Some say love, it is a river. That drowns the tender reed. Some say love, it is a razor. That leaves your soul to bleed. Some say love, it is a hunger. An endless, aching need. I say love, it is a flower. And you, it's only seed. {Westlife – The Rose}

With a dagger in one hand and the other open facing up, the young soldier proceeded to cut a small gash in his palm. The skin tore easily, the pain stinging only momentarily until he clenched his hand in a fist. Red liquid pored from his wound and over his skin, rolling down his arm and into a small bowl.

Ice blue eyes swept over the campsite. Patches of uniformed men lay across the dry dirt, several wearing bloodied bandages where limbs used to be. They all slept restlessly in green colored sleeping bags, praying tomorrow would bring better days. His gaze fell on Tucker who lay open-mouthed against a tree; drool sliding down his chin.

The young man looked back at the leather covered book. In the center of the camp, a fire cast a wicked glow. His fingers skimmed over the ink bound book, reading the passage quickly. He grabbed a nearby stick and began to draw a circle in the dirt.

Tucker murmured in his sleep before waking. He blinked a few times, adjusting the glasses on his face. "Danny?" he asked, groggy. He stared as his friend made an indent in the earth. "What are you doing?"

With the circle complete, Danny picked up the book, searching for the right page. Tucker jumped to his feet, staring in disbelief. "Danny, do you know what that is? It's a book of black magic! If you use it, you'll be cursed."

"I don't care," Danny growled, adding rocks to the circle barrier. "I'll do whatever it takes to bring him back. And if you cared about him at all, you wouldn't stop me."

"Danny..." Tucker sighed, eyeing the circle around his friend. "You guys were brothers, I get it, but what you're doing is wrong. You can't just steal a witch's book and bring someone back from the dead." Instead of accepting his words, Danny continued with the spell. He raised his hands in the air to let heaven open up to him. It was only a matter of time before he betrayed them all, only to fall down into the dark abyss that awaited him.
