Can you hear it? The clock in your head, synchronised with your heart, counting down the seconds. The seconds you have left to live, to be you. The seconds that count down to the moment when you have to face your fears and go into the forest. Can you hear it? It's counting for you, Harry Potter. The clock is only for you, and it's thundering in your ears-all you can hear is the clock. Seconds slip by as you sit in Dumbledore's office, Snape's office, and all you can think is that each breath you take brings you closer to the end. You know what you're doing, and it scares you.

You don't want to die, honestly you don't. But, then again, who ever wants to die? Certainly not Voldemort, which is why you're in this position in the first place. He's the reason you're saying good-bye to all your friends, silently, and you're heading out of the castle. There's no one with you, Harry Potter is all alone. That's how he wanted it-that's how you're ending it. Just you and him, even if he's got his Death Eaters with him, it's just you and him. That's how it ends. That's the only way; you have to die.

There are bodies everywhere, some much too young or too old; many, you don't recognise. A girl, crumpled on the ground-have you ever seen her before? A man, curled in on himself-did you ever say anything to him? Why are they here, these people? Why did they risk their lives, when everyone knew they would die? Since when had they gotten so reckless, these people who had cowered before him the first time. Was it because they had someone to stand behind? So many dead, and he's walking past them all, trying to keep the tears out of his eyes. They sting, and he hurts.

Ginny….Ginny, up ahead, holding a little girl's hand. Ginny, who looks beautiful and brave, covered in dirt and blood and sweat. Ginny, who is alive. Oh, Merlin. Your head spins and you want to throw up, but there's nothing to throw up, your stomach is empty. Harry Potter, moving to touch Ginny Weasley, to apologise for what you're about to do. But, no, she'll only talk you out of it. Better to just keep moving, better to just keep going, because today is the day you have to die. A prophecy decreed it before you were born-and now, you're just going along with it, because it's the only way.

You'll miss them. You truly will, as you take one last look at the castle. Surrounding you are your parents, and the people who have come the closest to being your father. Crazy, how you haven't known any of them too long, and yet, they helped shape you as a person. Mum, Dad, Remus, Sirius. They're all leading you to your death, and you walk in silence, knowing they're right there. But, there's more people than that pushing you-everyone who has died tonight, died in the past twenty years. Everyone still alive in the castle, they're all walking you to Voldemort, to the end.

This is the end. This is how you die; there will be stories about you, no doubt. Stories that say you were a brave, foolish young man who did many stupid things. This is stupid, but then again, we do stupid things for those we love. And those people you've left behind, you love each and every one of them. The ones you don't know, the ones you'll never meet; the ones you didn't know well enough. You're dying for all of them, and you hope they remember you as just someone who loved. Voldemort is standing in front of you, laughing and mocking, but you're ready. Ready to die. Ready….
