AkaKuro AU Challenge

Omake Collection part 1

Day 01: Coffee-shop

"Tetsu… Coffee…"

"Kuroko, give me whatever this guy's having. And make it extra strong."

Kuroko eyed his two friends with a concerned glance. "Welcome, Aomine-kun and Kagami-kun. What happened to the both of you? You both look tired."

"Tired is an understatement, I swear." Kagami, the red-headed firefighter, sighed as he plopped down unto one of the chairs. "Did you have any idea how many fires we had to put out in one night?"

"Hey, don't you complain. Who was the one tracking down that serial arsonist so you people would have less fires to put out?" Aomine, Japan's only dark-skinned, navy-haired police officer, complained. "Do you have any idea how hard it was to make that arrest? We had to chase that bastard all the way to the Yamanashi Prefecture before he reached Shizuoka. And in the middle of the night to boot. How he travelled that fast and far is beyond my knowledge."

"At least you didn't have to haul large pipes and endure blaze after blaze threatening to scar your face. I swear I have this charred stench on me now. And I still have to report in for work at noon."

"Hah! At least I'm free for the rest of the day. Glad I booked my leave a month in advance."

"Lucky bastard."

"Hey, it's not everyday of the month that Kise's free. And besides, he's been away for so long, it's about time he came back home."

"Must be tough having a world-famous model for a lover, huh."

"You have no idea."

"Here, coffee."

"Thanks, Kuroko."

"Much appreciated, Tetsu."

"If you'd like, Kagami-kun, you can borrow the shower and the couch. This place is closer to the fire-station to your home, plus you left a change of clothes the last time you came over."

"Oh yeah, that basketball game we had last month…"

"Man, that was fun. We should definitely do that again sometime… when we aren't so dead tired."

"For once, I agree with Aho-mine. Bit it really helps when your house is just behind the café, isn't it?"

"Well, it makes things more convenient for me. At least I save on travelling time and money."

"And the best thing is that there's a street-ball court next door." Kagami took one large gulp, and finished his coffee. "Thank's for the perk-me-up, Kuroko. I'll take your offer on the shower and the nap."

"By the way, Tetsu," Aomine put down his empty mug on the table next to Kagami's, just as the latter disappeared. "Where's that regular of yours?"

"Regular?"

"That dude with the red hair who always sits in that corner and comes in a business suit. He's usually the first one here."

"Ahh… You mean Akashi-kun? He has a meeting first thing in the morning and he doesn't have the time to drop by."

"And how would you know that?"

"He sent me a text message informing me yesterday."

"Ohh?"

"What's with that expression on your face?"

"Since when did you get so cozy with him? Isn't he just a customer?"

"Akashi-kun is… special."

Aomine raised an eyebrow, a sign that he'd caught the meaning behind that statement. "Is that so? But I thought you always had the hots for Baka-gami."

"Kagami-kun is just a good friend to me. Just like you are."

"Hmm… but I didn't think that that shorty would be your type."

"Akashi-kun's taller than me."

"Anyone shorter than Kise is a shorty."

"You are indirectly insulting me, Aomine-kun. And if you don't want anymore coffee, I'd suggest you head home right away. Kise-kun has been sending me a barrage of text messages for the past hour demanding to know where his 'precious Aominecchi' is."

"He's home already?! Oh yeah, his flight was supposed to have landed three hours ago…"

"I completely forgotten!" Aomine leaped from his chair. "Thanks for the coffee, Tetsu! I'll see ya tomorrow!"

Leaving the money on the counter, Aomine rushed out of the café, the bell on the door protested with a violent jingle. But before it closed, someone reached out to grab it.

"Akashi-kun…"

"The meeting ended early; I have an hour before I need to return to the office. So I thought I could have my usual before I head back."

"A vanilla latte, is it?"

"Yes."

"I'll prepare it right away."

"You don't have to rush. By the way, I saw that policeman-friend of yours rushing out earlier…"

"He was late for a very important engagement with his lover."

"Ahh."

"Did he run into you?"

"Nearly. At least he had the decency to apologize." Akashi placed his briefcase down on the table, and let out a loud sigh.

