Prompt #375 from Tamingthemuse- Blessing

Note: From now on most of my Tamingthemuse stories will be named as the challenge.

Xander sat on his bed, the gilded cage settled on his dresser. He stared at the bird who in turn stared back at him. "I'm going to call you Sammie. Hi, Sammie," Xander said with an excited smile.

"Fuck!" Sammie replied.

Xander's mouth fell open. "What?"

"Fuck!" Sammie repeated again.

Groaning Xander realized that Sammie was picking up on Spike. "Great. Look, Sammie I know us having Spike in our lives is a blessing but I don't think you need to be talking like him."

"Fuck!" Sammie said.

Xander fell back on his bed. It looked like it would take time to get Sammie to stop swearing. "It's okay; we'll get it sorted out."

They were both quiet until Sammie broke the silence. "Spike."

Xander had to smile. Spike always made him smile. Soon the smile vanished though. Xander didn't like that Spike had dismissed him. Was Spike hiding something from him or maybe he thought Xander wouldn't understand what was going on. Xander knew in reality that Spike was just protecting him but Xander had lived through hell for years he could take whatever was going on. Maybe Spike didn't trust him? That stabbed Xander in the heart.

A few minutes later there was a knock on the door before Spike's head popped in. "What are you doing, pet?" he asked as he walked in and sat down beside Xander.

"Not much. Trying to teach Sammie not to swear," Xander replied.

Spike didn't need to be a genius to figure out Xander was unhappy, and Spike knew it was because of him. He laid down and wrapped an arm around Xander. "I'm sorry if I upset you."

Xander pressed his face into Spike's chest.

"I just want to protect you; sometimes I forget that you aren't your average human. That you survived so much that you can handle situations," Spike said. "I'm a bloody git for trying to put you in a bubble."

Xander didn't reply.

Spike frowned. "Is there something else, Xan?"

"It's stupid," Xander mumbled.

Forcing Xander to look at Spike he said, "Nothing you say will ever be stupid. Tell me," he ordered softly.

"You told me to go back to my room." Xander saw that Spike wasn't getting it. "I just assumed that since we were doing…stuff that things would be different."

"You want us to share a room?" Spike asked.

Xander just shrugged trying to make it seem like it wasn't a big deal to him.

"I would love to not just share a room with you but a bed as well," Spike declared. "I just didn't want to push you too hard too fast."

"Really?" Xander asked with a shy smile.

Spike kissed him before nuzzling his throat. "Yes."

Xander tilted his head and Spike swiped his tongue. "Tell me about the slayers?"

"I already told you," Spike said tensing up.

"I don't believe you though," Xander whispered. "I mean I believe you've killed two but if they are so easy to kill why haven't you killed more?"

Spike's pet was a smart one. "Alright they aren't the easiest to kill. Minions are much easier to kill. Also I don't go looking for them. If I'm in the same place as them then I go after them. As you can see it doesn't happen often."

"I don't want anything to happen to you," Xander confessed. "C-can't we leave?"

"Oh, luv. We can't. I've never run from a fight before and this is exactly what she wants," Spike explained. "In the end they all want this. They know that they will die and some even welcome it."

Xander processed what he was told. "Will the next one come after you?"

"Nah, they'll be too busy training. Plus they never want to hear about how the last one died," Spike explained.

"Will you take Thomas with you?" Xander asked.

Spike shook his head. "I've already talked to Thomas. He is going to stay here with you just in case..."

"You don't come back," Xander finished for him.

Spike climbed on top of Xander. "Nothing is going to happen to me. I killed that prick that took you, didn't I?"

Xander nodded.

"Then have a little faith in me." Spike smiled and kissed Xander again. He turned and looked at Sammie. "Right, Sammie?"

"Bloody git!" Sammie replied.
