Summary: For Lennie Small, normal was not a good thing. But he always forgot the reason why. AU
A/N: You've probably heard this a million times already, but yes, this was originally for school.
It was a normal day for Lennie Small. He went to school like always, was made fun of like always, failed like always.
But Lennie soon forgot about it anyway, when his world exploded into red velvet.
Like every normal day, Lennie's teacher George tried to help him.
"Lennie, jus' listen to me. I know if you actually tried on the last test ya woulda gotten a better score. Why din't you study like I told you to?"
"Yeah, you forgot. You always forget. Why can't ya jus' remember for once?"
Lennie didn't know what else to say. His eyes followed George's back as it got further away from him.
Today was normal.
Lennie wished it wasn't, but by then he had already forgotten the reason why.
Like every normal day, Lennie stared at the limp body of the girl in the empty hallway.
Like every normal day, Lennie ran away in fright.
"I done a bad thing. I done another bad thing."
Like every normal day, despite the fact that he knew what Lennie had done, George came to Lennie with his soft velvet voice and the promise on his tongue.
"Ever'body gonna be nice to you. Ain't gonna be no more trouble. Nobody gonna hurt nobody nor steal from 'em."
"I thought you was mad at me, George."
"No, Lennie. I ain't mad. I never been mad, an' I ain't now. That's a thing I want ya to know."
"Okay. Then le's do it."
"Sure, right now. I gotta. We gotta."
The world exploded into red, and Lennie fell into a world that wrapped him in velvet.
"See you tomorrow, Lennie."
Like every normal day, Lennie forgot what came after that.
And what came before.
The school principal stood halfway up the steps leading to the school entrance, staring up at the teacher who sat at the top. The said teacher fiddled with the safety clip on the gun in his hand.
"Right in the back of the head. Like always, so he won't feel the pain." George's voice was a whisper, soft like velvet.
"You hadda, George."
"I already know that. Oh. And give this back to Carlson, will ya? Thanks." Getting up, George made his way past Slim, curtly handing him the gun as he passed. At the bottom, he closed his eyes.
It was like every normal day.
A bit of a crackfic if you ask me, but whatever.
