Harriet's Happenings

Summary: How Albert and Laura initially react to the newspaper before bringing it to Pa.

"I caught another one" Albert said, reeling in his line. Laura grinned.

"Won't Ma be pleased?" She said. "We can have fish for supper tonight" Albert nodded. He was about to cast his line again when he saw Nellie and Willie walking towards them.

"Looks like trouble" He said. Nellie walked up to Albert.

"Hello Albert" She said. Albert sighed.

"What do you want?" He asked.

"Oh, I just wanted to bring you a paper. Mother said you could have it for free" She handed him the newspaper.

"Thanks" Albert said, placing it next to him.

"Aren't you going to read it?" Willie asked. Laura knew they wouldn't leave until it was read, so she grabbed the paper and glanced through it. What she read made her boil with anger. She punched Nellie in the face, knocking her backwards.

"You tell your mother that if she prints anything else about my brother my Pa will tear her to shreds!" Laura said. Nellie and Willie took off, but Laura was still seething. Albert stood up and gently took the paper from Laura. He looked at the story and shook his head.

"We have to tell P..Mr. Ingalls" He said. Laura looked at him and grabbed his hand.

"You're my brother Albert. The town knows better than to believe that rubbish. Pa wants to be your Pa too and Mrs. Olsen is just going to have to live with it. We know that Pa wouldn't do anything to hurt you or Ma" Albert nodded.

"I don't much feel like fishing anymore" He said.

"Me neither" Laura said. "Let's just go home"
