Ame: Part VII

"Fuck…" Naruto moaned as he sat on the edge of his bed, it was empty of course. What else do you expect from an Uchiha, "I don't even remember him leaving."

The blonde ran his hand through his hair, and then leaned down to grab his trousers that sat on the floor where he discarded them the previous night. Naruto sighed as he stepped into them and padded over to the small kitchenette on the opposite side of the large room. Opening the fridge and found nothing to eat, headed over to the large armoire. Pulling out a fresh pair of black, shin length cargo pants, a fish net under shirt and a tight black tee, he dressed himself. Glancing over at the clock on the small table next to his bed, he had a little over an hour before the group was suppose to meet. Naruto started debating on what to do for an hour.

A soft knock on the door pulled the blonde from his thoughts.

Naruto whipped his head around to face the door when a soft but ridged voice came through, "Naruto?"

The blonde instantly recognized the voice.

Naruto called back, "Come on in."

And with that the raven slowly opened the door, stepped in and clicked the door closed behind him. Itachi wore his normal attire without the Akatsuki cloak. Naruto made his way to the bed and sat on the edge.

"I'm sorry," Itachi spoke, "Pein called on me, and I had to leave momentarily."

"It's alright," Naruto shrugged.

"No," Itachi shook his head, "I wasn't intending to leave after last night Naruto. I don't want you to think that's the kind of man I am."

"I… I don't think that…" Naruto mumbled surprised at Itachi's respond.

"It's written all over you face, Naruto," Itachi said stepping closer to the bed, "I believe that's what you were thinking."

Naruto sighed then looked away, "You're right, that's what I thinking."

"Naruto, I know you have an estranged relationship with the Nara," Itachi spoke, "But if you decide the separation is too much to bear, there's always the option of allowing me to be by your side."

"Itachi… I…" Naruto started as he quickly stood up and placed his hand on his own chest, "I've loved Shikamaru since the Chunin exams but I fear the separation is pulling us apart."

Itachi walked up to the blond, who finally after several years was only slightly shorter than the raven, and placed a hand around the side of his jaw. Itachi starred into Naruto's crystal clear blue eyes, with his own deep black. He saw so much pain hidden in those blue eyes, almost mirroring his own hidden pain. He couldn't help but feel the need to erase all that pain. He pulled Naruto closer and laid his forehead on Naruto's and continued starring into those blue orbs.

"Then let me fill the void that separation is causing," Itachi whispered, "Let me erase the pain that haunts in your eyes."

Naruto closed his eyes for a brief moment almost debating on his decision, "I don't know, Itachi…"

Naruto then felt a pair of soft lips press against his own, then pull back. He opened his eyes to find Itachi still starring at him intently, and for the first time, he could see the emotion behind those dark black eyes. For the first time, he saw the pain in Itachi's eyes. Itachi's past was as dark and full of hatred as his was. He knew Itachi understood.

But how would this hurt Shikamaru? What if he ever found out? In the end, would he be able to choose between them? What would Naruto end up deciding? Would it be best if he never put himself in this situation? Kind of hard not to be in the situation after what has already happened. Itachi understood the pain, something Shikamaru never would. But in the end, Itachi was a missing-nin, and if everything worked out, he would have to leave the raven behind. Would he be able to do it? Would he be able to leave Itachi behind and be with Shikamaru faithfully?

Naruto shook his head. He didn't know what to do.

"Naruto, I know what you're planning," Itachi whispered as he pulled back.

"What?" Naruto whipped his head up as he was previously starring at the floor.

"It's alright," Itachi continued, "I've never told you about my past. I will show you, then maybe you will understand."

"Understand?" Naruto questioned.

Itachi nodded then activated his sharingan, "Trust me."

Naruto nodded as he was sucked into the genjutsu, where he found himself the audience of Itachi's memories, reliving the day when Itachi received the orders for the Uchiha Massacre.

I received the orders from Danzo, the ANBU leader at the time, with agreement from the Hokage's advisors. Since the orders came from the top, I had two decisions. One, I could refuse the orders and become a missing-nin and leave the village to a civil war. Or two, I could fulfill my orders and become a missing-nin, and protect Sasuke. I reluctantly chose the later. Sometime afterwards, I pleaded to the Hokage for Sasuke's survival, for which he agreed.