"They say sighing takes years off your life. What happened to you out of late?"

"Well, nothing much."

"People always say that when there's really something up." Kuroko remarked with a raised eyebrow, placing Akashi's order on his table. "Why don't you get it off your chest? It might make you feel better."

"It's really not that big a problem. It's just that work has been constantly piling up lately, I barely have any time for anything else. It's even difficult for me find time to enjoy a warm cup of my favourite drink made specially by my dear lover."

"It's probably because it's coming to the end of the financial year. Once that clears, you'll have more time, won't you?"

"I suppose. Working hard and doing my best is the few things I can do right now."

"And once you've finished everything, why don't you take a long break?"

"That does sound good, but I usually don't have anything to do on my off days. Unless you are willing to spend a day or two off with me."

"I don't see why not."

"Oh? I was merely jesting, you know."

"But I'm serious. It has been a while since I took any days off, so this might be a good chance to take a break."

"So what do you suggest we do? Shall we take a trip somewhere? If it's a short trip of two to three days it should be fine with the both of us."

"Actually, a friend of mine gave me some coupons to a ryoukan in the Ishikawa prefecture that is famous for its hot springs for my birthday two months ago. If you don't mind, we could go there together."

"That does sound wonderful. I don't mind."

"Let me know the exact dates when you are free and I'll make the reservations right away."

"I'll let you know as soon as I can."

"I'm looking forward to this trip."

"So am I. It'll be our first trip together, won't it? We'll have plenty of time to ourselves." Akashi finished his drink, and stood to leave after placing the money for his drink on the table. "I need to be back at the office soon. I'll contact you soon, Tetsuya. Thanks for the treat."

The red-head gave him a quick farewell kiss on his cheek and left the café before Kuroko could react.

As he collected the cup Kuroko smiled to himself, his hand touching where Akashi's lips had brushed against earlier.

"No problem at all."

Day 03: Kuroko-in-Rakuzan

The buzzer sounded repeated as one successful shot after another was made, and everyone in both teams and the audience cringed as the numbers of the scoreboard continued to change.

It was the final match of the Winter Cup between the defending champions, Rakuzan High and their opponents, Touou Academy. It was a fierce battle between the captain and ace of Generation of Miracles, and with the former's side leading only by a six-point difference, it would be easy for the latter to overtake them if they weren't careful.

And right at this moment, Touou's annoyingly-apologetic shooting guard just scored another three-pointer, making their team one shot away from a tie.

"Damn!" He heard Mibuchi curse; a rare sight that only comes when the effeminate boy is at his limit. "If only I weren't so careless…"

"No use saying that now, Reo. Take those points back instead of just lamenting over it."

"Sei-chan…"

"But I know all of you are getting tired. They are probably much more stronger than when you all played against them during the Inter-High. Don't push yourselves too hard. Injuries are the last thing I want anyone to have."

But this really wasn't going to be easy.

Eight more minutes of the fourth quarter to go… perhaps it's time to change the flow of the game.

He directed a gaze to Mayuzumi, who caught on its meaning and replied with a slight nod. He redirected that gaze back to Coach Shirogane on the bench, who already knew what he needed to do.

Upon receiving the pass from Hayama, Mayuzumi passed it to Akashi, who quickly directed it out of bounds.

The referee's whistle blew, and he called out, "Rakuzan! Member change!"

The call was a relief to the rest of the team, who had already expected this. Mayuzumi retreated back to the bench, giving a pat on the shoulder of his replacement.

On Touou's side, there was a mix of looks on their faces. However, only their ace looked amused.

"About time you came out… Tetsu."

"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting." The teal haired boy remarked while adjusting his familiar black wristbands.

"Tetchan!"

"Kuroko!"

Mibuchi and Hayama both looked relieved and delighted, while Nebuya gave a large grin. Their captain looked the most relieved as their newly-joined comrade approached him.

"I'm here, Seijuurou-kun."

"I'm glad you are, Tetsuya. Are you ready to go?"

"As ready as I can ever be. I was just waiting for you to call for me."

"And I did. Let's show Daiki what we can do, shall we?"

"Yes, let's."

