Chapter 11 - Confrontation Part II

- Bella's Point Of View -

I stood, motionless, for a long time, trying to process what in the hell had just happened. When I didn't get anywhere with the 'how' I turned back to the girls. Their expressionless faces told me enough, and I moved to sit back down between them

"You alright, Ange?" I asked, nudging her with my shoulder.

"Huh?' She asked, turning to look at me. "Oh. Yea. Just kind of having trouble wrapping my mind around this."

"What about you, Kenda?" I asked turning towards her.

"I'll be fine." She said, as she ran her hands through her hair. "Do you think that she'll tale offence if I start calling her Lassie?"

Snorting, I returned my attention to Sam.

"Explain."

"It's kind of fucking obvious." Paul said, as he waved towards the woods. "She's a wolf."

"Really?" I said, smacking myself in the forehead. "How did I miss that?"

"Listen girls," Sam started, as he walked towards us. "There are a lot of things that you'll be hearing shortly. " He lifted his hand in a surrender, gesture. "We don't want to freak you out or anything, so if you have any questions, stop me and ask. I'll answer them if I can."

"Guess that means I'm missing Bones." I said, shaking my head. "Sam?"

"Yes, Bella?"

"Is she trainable? Can I give her a treat, when she gets back? Maybe teach her a few tricks?" I asked lifting my brow.

"Now is not the time for jokes. Leah is pretty upset, and I think it would be best if you tried to dial it down a notch."

"She's upset?" I asked, standing. "She's upset? You have no fucking idea, what upset looks like, Sam." I was getting more aggravated by the second. "You know what? Fuck this!" I said, as I marched past them, and stormed into the back of the house.

Angela and Kenda came in shortly behind me.

"Maybe you both should call your parents. Tell them that you're staying the night at my place."

They both pulled out their phones and made the calls to their parents. Marching through the living room, I threw myself onto the couch, as Angela sat in Dad's recliner, and Kenda took up the space sitting opposite me on the couch.

"Maybe we should let them explain." Angela said, quietly.

"I fully intend too." I said. "I just need to cool down a little bit.

"This is pretty cool though. You have to admit that Bella." Kenda said, smiling.

"Whatever." I groaned, as I leaned my head back against the couch and closed my eyes.

"Bella? Can I talk to you for a minute?"

Opening my eyes, and glancing towards the living room entry way; Seth was leaning against the frame, twisting his hands together, looking nervous.

Sighing, I stood up. "Fine. But, if you start shaking and shit and turn into a giant fucking mutt in here, you wont be allowed in my house anymore. Charlie and Renee will be pissed. You understand?" I asked, as I walked past him, towards the stairs.

He nodded, and followed me to my bedroom. When he entered, I closed the door, and turned, waiting for him to talk about whatever it is he needed too.

When he held up his hand and started walking around looking for something, I drew in a deep breath and asked, "What are you looking for?"

He didn't answer right away, as he flipped the switch to my stereo, and turned the volume up. "They would be able to hear us." He said, as he walked to my bed, and slowly lowered himself. "The music should drown us out a little bit."

"What was it that you needed, Seth?" I asked, growing impatient.

"I know who you are, Bella." He said, as he began to twist his hands together again.

I completely froze. For the first time, in two years, I felt nervous. Shaking it off, and standing a little straighter, I stuttered. "What do you mean?"

He shifted uncomfortably. "I know that you're Izzy Swan." He said, lifting his eyes to meet mine. "Everyone does."

The hair on the back of my neck stood on end, as I tried to process how this could end.

"And?" I whispered.

He dropped his hands from his lap, and grabbed the edge of the bed. "I just wanted to say that I was sorry."

"What?: I asked, taking a step back to lean against the dresser.

"I understand why you're doing what you're doing. And I understand why Kenda is too; We were mean. I was mean." He said looking back down in his lap. "To the both of you." Sighing, he ran his hand through his short hair. "We had no right to do the things that we did, Bella. I cant, and wont even try, to justify any of my actions." He looked back up, and gazed into my eyes. "If I could take it all back, or change what happened, I would. In a heartbeat."

"Seth…"

"Wait, let me finish." He said. He stood and moved to stand in front of the window. "The only thing that I can offer is an apology, and I hope, that one day, you can find it in yourself to forgive me. I, in no way, expect forgiveness, but I will do what I can, to prove to you that I'm not that kid anymore."

When he turned back to me, I saw it. I saw in his eyes that he was, truly, sorry.

