"Food's here!" T-Dog called through the gate as Carol opened it up.

"What you got?" Carl asked.

"Canned beef, canned corn, canned cans." T-Dog replied as he and Rick walked through. "There's a lot more where this came from."

"Any change?" Rick asked Glenn.

"Bleeding is under control, and no fever." Lori replied. "But his breath is labored and his pulse is way down."

"And he hasn't opened his eyes yet." Parker walked over to the doorway and looked between the two. "It's great y'all found the cafeteria, but why couldn't those guys have been holed up in the infirmary."

"We'll try to find that soon." Rick promised.

"Sooner than later if you can. The sooner I can get some sterile bandages on him, the better." He sighed before looking over his shoulder at Hershel. "If you had gotten him back any later…" he paused and then shook his head. "You were real lucky."

"Well, that remains to be seen." Rick told him lowly before handing the bags of corn to T-Dog who was piling up the food. "What are the odds?" he asked Parker softly.

"I have no way of knowing right now." He looked at Hershel. "I wish I could tell you something different, but- there's really no way of knowing."

"Take my cuffs," Rick took his cuffs from his belt and handed them to Glenn. "Put them on him. I'm not taking any chances." He looked around the cell block for a moment before looking at the guard's office. "Did Lizzie come back through here?"

"Yeah, she went outside for a breather." Abbie replied from where she was cutting towels to make more bandages.

"She go alone?" he asked.

"I think Sophia went with her." Sven replied.

"She did." Hunter confirmed.

"Well, why doesn't someone go check on them, make sure she's okay?" Rick asked.

"I'll go check on them when I finish this." Abbie told Rick who nodded.

"Hey, d'y'all need me in there?" Cal asked standing up.

"I'd rather have you here." Rick told him. "Keep an eye on things."

"No problem." He nodded before sitting back down.

"Alright, we'll be back with more food when we finish clearing out the other cell block." Rick told everyone before leaving.

"Oh hey Abbie, before you go check on them, will you help me with something?" Beth called.

"Sure!" Abbie chirped as she walked to where Beth was waiting.

"You see Liz out there?" Daryl asked when Rick and T-Dog came back.

"She was outside for a breather. Her and Sophia, I sent Abbie to go check on them." Rick told him.

"Wonder why she left so quiet." T-Dog mused.

"Cuz'a' him." The inmate who had walked Lizzie back to the cell block spoke up, nodding to Eric.

"Me?" Eric asked with a small laugh. "Wha'd I do?"

"Said you was her mom's boyfriend… Said you tried to kill her brother… Use'ta…" he looked down in disgust.

"Wha'd you say your name was?" Rick asked.

"Eric Randolph." He replied. Rick looked over at Daryl as realization crossed his face. Within an instant the crossbow was on the ground and Daryl had tackled Eric.

"You goddamn sonuvabitch!" he shouted as he swung his fist into Eric's face.

"Daryl!"

"Holy shit!" one of the inmates jumped away from the two as Rick and T-Dog tried to get control of their friend.

"Get him off- Get HIM OFF!" Eric bellowed as he tried to get Daryl off of him. Daryl delivered a swift punch to Eric's throat making him choke before punching him across the face.

"Daryl-" Rick grabbed Daryl's arm, nearly getting punched in the process. He and T-Dog managed to drag Daryl off of him, leaving Eric on the ground, coughing, blood pouring from his nose, mouth and a cut along his hairline.

"Get the fuck offa me!" Daryl shouted, trying to pull off of Rick and T-Dog.

"Daryl, what the hell was that?" Rick pulled him to the side.

"Don't ask me to help him Rick. It ain't gonna happen. Far as I'm concerned, he should be thrown to the walkers."

"Who is he?" Rick frowned softly.

"He's someone who done Liz wrong."

"Are you going to explain how?" Rick frowned.

"Guy said he tried to kill Cal…" T-Dog offered.

"That ain't it." Daryl shook his head, looking over at Eric darkly.

"Well what then?" Rick asked.

"It's Liz's place ta tell ya." He replied. "But know this. I ain't helpin' him in any way. I ain't lettin' him near me or mine, and if y'all were smart, you'd do the same… What he did…" he shook his head. "There ain't no excuse." He looked at Rick.

"You can sit this one out." Rick told him softly.

"You're still helpin' them?!"

"That was the deal." Rick told him sharply. "Half the food for help clearing out a cell block. In case you haven't noticed, we need that food."

"Don't be lookin' to me ta help." Daryl shook his head. "I'll send Sven or Evan or someone, but I ain't goin' nowhere near that sack of shit, 'less it's ta kill him."

"Understood." Rick nodded while T-Dog picked up the crossbow. He held it out to Daryl who took it slowly, and then looked at Eric. Their eyes met, Eric's was red from popped blood vessels from being punched in the eye. Daryl stared at the older man for a long, hard moment before spitting on the floor and walking out of the cafeteria, carrying his crossbow at his side.