"Oh, before that…" Akashi held both of Kuroko's shoulders and leaned forward to press a kiss on his lips, an unexpected action that shocked both friend and foe alike.

"I always known that Sei-chan is bold, but this is…!"

"Akashiiiiiii!" Even the usually-shameless Hayama was embarrassed by his juniors. "Not nowwwww!"

"Akashi, damn you!" Aomine growled, and if not for a combined effort between Imayoshi and Susa would have darted across the court to pull the happy couple apart. "Get your hands off Tetsu! He's mine!"

"No, he's mine!" Momoi yelled from the bench, but was ignored by everyone else.

"What nonsense are you spouting, Daiki? Tetsuya is mine; he always has been from the start. Just because you were chosen to be his partner back then doesn't mean you can get carried away and lay your hands on him."

"Erm, Akashi-kun, can we leave this for later? We still have a match to play, and if the both of you start arguing here it will be troublesome for me and everyone else."

"I understand. We will continue this later, Daiki."

"No. How about this? The winner of this match gets Tetsu."

"I'm sorry, I refuse to accept your challenge."

"Hah? Why? You scared?"

"Of course not. Tetsuya is not an object of sorts to be competed over. Rather, he should be treasured, so much more than anyone would a jewel or gold. And aside from the fact that I always win, I will not let anyone have Tetsuya." Akashi smiled, an expression that was betrayed by the aura he was radiating. "Now, let's finish this match properly, shall we?"

-END-

Day 06: Akashi-in-Seirin

Notes: I gave a thought about how Akashi would address the second-years if he was in Seirin. If he was willing to follow Kuroko all the way to Seirin, I figured that he would respect Riko's decisions and is unlikely to fight with Hyuuga over the position of Captain. I would also think that he has respect for his seniors and addresses them properly. Another thing is that in the one-shot, Akashi mentioned about how a captian was responsible for the well-being of his team. He was referring to his reign in Teikou. (In this AU, Hyuuga is still captain of Seirin.)

"Tetsuya, it's almost time for practice. Are you done packing up?"

"I am. I was about to leave."

"That's perfect, then. Let's head to the gymnasium together."

"How did the student council meeting go?"

"It's the same as always. There's plenty of work that needs to be done at the end of the week, though."

"I see. It must be hard for you to have to balance your studies, basketball practice and work for the student council work for so long. It was the same back in middle school."

"It's a matter of getting used to it. Besides, you know I'm capable of that much."

"That's true. By the way, I heard that the coach is planning some sort of event on next Sunday. Do you have any idea what it might be about?"

"I'm not too sure, but if I have to make a guess might be a combined practice session or something."

"I was thinking the same thing. Looks like we would be practicing with Kaijou."

"Kaijou? I was thinking that it'll be with Touou."

"But she asked me for Kise-kun's number…"

"And she asked me for Momoi's." Akashi now wore a puzzled frown on his face. "What is going on here?"

"Kuroko! Akashi! What are the two of you doing over there? Practice already started!"

"Izuki-senpai…"

"Senpai, have you heard anything about next Sunday?"

"No, not really. But I'm sure she's planning something. She asked me whether I knew how to contact Takao from Shuutoku."

"Shuutoku?" Kuroko and Akashi both exchanged a glance.

"Izuki-senpai, do you know what coach has in mind?" Akashi asked.

"Who knows… I didn't hear anything from her yet…" Izuki pondered for a moment, trying to recall any information that may be of use. "Ah! Maybe there's something. She asked me for some funds to book the public court at the park near the station for next Sunday morning."

"Is that so?" Kuroko murmured, still unsure of what was going on.

"Well, I'm sure she'll make an announcement sooner or later. Just wait till' then. Ah! That aside; practice! We're already this late! We better get going!"

Izuki gave his two juniors each a light shove on the back, urging them to hurry.

The three made their way to the gymnasium as quickly as they could, and they made it just as everyone started warming up. Fortunately, the all had a legitimate reason for being late, so they were spared from any form of brutal punishment.

And after practice, they finally got to know the answer to the question that were plaguing their minds.

"Listen up, everyone! You all better keep next Sunday morning free, because I've got something amazing lined up for all of you!"

