One Of Those Days

A rake. An actual rake.

Luke momentarily had to check himself for signs that he was not a cartoon or the protagonist of a slapstick film. He looked above him to make sure there was no ring of birds flying in a continuous circle around his head, or a bruise that would emerge on another spot on his head if he pushed it back in.

He had actually stood on the head of the rake, causing the long pole attached to flip up and hit him in the face. He didn't even know that things like this happened in real life.

Rubbing his nose and groaning at the sensitivity the pole had left, Luke shook his head.

"Ridiculous..." he mumbled, continuing up the path to his doorstep.

Then, in a moment that he couldn't even register, he was on the ground, looking up at the sky, the blue and white patches hazy and blurred. What on Earth was going on here?!

He picked himself up from the ground and pulled away the sticky yellow mess stuck to his shoe.

A banana peel. He had actually slipped on a banana peel.

"This can't get any more ridiculous!", he declared, with hasty confidence. That was a mistake, a big, big mistake.

You should never tempt fate like Luke did in that moment - especially with the bruise in a line on his face, left by the rake, and the throbbing in the back of his head caused so suddenly by the banana peel. This was unbelievable, but then again, so were many of the things he'd seen.

He took a breath in and prepared to make another step towards his front door, but as he did... he felt something hit his head.

Something wet.

Something sticky.

Something from the back of an overhead bird.

"This cannot get any worse."

The statement was made hastily. Because it could get worse...

That's when the piano fell from the sky, and right onto him. Luke emerged from the wreckage, rubbing his head, dazed and deeply confused.

"Well," he started, with an air of caution, "At least it's... not raining."

Then a zombie appeared.

Sorry, Luke. Sorry, everybody.
