Expect The Unexpected
Four years of peace, though it could not last.
"Special Report! Is Superman and Wonder Woman dating? Engaged? Or are they already MARRIED? That is the big question looming. Good Morning, I am Heather Moore…"
Newspaper headlines, television news headlines and pictures posted everywhere. The media has finally caught up but four years late, which is actually a good thing.
"So what now? Super babies will be flying around next? How many others have children already? Don?"
"Well as you know the list does go on of these superheroes super dating, so it is not surprising, but for the two most powerful super beings? I don't know. I have nothing against it but that's just my opinion."
Diana turned off the television. She had so much on her mind she felt sick with anxiety... or was it something else. The night before, she got up a couple of times because she felt funny with a slight pain in her stomach. She made her a cup of hot tea and tried to go back to sleep but she just couldn't.
Now the news isn't making it any better. She sighed, waiting for Kal to come home.
"I need facts. I've seen Superman and Wonder Woman together countless of times but-"
"Wonder Woman was supposed to be with me! I was supposed to look into her eyes and she was supposed to sweep me off my feet."
Jimmy and Lois went on and Clark tuned them out. He leaned against the counter drinking his coffee, in the break room. He was worried about Diana. She hadn't been the same in weeks and she would always keep her feelings in. He wanted her to talk to him. They are married, she shouldn't distant herself from him.
"Clark, are you listening?" Lois asked tapping him on his shoulder.
"No, Lois, he's not. He's thinking about his wife. Man, C.K., how lucky are you? If I could go home to someone like her…" Jimmy had stopped in mid- sentence day dreaming.
Clark shook his head.
Lois rolled her eyes. "Anyway, Kent, I need to get the exclusive. I need to speak with Superman," she said seeming a little anxious.
Clark looked up. "Lois, are you jealous?"
"Jealous? I don't get jealous. I want to know! This is the biggest story and I want the truth. "
"Ok, whatever you say."
"Kent, what the hell are you trying to get at?"
"I'm just saying you've always had a thing for Superman."
"I am a grown woman; that is very childish. Superman is my close friend that I thought would tell me anything."
"Lois, I think some things are off limits. They have personal lives, too and shouldn't be all over the news."
"Whatever, either way the public has questions. We put our trust in them and whatever we would like to know, they should give us an answer. I will be the one to deliver!" Lois turned to walk away. "Come on, Jimmy." She pulled him by his sleeve as he was still day dreaming.
Clark took his coffee, walking out the break room and went back to his desk. This would be another long day. He could wait to get back to Diana to have her in his arms.
"What's going on, Princess?" Shayera sat beside Diana in a conference room.
"I'm not sure. Ever since that day with Robert Alan Jr, it feels like something is missing."
"After all these years, that is still the topic. We have tried to figure this out but we just don't know. Diana, that day replays in my mind so many times, I remember things were said, things that I know I saw and felt but it doesn't make sense."
"I'm afraid we can never make sense of it."
"That's not the only thing bother you. Is it? Princess, I know you well enough. What happened between you and Clark?"
"There is nothing wrong. Clark is an amazing husband."
"I know that there will be more complications for us and the league but if we told the truth about us as Superman and Wonder Woman being married."
"My opinion is that it would be better just to let them have a good time reporting all of their little stories."
Diana sighed. "You might be right. I'll leave it alone for now."
Shayera was shocked. "What? The Princess actually agreed and listened to me for the first time? There must be something else happening?"
Diana raised her eye brow. "Funny but I'm being serious. I guess over time a lot has really changed. I just want to know if it is for the good."
Diana still had a weary feeling. She was on an emotional high. But she had no clue what for. She never felt this way before. She would never worry so much but she felt something was going to happen.
The day had finally ended for Kal. Coming inside their home, it was really quiet, a peaceful quiet.
"Diana?" He walked into the bedroom and smiled, seeing Diana asleep.
He quietly sat on the edge of the bed. Diana felt his presence and opened her eyes slowly.
"Hey, sleeping beauty."
Diana sat up and smiled. "I'm glad you're home."
"I brought your favorite take out."
"Thank you, love. But I really don't think I can eat anything right now."
"Are you alright? You haven't been feeling well for days."
"I'm fine. I'll try to eat later. I just want you to lay right here with me."
Kal nodded. He took off his shoes and laid on the bed pulling her on top of him.
"Since we are in the spotlight again, Lois wants the big story and Jimmy is disappointed because he still has a crush on you. But all this talk again about us, I don't want you feeling uneasy."
"I know. It's been so many years of the same thing. I hope for the day we will finally stop trying to find something bad about us and the league."
"It will come. For all these years, it's true, we haven't said anything about our personal lives, which we don't have to but people just have to know for a reason unknown."