"It's not another training session from hell, is it?" Furihata grimaced, whispering to Kawahara. "We already had plenty this summer."

"Looks like it." Kawahara whispered back. "But next Sunday is the day before school reopens, isn't it?"

"Listen before you make any assumptions, idiots." Hyuuga interrupted, delivering a knuckle to each of their heads.

"So, as I was about to say," Riko cleared her throat before she continued. "We are going to have a mini 3-on-3 street ball tournament next Sunday!"

"Ehhh?!"

No one had expected that coming. Even Akashi and Kuroko looked somewhat surprised.

"It will be at the courts at the park by the station! I also invited some of the starters from Kaijou, Shuutoku and Touou to join us!"

"Seriously?"

"Well, this is quite unexpected."

"So that means the Generation of Miracles will be coming?!"

"Ahaha! Interesting! I'm looking forward to it! Let's all have fun!"

"Why are you getting all fired up?"

"Calm down, Hyuuga. You'll burst a vein soon; it's not worth getting worked up like this. Wait! Burst a vein in vain! Got it!"

"Izuki, shut up."

"Do you think Midorima-kun and the rest would show up?"

"If it's Shintarou, he would. Especially since he lost to us during the Inter High. As for Ryouta, I can say the same thing."

"What about him?"

"If it's Daiki we're talking about, I have confidence that Satsuki will manage to convince him."

"So we will only be missing Murasakibara-kun."

"It can't be helped; Akita's too far away from here. And knowing Atsushi, waking up early on a Sunday morning is impossible. But we'll be fine without him around."

"It's a pity that he can't join us, but I'm actually looking forward to this."

"I would agree. It will be an interesting tournament. And since it's a Sunday, we could always go on a date after that."

"We have school the next day, you know."

"Then you can stay over at my place. My father's going to be out of the country, plus your parents already see me as their future son-in-law."

"Since when? They only think of our relationship as that of friends."

"But that doesn't mean that they don't trust me."

"Trusting people and that other matter are two completely different things altogether, Akashi-kun."

"But I'm sure your parents would gladly allow me to have your hand in marriage if I asked."

"Please do not make such assumptions."

"Back to the talk of our date, how about we go to the newly-opened aquarium? I know you've been dying to go there, and I heard that the cafe near the souvenir shop is famous for its milkshakes… the vanilla flavour in particular."

"…!"

"So? How about it?"

"If you insist on going… I guess I could accompany you…"

"It's decided, then."

In the meantime, the rest of the team tried their best to ignore the scene in front of them, but failed. As much as they wanted to say something about it, they felt too awkward to even open their mouths

"Ahaha! Looks like they're still as lovey-dovey as ever!"

"I'll put each of them in a Boston Crab Hold later before they leave."

"And I'll give them a knuckle sandwich or two."

"Kiyoshi, that's not something to laugh about. Coach and Hyuuga; both of you calm down."

"Izuki, seriously; please shut up."

"Eh? Why?! I didn't even crack any jokes this time!"

"Well, your voice sounded a little annoying so it just came out…"

"What's that supposed to mean?!"

The awkward silence was soon filled with laughter, and everyone started talking about the mini-tournament that was going to take place soon with a bright gleam in their eyes. At this scene before them the two former Teikou players smiled.

"It's as lively as it always is."

"Is it a bad thing?"

"Not reslly. I prefer it this way, actually."

"I see… that's good."

"Why do you say that, Tetsuya?"

"I was worried that you had regrets of not choosing Rakuzan instead. They are considered the best school in the country in basketball, after all."

"Nonsense. The best team in Japan can only be the team that I'm playing for. Also, being the best and winning wouldn't be the same without you by my side. That was something that I had realized… no. It was something that you have taught me when the rest of us were led astray. If you hadn't left that letter in my locker when you quit the team, I might have just remained the cruel person I was. I wouldn't have realized that there was something more important than winning… and that is you, Tetsuya. You have given me so much, yet I only made you suffer time after time. That's why I decided that I will never leave your side ever again. As long as I can make you happy… I will not have any regrets."

"Akashi-kun… Thank you."