That night, I fulfilled my orders, and destroyed the Uchiha and left the village, but I had a small conversation with Sasuke. I wanted to be justified for my crimes, by another Uchiha. Sasuke will be the one to kill me, when he is strong enough.

Naruto opened his eyes to find Itachi deactivating his sharingan.

"Konoha ordered the Uchiha Massacre?" Naruto asked.

"Yes," Itachi nodded.

"The Uchiha were planning a coup d'état," Itachi replied simply, "It would throw Konoha into a civil war, making it vulnerable to the other villages. This would damage the village more than imaginable."

"So they got rid of the threat," Naruto replied.

"Wait, what did you mean you know what I am planning?" Naruto narrowed his eyes.

"You know exactly what I mean, Naruto," Itachi replied, "Although the they used me, my loyalty to the village remains."

"I see," Naruto said as he felt a sensation in his stomach, "As does mine. But Itachi, you won't be able to go back."

"I assume you won't either," Itachi replied.

"I try not to think about that," Naruto rolled his eyes.

"I see," Itachi nodded.

"Itachi, you say you understand, but when they day comes and if everything works out, and I go back to the village, what will you do?" Naruto asked.

"Like I told you, Sasuke will kill me when the time comes, and until that day I want to be by your side," Itachi explained.

"And what if…" Naruto started until he was cut off.

"Naruto, we can't live our lives with the 'what ifs'," Itachi said, "Please allow me to be by your side. I want to fill the void the Nara is leaving, and we will make those decisions when they come."

And with this Naruto suddenly felt a weight lifted off his shoulders, like Itachi's words erased his worry. Maybe being with the Uchiha would help him.

Naruto smiled and answered Itachi with a swift motion, grabbing his face and pressing their lips together. Itachi got his answer; he had his blonde.

For the time being.

"Tsunade-sama?" Shikamaru murmured as he stepped through the door of the Hokage's office, "You summoned us?"

"Shikamaru, Kakashi, Jiraiya," Tsunade said as she lifted her head from her paperwork, "Yes I did."

Kakashi, Jiraiya and Shikamaru lined up in front of the Hokage as she prepared to speak. Shizune with TonTon stood behind the blonde, both with serious looks.

"I have received a notice from the Raikage, the land of iron is holding a five Kage Summit," Tsuande said.

"Five Kage Summit?" Shikamaru asked.

"Yes, it's a meeting where the Kage from the Five Great Shinobi Countries meet to discuss matters affecting their respective countries and the world at large. The meeting can be convened by any of the Kage, and a location selected for where they will convene. Each Kage are allowed up to two bodyguards to accompany them at this meeting, but this meeting we are allowed three due to the impending war," Tsunade explained.

"A Kage Summit hasn't been held in generations, why now?" Kakashi asked.

"The impending war," Tsunade replied simply.

"Impending war?" Shikamaru asked.

"Nara, we are not the only village dealing with the Akatsuki," Tsunade explained, "The Raikage called this meeting after the unsuccessful attempt to stop the Akatsuki from taking the eight tails."

Shikamaru and Kakashi stiffened at the reference to their failed mission. Jiraiya only shook his head. From what he knew there was only one tailed beast left. The seven-tails, now located in an undisclosed location somewhere in Iwa.

"So, I will leave in 3 days to head for the Kage Summit," Tsunade continued, "You three will attend the summit with me as my body guards."

"Yes ma'am," Kakashi and Shikamaru echoed each other.

"Jiraiya," Tsunade called, "I am going to need to you to explain the information you have received on the Akatsuki, particularly on their leader, Pein."

"Of course," Jiraiya nodded.

"You are dismissed," Tsunade waved the three out of her office.

The Gedo Mazo, also known as the empty vessel of the ten-tails, although the members of the Akatsuki were unknown to this fact. Pein informed the member's only basic information needed to seal the tailed beasts. Naruto, being Pein's disciple, knew almost everything there was to know about the vessel, including how to shut it down. Naruto, followed by Itachi shuffled their way into the large cave-like room. The construction that was done to repair the damages Sakura made was complete and the room looked normal again. Naruto made his way to the pinky on the left hand of the statue and settled into his normal spot, while Itachi did the same for his. Several minutes later, the members of the Akatsuki had gathered whether in person or by hologram.

"We have a problem," the familiar voice of their leader boomed.

"Problem?" Naruto was only one confident enough to reply.

