Author's Note: This idea popped up in my head and I had to write it. One-shot.
Daniel was a nervous wreck. Tonight would be the night he would propose to Regina.
Sure, they were engaged in the Enchanted Forest but that engagement was done under extreme circumstances.
Nothing could stand in their way now. There was no Cora, no Leopold, nothing was holding them back from being together.
The only thing he wished he could do was ask Regina's father for her hand in marriage. Call him old-fashioned but he really did like the man and wanted his blessing.
Instead, he asked permission from the other Henry in Regina's life. Soon, Henry would be his stepson. Fortunately for him, Henry gave his blessing.
Daniel looked at his watch. It was 6:30 pm and he made reservations at 7 pm at a nice restaurant in Storybrooke. Thankfully, Regina created some high-end restaurants. He didn't want to go to Granny's diner.
Daniel was about to call up to Regina when she walked down the stairs.
"You look gorgeous, Regina," said Daniel.
"Why, thank you. You look great," Regina replied.
They grabbed their coats and headed out to the car. "Where are we going?" asked Regina.
"It's a surprise. You'll love it. Trust me."
They arrived at the restaurant and waited for their table.
Daniel tried to keep himself calm but he couldn't help but feel that she may reject his proposal.
Some time passed and Daniel decided it was now or never.
"Regina," he said softly.
She looked at him and noticed he was a little nervous. "Honey, is something wrong?"
"No. I, um, have a lot on my mind," he said.
"Oh. Wanna talk about it?"
"Regina, I think you're the most beautiful woman in the world."
Regina raised an eyebrow. "That wasn't the answer I was expecting. What's gotten into him?"
Daniel continued, "I'm grateful that you are in my life and I couldn't ask for a better partner. I want you to know how happy you make me."
Regina interrupted, "I feel the same way."
"That's why I'm going to do this," he said.
"Do what?" Regina thought.
Daniel pulled out the ring box and knelt in front of Regina.
People were starting to stare out the couple. Regina was stunned to say the least.
"Regina, my love, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" he asked.
Regina didn't respond at first. They were already engaged and the ring she had from the Enchanted Forest was enough. She looked at the ring. It was a gorgeous diamond, which looked like it cost a fortune.
Daniel started to get worried. "Regina?"
Regina looked back at him. "Oh, I'm sorry. Of course, I'll marry you!"
Daniel breathed a sigh of relief. He got up and Regina jumped in his arms. "You just made me the happiest woman on earth," she said in his ear.
They sat back down. "Daniel, we're already engaged. You didn't need to do this. I love the ring you gave me all those years ago."
"I wanted to do it properly. There's no one standing in our way. I even asked Henry for permission to marry you."
Regina laughed. "You did? I assume Henry gave you his blessing."
Daniel nodded yes. "Believe me, trying to ask an eleven year old for his mother's hand is a lot harder than you think."
Regina smiled. "I love you, Daniel."
"I love you too. Now, we're going to spend the rest of our lives together."