"But of course, I will make this the best team in Japan. And once we accomplish that, I shall pay a visit to your house to officially claim you as my bride."

"Akashi-kun, that's a cruel way of ruining the mood."

"Enough with this idiot couple! Hurry up and get married already, for all I care!"

Izuki gave his enraged captain a pat on the shoulder and sighed. "… (Hyuuga, calm down, really.)"

"Shut up already, Izuki!"

"I didn't even say anything this time!?"

Day 14: Werewolves

"Akashicchi's gone for quite a while now... do you think he'll be back soon?"

"It's not rare that he's out this long. You're worrying too much."

"But Midorimacchi! Aren't you the least bit concerned?"

"Kise-chin, you're noisy."

"I agree with Murasakibara and Midorima for once. You're being annoying with your yelping and your pacing. If you're so free, why don't you go kill a moose for our dinner or something?"

"There aren't any around here! And why do I have to catch dinner for all of you?"

"Don't you know? The survival of the pack is more important than the survival of the individual. For us to survive, one has to make sacrifices, so quit yer yipping and go get us some grub. Deers will be great; I can smell them some hundreds of meters away. You better get a big one, or we won't be doing that for a week."

"Why are you threatening me like this?! Why can't we all go together? And I really don't like the way you said that, Aominecchi! It's because of that mindset of yours, Kurokocchi—"

"Shut up, Kise."

"Why are you avoiding that topic? It's because of you he left us!"

"You were part of it too! Don't put all the blame on me!"

"At least I was the only one aside from Akashicchi who didn't bite him!"

"You would have too if Akashi didn't return at that moment!"

"Kise and Aomine, if you two are going to argue, do it outside. It echoes in here, and the weather's already hot enough."

"I'm roasting..." Murasakibara started to complain, but did not continue.

Midorima, who noticed his odd behaviour, questioned him. "What is it, Murasakibara? Is something nearby?"

"Aka-chin's back… and he has Kuro-chin with him."

"WHAT?"

Everyone was surprised by the revelation.

"But they aren't moving at all. They've stopped somewhere around—"

Murasakibara could not finish his sentence before everyone started moving. Aomine was the first to morph and bolt out of their cave, Kise following closely behind. Midorima and Murasakibara were following their trail, at least, until about three hundred meters away from where the largest wolf had sensed them.

"I don't think it's wise for the two of you to go any further…"

The warning was ignored completely, and the two continued to pursue the familiar scent. They were so caught up in chasing it, they failed to even hear the loud string of pants and gasps coming from behind the large rock they were headed to.

"Tetsu!"

"Akashicchi! Kurokocchi!"

But what the two saw next was something that could not be unseen.

In many more ways than one.

"Whoa…"

"Daiki… Ryouta…" The pack's Alpha was radiating an aura so intense, the knees of the two bravest (or rashest) wolves from the pack nearly gave way right there. "Whoever said you could interrupt us, hmm?"

"We're sorry! We didn't see anything! Really! I'll be going!" Kise was first to turn away and run to the safety of the other two wolves.

Aomine, on the other hand, was still unable to move or even turn his gaze away.

"Aomine-kun, stop staring at me with that face. It's already embarrassing enough to be caught in this situation."

"Are you asking to be kicked out of the pack, Daiki? Leave. Now."

At his Alpha's snarl, the werewolf retreated, rejoining his companions.

"This is why I told the two of you to stop." Midorima let out an exasperated sigh. "Let's return to the den. We'll wait for them there."

Everyone agreed wordlessly.

From that day on, no one in the pack dared to go near a two hundred meter radius of where ever their Alpha and his mate goes together… or when strange yelping and panting noises could be heard from behind rocks, trees or bushes.

Unless they were asking for trouble, of course.

Last words:

There were supposed to be two more omakes, one for the Body-Switch AU of Day 22 and another for the Demons AU of Day 23. I couldn't really make it in time, so I'll do another Omake Collection to make up for it. I might do more if I can think of any.

Oh, and happy KuroAka Day, everyone.

Announcement:

The third and final phase of the AkaKuro AU Challenge will be back on Tuesday, 3rd December 2013! Look forward to it!
