You guys, the end is here. I am kind of sad right now so I'll get right to it.
CITY OF CRYING ANGELS
"So, are you like a zombie now?"
Isabelle quickly hit Simon on the chest as he asked Magnus this question. They were standing outside the Institute - waiting. Jace had sent a fire message to the Clave and another one to the Lightwoods, explaining what happened. At least that's what he said. Considering they were still waiting for anyone to show up, Jace could have easily written something like: Thanks for nothing, you better don't show up here. And he couldn't ask Clary what Jace had written because she had stayed in the Institute, keeping an eye on the still unconscious Sebastian.
"Have you ever seen a zombie as well dressed as I am? Besides, even if they existed and I were one you'd be save, since zombies would eat brains." Magnus replied.
Simon slowly nodded. "Right... ouch..."
"Well, you deserved it." Izzy said. "But seriously" she turned to Magnus. "How are you still alive? I mean I wasn't there but-"
"I was." Jace said in a dark voice, guilt mirroring in his face. "And you were dead. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you're back, I just don't understand."
Magnus exhaled and looked at Alec.
Alec, who had not really been shocked to see him, as Clary had told Simon. That was weird, right? After all he'd been out of his mind ever since he'd seen Magnus drop dead on the floor. But... come to think of it... he had calmed down pretty quickly afterward. He hadn't exactly been happy, but he should have been more depressed, right?
Simon frowned as he thought about this. "The portal..."
He didn't realize that he had said that out loud until everyone started at him. Alec actually smiled a bit, almost as if he were proud of Simon for figuring it out.
"What portal?" Izzy asked.
"The one Magnus used to get to his father. Alec went through to get the Tear of an Angel but... that wasn't all you did there, was it?"
Now all eyes were on Alec, some judgmental, some questioning his sanity.
"Don't look at me like that." he said. "I'd like to see how any of you would handle a situation like that! I wasn't thinking clearly. I was on the floor with Magnus' body in my arms when I remembered that the portal was still there. And then I remembered where it led... I didn't went through to get the Tear but it's a good thing he gave me that anyway. I went through because I needed to see if there was something he could do about the situation. And there was. But he wasn't strong enough to do it on his own. That's why he needed my blood. He was going to use it to turn himself into a paradox and was confident that he could bring Magnus back once he was."
"But isn't that dangerous? I mean, Lilith wanted to become a paradox, too..." Simon asked.
"It's not permanent." Magnus said. "Once the blood is out of his system he'll be back to being the normal freak he always has been."
Simon remembered the conversation he and Alec had had.
"He wanted your blood?"
"But why? Greater Demons don't drink blood… do they?"
"He wasn't going to mix himself a cocktail, Simon. He… simply needed it. Look, it doesn't matter"
With a light smile on his lips he shook his head. It made sense now. He also understood why Alec hadn't just told him the whole truth. "You weren't sure if it was going to work, were you?" he asked.
Alec looked at him for a moment before he shook his head. "How could I have been? He was talking about resurrection... nothing like that has ever happened before."
"Not that we know of." Magnus said. "I highly doubt this is the kind of thing that gets documented. And my father isn't exactly the type to do things and see how they will turn out... he knew it would work. However, there is something I should probably tell you." He turned to Alec. "Apparently resurrecting someone takes a lot of energy. More than my father had. And being the selfless, lovey-dovey demon he is - he was not willing to use up that much of his energy to bring me back."
Alec frowned. "Then why-"
"He only used enough to bring a flicker of life back inside of me... and then he used my powers."
"So... you don't have your powers anymore?" Simon asked.
Turning to him Magnus said: "Make no mistake, I could still turn you into a rat if you annoy me. And I still have powers they're just more limited than they were before. I'll get drained sooner and I'll probably need help from other Warlocks if there is some great spell I need to work. And..." He looked back at Alec. "I'm not immortal anymore."
No one even dared to breathe and Alec stared at Magnus in disbelief.
"W-What?" Alec finally managed to ask.
"From now on I will age. And one day, I will die."
After another moment of silence Alec said: "I'm sorry..."