Taking just a moment to absorb his apology, I lifted from my slouched position, and walked across the room to him. "You're forgiven, Seth." I said, as I wrapped him in a hug.

He let out a breath, and lifted his arms to hug me back. "Thank you, Bella. And I wont take offense if you tried to prank me." He said, laughing.

Laughing, I pushed back away from him. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Sure you don't." He said, as he nudged me slightly in the shoulder. "Come on, let's go back down there." He started walking towards the door. "Everyone's waiting in the living room."

"I'll be down in a second."

"Okay." He said, as he walked out the door, and closed it quietly behind himself.

Walking over to the stereo, I hit the power button, and then turned and threw myself onto the bed, groaning.

I was beginning to feel overwhelmed with all of today's events. The surprises around every corner, were throwing me off, and I felt as if I was off balance, and that at any moment, the floor would open up and swallow me whole.

Seth apologizing, was the icing on the cake.

He was never as harsh as the others were, and I never really held anything against him. When we were younger, it seemed as if he followed along with what they were doing to 'fit in'. To be a part of their clique. To belong. And, I can't fault him for that. Wasn't that what I was always trying to do?

Sighing, I turned and lifted myself off the bed. I still smelled like fries and coffee from my shift at the diner, so deciding to get, at least a little comfortable, I yanked open the drawers, and pulled out a pair of yoga pants and a tank top.

Changing quickly, and throwing my dirty clothes into the hamper in the corner, I glanced at myself in the mirror. "You can do this, Swan. Just one more obstacle."

Finally, deciding that I couldn't hold off any longer, I left my room, and walked back to the living room.

The spot that I had vacated earlier, when Seth asked to talk to me, was surprisingly still empty. The room was full of people sitting all over the place. Trying not to trip, I climbed over limbs, and sat ungracefully back on to the couch. Tucking my legs underneath myself, I waited for the drama to start.

Paul glanced at me from his position on the floor, and then stood and moved to sit directly in front of me, with his back braced against the edge of the couch. Scowling, I looked at Seth, and smiled.

"What the fuck happened up there?" Paul said, to Seth.

"It's none of your damn business, Paul." I said, between my clenched teeth.

"Seth?" Paul questioned, again.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I asked, shoving his shoulder.

"Nothing." He said, smirking. "Why?"

"You know, you really are incorrigible." I said, as he turned to look at me again, with a furrowed brow. "Shit. I'm sorry. That must have been too big of a word for you." I finished.

"You said sorry twice today, Bella. I think that you're losing your touch." He said, smirking.

"Will you two please shut the hell up, so we can get this over with?" Sam growled, effectively pulling our attention away from each other.

"Ugh, fine." I said. "Before this shit starts, does anyone need a drink?" I asked, remembering my manners. "Leah, I think that I have a bowl big enough.."

"Enough, Bella! Damn, can't you be quiet for a few minutes?" Sam, asked.

"Fine." I huffed, as I threw myself back against the cushions of the couch.

"Good girl!" Paul said, patting my leg.

"Paul!." Sam said, seething.

I was about to continue on with the argument, but one glance at Sam, stopped any words from spilling from my lips. In retribution though, I lifted my leg from underneath myself, and kicked it out, sharply. Effectively nailing Paul, right in the middle of his back. "Take that, fucker." I whispered.

He started chuckling, before righting himself.

"Okay, let's get this started." Sam said, sitting back against the chair that was previously occupied by my friend. "First of all, Bella, Kenda and Angela, as I'm sure you've realized, we turn into wolves." He lifted his hand and ran it through his thick short hair. "You have all heard of the legends of the Quileute, seeing as you are all a part of this tribe, correct?"

"Yes." I said, following Kenda and Angela's same response.

"Okay. Well, first off all, anything said in this room, needs to stay in this room." He continued, glancing at the three of us. "No one is to know about any of this."

We nodded our heads. In truth, even if I did want to tell anyone, which at this particular moment, I don't, then I would end up in the mental ward of the nearest hospital.

Angela gasped, and sat a little straighter in her seat. "If you exist," she said, quietly. "That means that vampires do too, right?"

Sam sighed. "Yes, they are real. We've been chasing one for a while now, but it always seems to evade us."

The weight of his words and the old legends, sat heavily on my shoulders. "Protectors" I whispered, quietly, as I shook my head back and forth to clear it.

"Pardon?" Sam said.

"Sorry, just thinking." I said, as I rubbed my eyebrow.

"About what?" Paul said, leaning his head back to watch me.

"This is all sick." I said, leaning farther back into my seat. "Fate, mother nature, spirits, or whatever it is that you guys see as the bigger power, is a sadist fucker."