"Yes, the eight tail jinchuuriki Kisame and Itachi collected was a fake. It was only a part of a tail changed to reflect the identity of the jinchuuriki," Pein explained.

"So one of us needs to collect the real one?" Naruto asked again.

"No, the five Kages are assembling in the Land of Iron. Naruto your job is to infiltrate and collect data. I have a notion they are going be joining forces with each other," Pein continued.

"I see. When will the meeting be held?" Naruto asked.

"The meeting will begin in two days," Pein replied, "One more thing, the seven tails location is still hidden, and the information may be given at the summit as well as the eight tails. We will reconvene after the summit. And Naruto?"

"Hai, Pein-sama?"

"You are to go alone and at the conclusion of the summit, make your presences known and declare war on the five nations," Pein said.

"War?" several voices echoed.

"Yes, to complete our goal, the start of the 4th shinobi must commence," Pein explained.

"Hai, Pein-sama," Naruto bowed.

"You are all dismissed," Pein released them.

"Are you ready, ya ole pervert?" Tsunade yelled.

"Yea, yea," Jiraiya waved to the blonde Hokage as he fumbled down the stairs leading around the Hokage tower.

Tsunade, Shikamaru and Kakashi stood at the base of the tower waiting for the last member of their convoy to come down the stairs. For the first time in a long time, Jiraiya wore a traditional Jonin outfit; similar to the uniform Kakashi and Shikamaru wore.

"Why do I have to wear this again?" Jiriaya wined.

"Because we are meeting with the other Kages and it would look bad if one of my shinobi wasn't in uniform," Tsunade mocked.

"That's so not it," Jiraiya rolled his eyes, "You just wanted to force me to wear this didn't you?"

Tsunade just shrugged and waved for the three to follow her to the gates, then making their way to the land of iron from there.

Across the globe, Gaara the Kazekage gathered with his party of three that included Kankuro, Temari, and Matsuri; his young protégé.

The fifth Mizukage was doing the same with her convoy. The third Mizukage had taken over after the fourth was killed. The old man handed her his hat, passing on the responsibilities as a Kage. Her convoy, which included Ao, Chujuro and Rinko Ameyuri followed her out.

Similar things were happening in Kumo, as the Raikage prepared for his trip with Darui, C and Samui.

The last Kage to leave his respective village was the Tsuchikage, who was unwillingly being lifted up to sit on the pack on the back of him convoy members. The old man and convoy consisting of Kurotsuchi, Akatsuchi and Kitsuchi headed out for the land of iron.

"A WAR!" Naruto screamed as he paced back and forth in the almost completely dark room, "A FUCKING WAR! For Kami's sake! A FUCKING WAR!"

"Naruto, calm down," a soft, yet rugged voiced called from the darkness.

"How the hell am I suppose to calm down! I have to declare war on the five great nations!" Naruto continued to rant.

"Naruto, stop and think about this rationally," the voice came again.

Naruto stopped facing away from where the voice was coming from. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath only to release it once again as a sigh, "Alright."

"Now, Naruto. You know the war is nothing but a front for Pein. A mere distraction for nations," the voice came once more as the figure stepped out into the light.

"I know, but there are more chances for… them to die," Naruto replied shaking his head still facing away.

"When you declare war on the five great nations, what do you believe will be their first reaction?"

"Knowing both Tsunade and Gaara, two of the Kages, they would try to join forces with the other nations. However, both the Raikage and Tsuchikage are old war veterans, well so is Tsunade but she's not as old of a hag like the other two. Anyways, those two would likely try to stand against the Akatsuki on their own, having too much confidence in their own forces. I have no idea about the new Mizukage, Mei. She's young so she might be on the Hokage and Kazekage's side and join forces. In the end if everything worked towards our advantage, they would create an alliance with one another. Separately, if not all five together," Naruto thought threw the possible out comes.

"Alright, and what would happen if they didn't?"

"Suna and Konoha will form an alliance and possibly with Kiri," Naruto continued to think out loud.

"Konoha and Suna no longer have Jinchuurikis so, why would they get involved in the war?"

"I don't know," Naruto shook his head.

"Exactly, they may not. So calm down and do what you were ordered to! It will turn out fine."

"Your right."

"So what is your plan?"

"You'll see," Naruto turned around to face the dark figure, with a malevolent expression on his face.

Naruto turned to leave. He need to head to land of iron if he was to infiltrate the summit.
