Chapter Fourteen

21st June 1997

"I can't believe I finally did it!" Millicent crowed.

"Hey what about us?" Crabbe and Goyle protested.

The Slytherin girl snorted and rolled her eyes.

"Oh please," she scoffed, "you two are so thick you never would have figured it out."

The three teens were in the Room of Requirement looking at a black cabinet with silver handles. There was one just like it in Borgin and Burkes. Millicent had been working tirelessly on the one in the Room of Requirement as it was central to the Dark Lord's plan.

"I'll send word to our Master," Millicent said a triumphant gleam in her eyes, "two nights from now Hogwarts will change for the better."

She smirked and turned on her heel Crabbe and Goyle behind her. The door to the Room of Requirement closed behind them.

...

In Dumbledore's office two men stood opposite each other. One was tall with long silver hair and beard. The other one was no less tall but had slightly shorter hair that was black and sort of greasy.

"I trust you have a plan headmaster," the black haired man said.

"Of course Severus," Dumbledore said reassuringly, "I have told Harry that he needs to look for the horcruxes that Voldemort made. He will take Ron and Hermione with him. In the meantime I expect you to work with the Order and use everything you know from serving under Voldemort to help them."

Snape had officially left the Deatheaters and started working for Dumbledore and the Order. Voldemort was beyond angry and the Potion Master's only blessing was that he still remained ignorant of the fact that he had a daughter.

Snape nodded to acknowledge Dumbledore's orders.

"What about you?" he asked.

"Everything is arranged and I'll have Fawkes to keep me company."

From his perch Fawkes regarded the two men silently.

...

Harry and Draco were making the most of the sunny weather and the fact that their exams were over. They sat a bench in the school courtyard watching Lilyana and Bastian as they tried to chase a snitch around. Lilyana toddled a few steps and then landed on her bum. Harry got to his feet in case she started crying but the red haired one year old just laughed and scrambled onto her feet again. The biggest drama came when Bastian was reaching for the snitch and fell on to his knees. He was wearing three quarter tan coloured shorts so he scraped his little knees.

As soon as he fell he started crying. Harry and Draco ran over to him and knelt down next. Draco held the silver eyed boy in his lap while Harry had a look at his knees. They were only scraped a little bit and Harry cast healing charm which made the scrapes disappear. Bastian's eyes dried and he stared at his knee in wonder and gave his daddy a brilliant smile. Harry smiled back and ruffled his son's jet black hair.

While Draco had Lilyana and Bastian occupied Harry caught the snitch which had been spelled to slow down so the children could chase it. He put the snitch in his pocket and returned to his family. He pressed a chaste kiss to Draco's lips and kissed his children on their foreheads.

It was getting close to lunch time so Harry and Draco put their children in their slings and headed back to the castle.

On their way back they ran in to Hermione who was carrying Madonna in a sling on her back.

"Hi Hermione," the couple greeted her.

"Hello Harry, hello Draco," the bushy haired girl replied, "what have you been up to?"

"We were just sitting in the courtyard with Lilyana and Bastian," Harry told her, "what about you?"

"I've been reading to Madonna," she said gazing at her daughter with affection.

The three of them continued on their way to the castle chattering away about anything and everything.

...

That night at dinner the Hogwarts parents all sat together with, of course, the noticeable exception of Millicent, Crabbe and Goyle. Draco and Harry sat next to each other with Lilyana and Bastian settled in their laps perfectly content after having been fed.

The students avoided talking about what would happen next year. It was so uncertain. Everyone could feel that something was about to change. They just didn't know when.

Unconsciously Harry raised his hand to his head and rubbed at his scar. His friends looked at him worriedly.

"Is your scar hurting you Harry?" Hermione asked anxiously.

"A little," the raven haired teen admitted, "Voldemort isn't here though or we would know it."

The students around the table shifted uneasily at the mention of Voldemort's name. There was no more conversation after that.

...

23rd June 1997

Three students crept through the halls of the sleeping castle. They made sure to keep to the shadows as they made their way towards their destination.

They arrived at a seemingly blank stretch of wall. One of the students closed their eyes and concentrated. Suddenly a door appeared in the wall and the three stepped forward and opened the door.

Once inside the room they made their way over to the cabinet that Millicent had fixed. They stopped a few paces from the door and waited. The door slowly opened to reveal a group of people dressed in black. They were lead by a slightly deranged looking woman with wild black hair.

"Well done you three," she said softly to Millicent, Crabbe and Goyle, "now step aside."

The Slytherin students backed off and watched the group pass.

"Now what?" Goyle hissed.

"We return to Malfoy Manor," Millicent said.

Millicent, Crabbe and Goyle hurried through the castle, slipped through the doors and disappeared into the night.

Bellatrix led the group of Deatheaters through the castle until they arrived at Dumbledore's office. She opened the door and stepped inside. Dumbledore was sitting at his desk and looked up at the sound of the intrusion.

"Hello Professor," the Lestrange woman sneered.

"Good evening Bellatrix," Dumbledore said impassively, "I can't say I'm surprised to see. I thought Voldemort would try something like this eventually."

"Enough talking!" Bellatrix raged. She raised her wand and pointed it at Dumbledore.

Before she could say anything Fawkes appeared hovering over his master. The Deatheaters were not quick enough. Dumbledore grabbed the phoenix's feet and disappeared in a burst of flame.

"NO!" Bellatrix howled and pointed her wand at the portrait nearest her. It ripped itself to shreds the occupant screaming the hole time.

...

The sounds of destruction carried through the castle and woke everyone up. Harry hearing Bellatrix's screams managed to put two and two together. Deatheaters had come after the headmaster and somehow the clever old man had escaped.

Wordlessly Harry and Draco looked at each other. They knew what needed to happen. They got dressed as quickly as possible and hurried through the castle.

Along the way they encountered the other Hogwarts parents fleeing the castle.

Everyone met outside the castle grounds.

"You have to leave," Harry told the people assembled, "hide yourselves and keep the children safe."

The group nodded. Dean and Seamus were the first to Disapperate with their two sons and the others quickly followed.

Before Draco left Harry pulled him into brief kiss.

Soon it was only Harry, Ron, Hermione and Snape left.

"We need to get back to Headquarters and alert the Order," Snape said.

The three students nodded and they all quickly Disapparated back to Grimmauld place.

The war had begun. Their only consolation was that their children were now safe.