Diana was silent.
"What else is bothering you? I need you to talk to me."
"I want to have children but I don't know when will be the right time. I don't know if-" she stopped and sat up looking into his eyes. "I don't know if I can."
Kal sat up as well. "Is that why you are haven't been yourself lately?"
Diana was silent again.
He caressed her cheek. "I love you, Diana. I married you because I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Having kids of course I want that. But when it's time, we will. If it's not meant to be –"
Diana looked away from him.
"Look at me."
Looking again into his eyes and seeing how serious he was being, it was hard for her. They had never talk about this, never bringing it up. She didn't think of it until now. But why now?
"Diana, we don't have to worry about what the future brings, we can just let it be. As long as I live the rest of my life with you, I'm the happiest man alive." Kal kissed her cheek.
"You always know what to say."
"I want to make sure you keep that beautiful smile." With a sly grin, "we can have a lot of fun and all the time to keep working toward having our first child."
Diana kissed him passionately as they laid back down, she on top of him. Then she laid her head on his chest as he rubbed her back and kissed her forehead.
"Are you still going to visit your mother?"
"Yes, but it's only two days."
"Two days is still too long. I'm going to miss you. You know I can't be too far away from you."
"It will be very easy for you to stay occupied. I'm sure you have deadlines soon and will go on a mission or two."
"I guess that will do."
Diana nodded against his chest. "I love you so much."
"I love you more than you will ever know."
The next morning, Diana woke up still with anxiety and not up to do much of anything. She needed to get away, though. She needed to talk to her mother. Over these last four and half years, her relationship with her mother has had a positive change. Diana felt comfortable talking to her and that's exactly what she needed.
After she got ready she went downstairs. Kal got up from the couch to walk her to the front door.
"Kal-El, don't look at me like that. I'm just fine." She wrapped her arms around his neck. "When I get back home, we can have time to ourselves."
"I love you."
"And I love you!" Diana kissed and embraced him. She pulled away slowly then flew off.
"Diana, what a pleasant surprise to see you!" Hippolyta said embracing her.
"Mother, I have missed you."
"I have missed you, my dear. Kal-El didn't accompany you?"
"No, I wanted to come alone."
"Diana, what is the matter?"
"For the first time ever I don't know what to say. I don't know how to feel. Kal is worried about me but I don't want him to because I can handle this. Whatever this is."
Hippolyta looked at her. Diana did seem quite different. A quick thought ran through her mind.
"Diana, when will I have a granddaughter?"
"I don't think this is the right time to speak on that matter."
"It is quite time you do. Diana, I won't be queen for long. I know you don't want to be queen but there will be a new heir."
"I don't know if I can! Mother, you have always said that. If there was or is a possibility, I would want my daughter to make her own choice. You know that! I know Kal-El wants a child but I don't know if I can bear a child." Diana turned around not wanting to face Hippolyta. "He says that it is alright but I know it's not."
Hippolyta placed her hand gently on Diana's shoulder. "I think you should see Aleka."
"Aleka? There is nothing wrong with me." Diana turned around. "Mother?"
"Go Diana. I will go with you."
Meanwhile...that same day
Kal pretty much did have one hell of a busy day to keep him occupied. People were typing at their keyboards and running around with papers and folders. In the middle of all of that chaos, he had to leave, being called on a mission. He was finally able to go home a half an hour after midnight. Kal came closer to his home and with his powerful senses he could feel Diana. He could hear her heartbeat.
He walked into the house, surprised to see Diana, already in her robe, walking down the stairs to greet him. Before he could say anything, she embraced him tightly.
Pulling away, Kal closed the front door locking it and they went into the living room.
"I'm glad you're home but why? Did something happen with your mother?" He put his arms around her waist. He knew Diana was again becoming uneasy.
Diana looked down.
"Diana, what's wrong?" Kal was very concerned.
"What if something...something unexpected happened and we're not ready for it?
"What do you mean? No matter what comes our way we will always be ready."
Kal placed his hand under her chin and gently forced her to look at him. He gave her a reassuring smile and kissed her lightly.
"I have something very important to tell you."
"Sir, might I suggest looking into the whereabouts of the Riddler?" Alfred said standing behind Bruce.
"No, this is not Riddler. " Bruce was analyzing he had received anonymously, in front of the Wayne Manor. "A fan of his possibly."
Evil has its got hold. The destroyer was dead and now awake. Minds are twisted. It's too late to stop what has to be done. You had your chance to change and understand.
until true JUSTICE is served. Now everyone is in danger.
Revenge will be the only answer.
Bruce thought for a moment. "Whoever this may be is targeting the league."
"That doesn't narrow the possibility down."
He stared at the letter his mind racing.
