-REMEMBER ME-
PART II

CHAPTER NINETEEN

Don't Blink. Don't Exterminate

"Whatever you do, don't blink," I gasp, terrified. "Keep your eyes on that statue and don't blink."

"Why?!" exclaimed Jexlan. "What is that? Clara?!"

"It's an angel, it's Weeping Angel. A Weeping Angel…that looks like the Doctor. Blimey, that's new. That's…quite frankly, very terrifying."

"Why? What is it, what does it do?"

"Weeping Angels displace you in time…or, worse… It's a statue, well, it's not a statue. It's a Weeping Angel. They can't move while you're looking at it, but once you turn your back, once you blink, it gets you."

I say all of this very fast, my eyes open wide, staring into the eyes of a man I trust with everything. Not anymore. Now, they're twisted into an object of fear.

The Tardis pipes into my head.

"Amy, not the eyes. Look at the Angel, but not the eyes!"

"The eyes aren't the windows to the soul, they are the doors."

I lower my eyes to the bow-tie instead.

"Alright, how to we get out of this, than?" says Jexlan.

"Um…" I say, biting my lip, and trying not to blink. "Um…not entirely sure yet….working that one out."

"Better work it out fast!"

"Don't you think I know that?" I say angrily, whipping around to glare at Jexlan.

Oops.

My hair flips in my face as I get whiplash looking back at the angel.

I scream again.

It's closer, now, less than two feet away, and looks less like the Doctor, more all teeth and terrifying, blank eyes.

Tears spring to my eyes, and I can't blink them away. They roll down my cheeks, there for the Doctor to see.

Not the Doctor.

Clearly, not the Doctor.

"Jexlan," I say, not looking away. "Run."

"What about you?"

"Just go! I'll be fine. Run. RUN!"

"NO! I'm not leaving you!"

"Oh, just GO! Now is not a time for sentiment!"

"Is this what you do? Is this what you actually, properly do? You just crook your finger and people jump in your snog box and fly away?"

"It is not a snog-box!"

"I don't know what to do," I say aloud. "Think!"

And then…

BOOM!

The floor beneath our feet shakes, and dust falls from the ceiling. Jexlan looks at me in fear while I am unable to blink.

"What was-?" I ask.

BOOM!

The floor rumbles, and I clamp my hands over my ears at the noise. My heart already racing from fear, now pumping with adrenaline.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Meanwhile, I can't even look around.

"Jexlan!" I call out. "Jexlan, what is it?!"

"Clara," says Jexlan. "Um, we might need to run."

"Not possible right now!" I mutter, winking one eye at the statue.

"But, no, you don't understand," says Jexlan.

"What is it?"

Jexlan comes into my line of vision.

"Daleks," he says.

"WHAT?" I exclaim, only the fear of death keeping me from turning around out of fear.

Just when you think it couldn't get any worse. Daleks.

"EXTERMINATE!"

"Oh, my stars," I mutter. "Okay, okay, run."

"Run?"

"Yes, run!"

Without blinking, and keeping my eyes on the bowtie, I back out from between the statue and the phone box.

"RUN!"

"Yes, a fairly good idea."

I grab Jexlan's hand and turn, running backwards to keep the angel in sight and to watch what goes on above me.

What is above me terrifies me possibly more than what is currently in front of the Tardis.

Above us, we can hear the cries. The Hall of History is crumbling. The ceiling caving in, crumbling beneath the onslaught of earth-shattering booms.

"EXTERMINATE!"

"RUN!" I yell, grabbing Jexlan's hand and hurling down the opposite side of the hall, away from the crumbling statues. Away from the Tardis and the Weeping Angel that is the Doctor.

"An attack!" yells Jexlan. "An attack, right here on our own city!"

BOOM!

"We've got to get out of here! Which way's the way out?" I yell at Jexlan.

"This way!" he yells, taking the lead.

We run down corridors, amidst the loud booms that are sometimes so loud and shattering they knock us off our feet. We scramble to run again, under constant threat from the cries of "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"

"Those are Daleks!" I yell as we run. "How can those be Daleks?"

"Just run!" says Jexlan.

