in the relationship." Jeff laughed as he too shot me a cool look. "And I'll overlook that insult for now. Sounds like a good plan to me."
With that, we paid for the meal and left the diner to make way back to Viktor's place.
"Jeff certainly is strange." Azula said as she hopped into the car.
"Yeah he really is quite the character but he means well. And not many people are as good as he is when it comes to computers." I turned on the car and we left to Viktor's place.
*A short while later*
We pulled up to Viktor's place and this time we were met with welcoming arms from the beginning.
"Ah Austin it is so good to see you again. I take it you have made the necessary prerequisites for today's task?"
"You would be correct my friend. We talked to Jeff earlier this morning and he is on board and ready to help. We also got the right clothes that we need." I said as I opened my bag with a suit folded neatly inside. "All we need now are the badges and passcodes that will get us inside Langley."
"These were not easy obtaining you know." He said as he handed badges to Azula and me. "They took a great deal of time and resources to retrieve so this mission of yours better be a success."
"Oh trust me, no one wants this mission to be more of a success than we do." Azula said as she stuffed the badge into her bag.
"And you're going to need these passcodes to get into more restricted areas. Areas like where this device of yours is held." Viktor handed us pieces of paper that had a series of letters and numbers written on them. "And don't forget to pass along this message to fellow comrade." He handed me another piece of paper and I put it away inside my suit coat pocket.
"Thank you for all your help Viktor, this means a lot to me."
"Thank nothing of it Austin. Anything for a friend and his lovely lady." Viktor flashed a smile at Azula, and for her part blushed slightly before quickly keeping it down. "I wish the best of luck to you both on your ventures." Viktor shook both of our hands and we left his house and got back in our car.
"I do not understand how you two can be on opposing sides, yet he is still willing to help you out." Azula said as she started preparing her disguise to get in.
"Well there is an old saying we like to use here, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'. So while we may not be the best of friends, we both have a common enemy that we are looking to take down. Though I do not know how much assistance he will provide us in the future." I put on my suit and badge and looked in the mirror to make sure everything was in place. Not bad Austin, you clean up real nice.
"So what are we going to do now Austin?"
"Well now that we have our disguises all ready, the next step is to contact Jeff and make sure everything is good on his end." I plugged the earpiece in and tested it to make sure everything was working.
"Testing. Testing. The is Alpha Fox calling base command, do you hear me?"
"How come you are calling yourself Alpha Fox?" Azula asked while making a weird face.
"It's a safety precaution. In case someone hacks into our frequency they don't know our real names."
"That makes sense actually." Azula said as she plugged in her earpiece and made sure it was working.
"Hi Alpha Fox, this is Cobra Commander, I hear you loud and clear. Unfortunately we are experiencing a lot of traffic at the moment, would you mind holding?"
I swear to god I am going to slap this guy through the microphone. "Jeff quit messing around this is serious."
"I'm sorry who are you trying to reach. There's no one by the name of Jeff here."
"I'm sorry. Cobra Commander," I hissed, "are we good to go? And why did you pick Cobra Commander as your code name?"
"Yeah everything is good to go. It took me a little while to hack in, and I'm pretty sure whoever lives in the fake address I registered the IP address to is going to have a rough day, but I managed to obtain everything we need. Oh and because who wouldn't want to Cobra Commander? He's awesome! Also I want to scream 'get the Joes!' when you guys break in."
"Well when you are done acting like a child can we please proceed with this mission?" Azula shot in.
"God you take the fun out of everything. Yes mom we can proceed with the mission."
"I am not your mother." Azula jeered. "I am Black Widow."
"Yes let's proceed with the mission. Cobra Commander, hang tight until we get there. We'll establish contact with you when we're ready to break in." I turned on the car and set the GPS for Langley, Virginia.
"So Azula," I said as I shut off the microphone, "you ready for this?"
"I was born ready." The look on her face told me that nothing was going to stop her today.
"Good 'cause so am I." I turned on the radio as we pulled on to the freeway and an appropriate tune by Bon Jovi came on.