"For what? Saving my life?" Magnus sounded sincere and yet Simon couldn't help but thinking that there was just the slightest trace of sadness in his voice. Of course. He had lived for only he knew how many years. Becoming mortal was a huge change he needed to process and that would take a while.
Magnus smiled at Alec and continued: "Besides... Growing old is the one thing I haven't tried yet. And I can't wait to see which one of us will get his first grey hair."
Alec laughed and then leaned forward to kiss Magnus.
They were disturbed by the doors of the Institute getting opened – Clary came out of it. "The Clave is here." she said. "They say they will bring Sebastian to the City of Bones until they figure out what to do with him."
"What's to figure out? I say kill that Son of a Bitch!" Jace said.
"It's not that simple and you know it." Alec said. "She sword destroyed everything demonic inside of him... the Clave needs to sort out whether what's left of him is still the same person who did all this horrible stuff or not." He looked at Magnus. "We should probably go inside."
Magnus nodded. As him, Jace and Clary started walking toward the Institute Alec turned to Izzy. "Are you coming? I'm sure the Clave wants to talk to you, too."
"They can wait." she said. "I'm staying with Simon."
Alec looked at him and back at Izzy, nodding. "Okay. You do that."
After everyone was gone Isabelle turned to Simon, honestly confused. "Did I imagine this or did Alec just give us his blessing? Not that I need it but... he never seemed to like you very much."
Simon grinned. "Well, things can change when you're forced to spend some quality time together. Either that or you kill each other. But we survived, so..."
Izzy let her head rest on Simon's shoulders. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her just a bit closer to him.
"You kept your promise." she said. As he frowned she lifted her head and looked at him. "You said you would bring me back and you did."
Simon smiled. "I couldn't have done it without you. As good as I am in smooth talking great demons who are growing their new body in a Shadowhunter... I don't think I could have gotten Lilith to drink the Tear."
"Maybe not. But you reminded me who I was. Somewhere along the way I forgot. I forgot that I was strong, that no one messes with me... because Sebastian had. Remember when I told you that he destroyed a part of me with what he did?"
Simon nodded lightly.
Her eyes were tearing up but the smile on her face told him that it were tears of happiness. "You fixed it. You didn't just save my life... you saved me."
As he smiled she lifted her hand and stroke his cheek. "Now. You listen carefully, Vampire, because I have never said that to anyone before so you better pay attention." He grinned at her tone, because bossing him around, that was so Izzy, and he could still burst out of joy to have her back.
"I love you, Simon Lewis. And I don't ever want to be without you again."
Hearing those words made him feel like everything had been worth it. All the pain he went through, all the drama... Isabelle loved him. Really loved him... he'd known it but hearing it was so much different.
He lifted his hand and took hers into his. "I love you, too, Isabelle Lightwood. But you don't have to worry about being without me. Don't you remember? With me, you have a stalker for life."
Izzy laughed and Simon wiped away a tear from her cheek. "I will never leave you."
"Not even when I beg to you leave..." she said, still a smile on her lips and in a low voice, as they leaned closer towards each other.
"... or you threaten to kill me..."
"You'll never let go."
The moment their lips touched everything inside his head vanished. Sebastian's threat, what he put Izzy through, Lilith... it didn't matter anymore. All that mattered was with him right now – he needed Isabelle more than he had ever needed anything else before.
One day, Simon was sure, Lilith would be back. And boy, she'd be pissed... but as long as Izzy was with him, it didn't matter what or who was to come. They'd defeat everything because they had something worth fighting for.
So, this is it. I hope you enjoyed the Epilogue as much as I enjoyed writing it! I was close to tears at some points.
I thank every single one of you who has been with me on this ride for 6 months. That's right, I started writing the story in April and it's October now. It's hard to let go of something after such a long time. But I feel like I gave the story the ending it deserved. I realize I let some things out of the open... Sebastian and Lilith... but I will not write a sequel. This stoy is told. I put the Characters through enough drama xD
However, I have an idea for another Sizzy Fanfic. Not sure how Malec would fit in there, though. BUT: I have so many ideas for so many fandoms and right now I need to get some other stuff out of my system. I will get back to Sizzy eventually it will just take some time. But once I do, maybe I'll see you again :) Till then, take care!
