Hello, people! This is the official last chapter of Lock and Key. It's been really nice writing this story (though we had some updating problems) The epilogue is in this chapter. Shout outs go to: finewithbeingateennot, ButtercupRulesPeetaSucks, StarLights145, MoonDust198, SnowQueen135, PhoenixFeathers246, Mrs. Eaton138, Mrs. Clace159 and all the guests. Here is chapter 12.
The wedding march was playing as I walked down the aisle with Rye. My mother smiled approvingly. I looked straight ahead at Peeta, who was smiling as well. I tried my best not to think about killing him. We reached the end of the altar. Rye handed me over, but not before giving me a pitiful look. It was time.
"Do you Peeta Mellark take Katniss Everdeen as your wife, through sickness and in health, through rich and poor, for the rest of your life?" the priest asked.
"I do," Peeta said, looking at me, straight in the eye.
"And do you Katniss Everdeen take Peeta Mellark as your husband through sickness and in health, through rich and poor for the rest of your life?" the priest asked.
"I…" I stopped, and looked down. Did I really want to do this? No, I couldn't think about that. But I loved Gale, more than anything.
"Miss Everdeen?" I looked up at the priest. Peeta was looking at me, as if to say 'What are you doing?' I turned to Peeta.
"I'm sorry, Peeta but I can't marry you," I said, giving him his ring. The entire crowd gasps. I don't wait for a response. I turn around and run down the aisle, gripping my skirts in my hands. I run out of the church and was about to hail a taxi when Finnick's car pulled up in front of me. Finnick opened the door.
"Get in," he said.
Finnick drove like the Devil was on his tail. He gave me a shirt and some jeans to change in, and though I was ashamed to change in his back seat (though it was curtained so at least I didn't flash any strangers), it seemed better than running out in a white wedding dress. I wiped my face free of makeup.
"We're almost there," he said, making a sharp turn, before parking in front of the airport.
"Passengers boarding for France, please proceed to Gate 7," a robotic female voice said. I sighed and took my suitcase and rolled it to the checkpoint.
"Ticket and passport please," the checkout girl says, giving me a wink. I ignored it and took my passport and ticket, all the while thinking of Katniss. I looked back once. A woman tapped me.
"Are you okay?" she asked. I nodded.
"I'm fine," I said, before I took my suitcase and rolled it, walking to my destiny.
It took me a lot of trouble to get to the waiting area, but finally I made it.
"Plane to France has departed," But I was too late. I felt tears fall on my face. Disappointment and heartbreak gripped me.
"Katniss?" I turned around numbly to see him. My Gale.
"Gale?" I said, not believing that he was still here. I ran and hugged him. He was shocked but he hugged me back.
"I thought you were going to get married to Peeta," he said. I looked at him.
"I couldn't," I said, "I love you," I said and kissed him deeply. Gale immediately kissed me back. And I forgot everything. I forgot that we were in a public airport surrounded by people. I only remembered that Gale was here, and he was kissing me. I broke away.
"There's something I have to tell you," I said. Gale looked at me.
"I'm pregnant with your child, Gale," I said.
Ten Years Later
It's Katniss Hawthorne here. A week after I ran away from the wedding was tense. My mother called me over and over again, calling me a whore. It got so bad that I had to change my number. I went with Gale to France and in six months, we returned to New York to wait till the child was born. It was a boy. He looked exactly like Gale. Though we had a little trouble with naming him, we finally came up with a name that we both liked; William Alexander Hawthorne. We returned to France (don't worry, William knows how to speak English), but that time Finnick came with us. We stayed there for two years, before we returned to New York and got married. We settled in the country house, renovating it to fit in a growing family. We eventually moved in to a house in New York itself. I gave birth to twins after that; a boy and a girl I named the boy Leo Perseus Hawthorne and the girl Arya Violet Hawthorne. Leo looked like Gale and Arya looked like me. We lived a happy life, and eventually Finnick got married too. It was to a girl named Annie. She was really nice and they had three kids; Finn Avan Odair, Kastella Vitani Odair and Tessa Odair. Finn and Kastella were the same age as Leo and Arya, and Tessa was the same age as William. All of us used to joke around that our kids would conveniently marry each other when they grow up.
As for Peeta, he got married to a girl named Meretrix, but he still screwed with other girls. Usually, people would feel sorry for Meretrix, but it's not like she didn't have other men as well. Madge got married to Thom, who is Gale's co-worker.
As for Gale and I, we had a wonderful marriage. We rarely ever argued and we spent a lot of time together. And looking at my life for the past ten years, I realized something. I realized that though Gale and I didn't end up together at first, love still found a way to bring us back to each other, and I realized that this is exactly where I wanted to be.
So, there you go. It's the end. I am also making a new story. It'll be posted by Monday. Bye, guys!