"Omph-" Merle stumbled back as I threw my arms around him. "God damn girl, ya really missed ole' Merle didn'tcha?" he asked as I hugged him tightly. "I'd give you a hug, but uh, seems like there's somethin' 'tween us." He chuckled as he put his hand on my stomach. "You and Walsh finally get together?" he asked with a smirk making me hit his shoulder.

"It's Daryl's." Sophia spoke up making Merle look at me sharply.

"So," he leaned in the doorway with a smirk. "You and Darlyina finally got together huh?" he asked.

"Sophia, go take a shower." I told her. "They'll bring up some clothes for you-"

"No, let's move the pow wow to your room." Merle closed the door behind him, before steering the two of us into the room next door. Sophia went to the bathroom and I could hear the water turn on as I walked to an armchair in the room. Merle stood by my side, holding my arm as I sank into the chair with a sigh. "How'd you get here Lizzie?"

"I could ask you the same thing." I sighed as I looked at him. "Daryl, he'll be so happy you're okay."

"How is he?" he asked.

"He's… As well as can be expected. We went back for you…" I looked at him as he sat on the ottoman in front of me. "Me, Dare, Rick, T-Dog and Glenn, we went back for you, but… You were already gone."

"My idiot brother let you go to Atlanta?" he asked and I smirked.

"Not like I gave him much of a choice." I replied making the corners of his mouth curl up into a small smile.

"Why are you here?" he asked.

"We found a new place to stay, and there were other survivors. One of the survivors was someone from my past…" I paused. "You know why Cal went to prison." Merle nodded. "Yeah, well, he was the reason why."

"Yer daddy?"

"My mom's boyfriend. Actually, technically, Cal, as I've found out, is my father." I nodded and he chuckled.

"Shit girl, I know." He replied. I was about to answer when there was a knock on the door. Merle got up and answered it, he spoke lowly to the person on the other side for a moment before returning with a large basket, in it was a small bundle of clothes, some food and some bottles of water. "Drink this." Merle handed me a bottle of water after putting the basket down.

"Thank you." I took it from him and twisted the cap off before taking a large drink. "I flipped out when I saw him; I took off, which, I know, it wasn't my best move, but…" I shrugged. "I was… Upset."

"So y'all drove all the way here?" he asked and I shook my head.

"No, we were driving to town, when some kid runs out of nowhere and made me swerve, I hit a tree. Turns out he thought we were the backup he was expecting." I explained. "When I woke up, we were here. The governor, he says-"

"Wait, you met him?" he asked quickly and I nodded.

"Well, yeah." I replied.

"Wha'd you tell him?" he asked quickly as he moved in front of me.

"What?" I asked with a small frown.

"What did you tell him?" Merle grabbed my shoulder tightly.

"Nothing- My name- Merle-" I frowned looking at him. He let go of my shoulder and ran his hand over his face.

"You give him your name or Daryl's?" he asked.

"What?"

"Why did he put you here, send you to this room in this building?" he turned and looked at me. "What name did you give him?"

"Dixon." I answered softly and he nodded.

"He put you here for a reason." He muttered- more to himself than to me.

"Merle, I don't understand." I stood up.

"Course you don't. You don't know 'em." He replied sharply.

"Who is he?" I asked.

"He's…" he sighed and looked back at me. "He's-"

"Lizzie?" Sophia called through the door. "Did they bring us any clothes or should I just wear mine?"

"Yeah- One second." I called back before getting the clothes they had sent over for Sophia. I handed them to her through a crack in the door.

"Does he know where y'all're holding up?" Merle asked and I turned back to him.

"No." I replied. "He didn't ask."

"Well he will. He'll offer to go get everyone, bring 'em back here too." He nodded.

"And let me guess- That would be bad." I smiled.

"Get out of here Liz." He walked over to me and laid his hand on my shoulder. "Jus' get the fuck out. First chance you get, you and the little blondie," he nodded to the bathroom door. "Get out and don't look back."

"What about you?" I touched his arm, and he pulled away.

"I'm already in." he replied.

"But you don't have to be." I insisted, before the door to the bathroom opened. Sophia walked out and I sighed as she looked in the basket of food they had given us. I looked at Merle who shook his head.

"Go take a shower." He told me lowly. "Y'all got a long day 'head of you." He walked out of the room and Sophia looked at me.

"Daryl will be happy Merle's okay." She smiled and I nodded.

"He sure will sweetie." I smiled before going into the bathroom. After quite possibly the greatest shower of my life I dried off and put on the clothes that had been lent to us. I washed the clothes we had been wearing as best as I could in the bathtub and hung them over the sides of the bathtub and the sink to dry them off while we slept.

As I started to stand up, I groaned feeling the baby kicking sharply. I put my hand over where the baby was kicking and shut my eyes as I thought about what Merle had alluded to before. I stood up and walked to his room, after checking that Sophia was really sleeping and not just faking it like I knew she did sometimes. I knocked on his door and after a minute he opened it.

"There's no way he's letting us leave tomorrow is there?" I asked and he sighed before pushing the door open, letting me pass by him, into his room.
