Is That Your Natural Hair Colour?

Chloe and Beca were seated at a table on the quad, absorbed in a detailed discussion regarding the world of acapella, music, and anything else really. It was nice being able to simply enjoy each others' presence without the stress of competing over their heads.

"Yikes, your old captain makes Aubrey sound like a saint."

Chloe nodded, Alice not even worth defending. "She was really harsh to Aubrey in particular. I think it was because she felt threatened, but it's really no excuse how she treated us." As she finished speaking, a male student sat down on the seat next to Chloe.

"Is that your natural hair colour?" he asked.

Beca was surprised into a stupor, her mouth slightly open as Chloe replied, "Yeah."

"It's gorgeous," he complimented.

"Thanks."

Beca was immediately alarmed to see him grab a handful of Chloe's hair, and holding it to his scalp as he pressed their heads together.

"See, this is the colour I want." There was no one with him, so he was either speaking to himself or Beca.

As abruptly as he arrived, he released ginger locks and stood up. "Thanks, Chlo!" He grinned and waved before walking off.

The new Bella captain watched the departing boy for a few seconds longer before declaring, "What the fuck?"

Chloe let out a laugh. "Don't worry, that's just Damien. He thinks he's the real life version of the character from Mean Girls." At Beca's still confused look, the redhead let out a small gasp. "Tell me you've seen Mean Girls?!"

A hesitant chuckle before Beca weakly replied, "I actually almost saw it..." An awkward grin formed Beca's face as she found the disbelieving expression on her friend's face incredibly amusing.

"We have to watch it, then!" Beca almost groaned. "It is seriously one of the greatest movies, I've probably seen it like twenty times!" The brunette nodded along, feigning her interest.

"So, what was your friend doing anyways?" She attempted to change the subject.

It worked.

"Oh, it's just a scene from the movie. Damien's character is gay and kind of weird the main character out the first time they meet. Damian feels the need to act out that scene every time we meet." As an afterthought, "Because I'm a redhead." Beca nodded, and took that moment to really take a look at Chloe.

Chloe had gorgeous hair. Her head seemed to spout fire and Beca could easily spot the girl in a crowded room. The red was possibly her most eye catching features, next to her eyes. Come to think of it, she hadn't seen many redheads on campus, which probably made it easier for Chloe to be spotted.

"So you're a natural redhead, huh?"

Chloe nodded with a smile. "Yup, not including when I was born I was kind of blonde, but this is all natural!" Her smile dimmed a little bit as she continued. "I'm the only redhead in my family, so I did feel a little out of place growing up, looking different than my siblings and parents. I even dyed my hair blonde for a while." (This surprised Beca) "And as insecure as I was when I was young, I really do love it now, it's really something I can call my own, you know?"

Beca couldn't help the smile that spread over her face. "Yeah, it's really beautiful." And she froze; how queerballs did she just sound-

"Aww, thanks, Bec!" Chloe engulfed the smaller girl into a hug, and Beca felt heat not just from her face, but in her chest too. Chloe stood up with a determined look on her face. "Now, let's go watch that movie!"

Beca sighed. At least she tried.
