AN: I'm updating a lot of my stories. Hopefully this means my writer's block is finally over.
It was a slow day at the garage. That made Natasha's day much easier. A few programs had asked where the emblem on her suit came from after picking up their fixed batons. Natasha simply shrugged them off by saying she had work to finish.
At one point one of Tesler's commanders had shown up. It was the same commander that Beck and Steve had fought while rescuing Tony. Thankfully she didn't spend too much time at the garage. She just dropped off a few batons and left without another word.
Not much of a social butterfly, Natasha thought after watching the program glare at a few of the employees. But under the mask Natasha could tell that the program would be easy to get along. If she would let her true colors shine.
In the end Natasha was thankful to leave her shift to other programs. Able was watching them like a hawk. She had a feeling he knew more than he was letting on, but she let it go for now. Sooner or later he would find out that they were not what they seemed.
Now she was with the others as they reached the safehouse. Beck was already there, watching with interest as Tony managed to fix a few things on Tron's screen.
"You're late." Natasha reacted on instinct and nearly swung a fist at the speaker. Tron didn't even flinch when she stopped just in time.
"Steve got held up," Clint muttered after glaring at the super soldier. Steve returned the glare before folding his arms.
"I've managed to find a way into SHIELD's system," Tony announced. He seemed oblivious to the tension building around them. Natasha smirked when she saw the symbol that belonged to SHIELD. "Now let's see if we can catch up with Fury."
"Who exactly is Fury?" Beck's question caught Natasha off guard.
"His name is actually Nick Fury," Natasha explained when Tron raised an eyebrow. "He's the director of SHIELD, the organization we work for."
Beck looked more confused than ever, and Natasha suspected he had more questions to ask. But to her relief, an image of the hellicarrier appeared on the large screen, giving her a brief distraction.
"Do you have any idea what time it is?" Fury's voice came out in a snarl.
Natasha rolled her eyes as both Tron and Beck flinched this time. Fury looked at Tony in disbelief when he realized who was contacting him.
"I'm glad to see you too," Tony scoffed when Fury pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.
"Where the hell are you? Can't pick you up on the radar," Fury grumbled.
"You wouldn't believe us if we told you," Clint told him. Fury's single eye widened when he realized that the others were with Tony.
"So I take it your mission was successful." He leaned back as Tony grinned sheepishly.
"Yeah... it might be a while 'till we can get back," Tony explained. "Seems like the Portal that sent us here can only be open from the outside, or so our friend told us."
He glanced at Tron. The security program stood in the back, with Beck at his side. Natasha noticed that he had few circuits on his suite. He must have changed it after Tony rigged the computer.
"What am I supposed to tell the press?" Fury's voice huffed with annoyance. Natasha wondered just how long they had been gone.
"Just tell them that half of the team is on vacation," Tony replied. "After all, we are kind of on vacation..." He broke off when Clint swore under his breath. "Well, for some of us this is a vacation."
"Fine, but if anything happens we're sending backup," Fury snapped.
Natasha winced when she saw horror written in Tron's expression. She didn't think he could handle 'protecting' other Users. Four Users was bad enough. An entire group could make him blow a circuit or two.
"We can take care of ourselves, sir," she said after walking over to Tony's side.
"I sure hope you're right, Romanoff. The world can't afford to lose Earth's Mightiest heroes." Fury sounded disgruntled as the image went blank.
"'Earth's Mightiest heroes'?" Beck looked at them in amusement as Tony sighed in frustration.
"Yep, that's what they call us." Clint rolled his eyes when Natasha shot him a glare.
"You may be considered heroes on the User world, but here you are considered User scum," Tron said after his suit returned to it's normal state.
Natasha found this suit more appealing than the others she'd seen him use. The bright 'T' on his chest reminded her of something a SHIELD agent would wear.
"So what now?" Beck asked the question with a shrug.
"You need to keep training," Tron replied. "I've seen what you Users are capable of. Maybe you can give him a few pointers."
That doesn't sound like such a good idea, Natasha thought warily. She wondered if Beck would have joined SHIELD if he were a User. He was well-built for the tasks agents were sent off to perform. He might even skilled enough to join the Avengers Initiative.
"Why not? Might make some good use of our time." Clint was grinning. That was never a good thing.
She glared at her partner as Steve just looked at both him and Beck. Knowing Clint he would push Beck to his limits.
"Alright, you have a deal." Beck didn't seem put off by the archer's challenge.
With a sigh of frustration, Natasha stepped back as Steve joined Tony by the computer screen. Tron watched from a safe distance, eyes bright with curiosity. Natasha had a feeling that he was more interested in what Clint could teach his apprentice.
Clint's smirk never faded as he dodged each of Beck's blows. His SHIELD training had not been forgotten since their departure. This time Beck tried using his disk, but Clint saw the move coming and tossed the disk aside like it was nothing.
He managed to kick Beck aside with great ease, pinning the young program to the floor. Beck glared at him in frustration when Clint had a firm grip on his arms. The smirk never faded when the mock fight was over.
"Where'd you learn to fight like that?" Tron seemed more impressed than ever when they both stood up.
"SHIELD, and a few other teachers," Clint replied with a shrug.
Natasha pursed her lips when she caught the flash in his eyes. Neither of them enjoyed talking about their past. And rightfully so. Tony and Fury were the few people that knew what had happened to them.
"Moves like that will come in handy when you're fighting Clu's soldiers." Surprise flared within Natasha, and another wave of unease rolled over her.
"What makes you think we want to fight your battle?" Steve demanded.
"Unless you plan on staying trapped for the rest of your lives, you will need to fight," Tron snapped. "Clu will stop at nothing to get his hands on you. Now that he has your weapons, he is going to be more dangerous than ever."
Her fears were confirmed. She exchanged a worried look with Clint, one that Steve and Tony didn't miss.
This was about to become their war, and they were far from prepared for it. They needed Thor and Hulk now more than ever.