"Why do you say that?" Embry asked, jumping into the conversation.

"Look around." I said, spreading my arms, wide.

"And?" Jake prompted.

I laughed. "If fate deemed you fuckers, as the protectors, then I'm better off walking out into the middle of a fucking field, and taking my chances with the damn leeches."

"That's hardly funny, but it could be arranged. You don't kn..."

"Leah!" Sam shouted, cutting her off.

"Yea, Leah. Hush." I said, smirking.

"I'm going to ignore that little comment, Bella. Yes we are the protectors of the tribe."

"They couldn't have picked a better fucking group?" Kenda asked, shaking her head.

"Why would you say that?" Embry asked.

"Because, you're all fucking evil." She said.

"We're evil?" Jared yelled. "What the fuck have you three been doing these last few weeks? You have the nerve to call us the evil ones?"

"Yes." I snarled.

"Care to elaborate?" Jarad said.

"Cut the bull shit." I said, seething. "I know that you know who I am." Everyone turned to Seth, and a few of them started to growl. "Oh, leave him the hell out of this. If anything, he's better than all of you, because he came to me. He told me!" I finished, pointing towards Seth.

"Well, what does that have to do with anything?" Sam asked.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I snorted. "Are you all really that stupid? You fuckers tormented me! You tortured Kenda! And you have the nerve to say that you don't know why we do the things that we do?"

"Bella..." Paul whispered, from below me.

Balling my fist, and closing my eyes, I tried to hold myself together. "You are not protectors." I whispered. "You are all the ones, that people need protection from."

"You didn't seem to have a problem forgiving Seth." Paul said.

My vision blurred, as bright red dots, flicked under my closed eyelids. Opening my eyes slowly, and standing up, I leaned towards Paul. Drawing my fist back, and letting it fly as hard as I could, i slammed it, right into his jaw.

The deafening sound of bone crunching, and snapping, was the only thing heard in the silent room. "Fuck!" I screamed, as I fell back against the couch.

"Shit, Bella! " Paul said, turning on his knees and moving closer to me.

"Stay the fuck away from me." I said, holding my uninjured hand up to block him.

"It's broken." Sam said, as he stood and walked over towards me.

"You think, jackass?" I yelled.

I stood up, and grabbed my sweater hanging over the back of the couch. On the edge of tears, I turned back to the group. "Seth is the only one... the only one, who came and apologized to me. The only one, with balls big enough to step down, and say sorry. None of you," I said, glancing at every one individually, "not a fucking one, other than that man," I said, pointing at Seth. "And I say that man, because out of all of you fuck-wits, he's the only that has grown up, apologized."

With an angry tear, and a quick swipe, I lowered my voice to a soft whisper. "You all fucking knew that I was Izzy. You knew." Stepping over sprawled legs, I walked towards the living room door. "You know what? You all make me fucking sick."

"Sorry, Bella." Jared said. I stopped, turned and glared at him. He cringed away, when he realized that now, probably wasn't an appropriate time to offer apologies.

Paul may have pissed me off, but Jared just hit the fucking bulls-eye.

"Priceless." I laughed evilly. "You know, if my hand was't already fucking broken, I'd pop you too." I said, walking towards him.

"I was just apologizing." He said, lifting his hands to surrender.

"Now?" I said snarling. "Now you apologize?" Laughing, manically, I leaned closer to him. "Of course you would, after I just mentioned that none of you have. That's kind of like spitting in my face, Jared. Is that what you're trying to do?"

"What? No!"

"You're only adding fuel, to an already blazing fire. You never would have apologized, if I hadn't just gone off on everyone." Standing back up, and glancing at the the pathetic display before me, I finished. "You know what? I'm done." Turning, I walked towards the door again.

"Where in the hell do you think that you're going?" Sam said, as he lowered himself back down into his chair.

"I have to go to the hospital" I growled at him. Lowering my voice, i turned to my friends. "Angela, Kenda, I'm sorry. I'll talk to you later."

The both nodded and smiled softly.

"Seth?"

"Yea, Bella?" Seth answered, standing up straighter.

"Will you please drive me?" I asked.

"I can drive you, Bella." Paul said, moving to stand.

"No! I asked Seth."

Seth glanced between Paul and me. "Yea. I'll take you." He said, moving to the front door.

"We'll finish this discussion when I get back." I said, following Seth out of the room. But a quick thought, had me stop, and retrace my steps back.

Pointing at Jared, I laughed.

"You're fucking next."