We keep running, as fast as we can. There are a few near misses, the walls crumbling before us, and we pull back just in time. It's a maze, a race against the onslaught, until finally I spot daylight. We put on a burst of speed, as the whole structure shakes around us, threating to crumble any second and crush us to death under the rubble or trap us forever.

"EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"

Oh, and that, too.

"RUN!"

We scramble to the exit, hurtling out just in time, as the entrance collapses behind us.

"EXTERMINATE!"

I turn.

I see his skeleton before I hear his scream, and they both linger in my eyes and my ears.

"NO! JEXLAN!" I scream.

It's too late. He drops to his knees, exterminated.

The Daleks turn to me.

"EXTERMINATE!"

"No!" I scream, and I run.

I dive behind a statue, and the Dalek takes its head off.

There's a few moments of silence in which I stand, back pressed to the statue, terrified, hearts racing.

"YOU WILL COME WITH US." Says the Dalek.

"Like hell I will, mate!"

"YOU WILL COME WITH US," repeats the Dalek.

"Why?" I query.

Another moment of silence.

"YOU ARE THE COMPANION OF THE DOCTOR. YOU WILL BE HELD AS A HOSTAGE."

"Like hell!" I shout back, and I run.

"EXTERMINATE!"

I run across the street, diving away from the laser beams as they nip at my feet.

I run, diving behind houses and zig-zagging my way until the Daleks chase me no more.

I take a deep breath, and then observe my surroundings.

The whole city is covered in smoke, giant booms racking the ground. The sky has gone dark at noon, the suns obscured by the black smoke rising out of the air. In the distance I hear screams, and the sound of lasers, pierced by cries of "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"

Daleks. How can they be Daleks? How can Daleks be here? They haven't even been created yet.

There's only one, terrifying answer.

Time Travel.

I have to find the Doctor.

I sprint out from behind my hiding place, running through the streets, running as fast as my legs will carry me.

Problem is, I don't know where I'm going.

I can see the temple behind me sitting on a hill, a once majestic palace, now a crumbled ruin of debris. The TARDIS is in there, somewhere, but not my Doctor's TARDIS.

What do I tell the Doctor? What about the weeping angel, on the lose somewhere in the city?

"EXTERMINATE!" cries a Dalek in the distance.

Yes, perhaps now is not the time to speculate.

Ahead of me, I can see the giant pyramid that I saw when I first came in.

I sprint towards it, hiding behind buildings and keeping out of sight.

As I get nearer, there are more people, and I can hear more people dying and screaming.

And it hurts in a way I never even thought of before to not help them.

I have to find the Doctor.

I was born to save the Doctor.

And so I run.

"WE HAVE BEGUN OUR ATTACK."

"Good," replied Trexalore. "Within hours, the city will be ours. And this war will be no more. I will have this city."

"NO," said a Dalek, eyestalk sliding over to face Trexalore.

"What do you mean, no?" he said, angrily. "This is my city! This is my world!"

"NO!" shouted the Dalek. "YOU ARE UNNECESSARY. YOU WERE KEPT ALIVE TO BE USED AS AN INSTRUMENT. A MOUTHPIECE. A PUPPET. NOW, THIS WORLD WILL BE OURS. YOUR SPECIES WILL BE EXTERMINATED BEFORE THE CONTAMINATION SPREADS. THE DALEKS WILL BE THE ONLY LIFEFORMS IN EXISTENCE!"

"But…but…no!"

"EXTERMINATE HIM!"

Another Dalek aims it's weapon between Trexalore's eyes. And then it fires.

Coldly, without even acknowledging that it had just killed the leader of Trenzalore, the Dalek turned to the supreme Dalek.

"THE DOCTOR MUST BE FOUND AND EXTERMINATED," ordered the supreme Dalek.

"YES."

"SOON, THE DALEK RACE WILL ACHIEVE IT'S PLANS. ANY ATTEMPT ON THE PART OF THE DOCTOR TO STOP US WILL BE FUTILE. THIS RACE WILL FALL. THE DALEKS WILL BE SUPERIOR!"

"EXTERMINATE!" went up the battle cry. "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"
