Tsuzuki felt today was different. His purple eyes darted to his left taking in Hisoka's slim form. The empath must have felt his gaze or sensed his emotions because he lifted his head from the paperwork stacked in front of him in favor at looking towards Tsuzuki.

Knowing he was caught, Tsuzuki gave him a grin and a small wave. Hisoka pursed his lips in annoyance before turning his attention back to work. Tsuzuki pouted, feeling rejected just from that one look. He doodled on a blank piece of paper before a shadow draped across his desk.

"Here," Tsuzuki looked up to see Hisoka handing him a wrapped sweet, "Wakaba asked me to give this to you."

"Oh, thank you, Hisoka!" he grinned happily and took the pro-offered dessert.

"Thank, Wakaba," Hisoka cleared his throat, "now stop day dreaming and get back to work."

Tsuzuki nodded, "Hisoka, what are you doing after work?"

Hisoka frowned, "Why do you want to know?"

"Well, there's this really nice eatery that opened just down the street, and I was wondering if you wanted to go?" Tsuzuki smiled at him.

Hisoka fidgeted, "I don't know..."

"I promise I'll be on my best behavior, and I won't stick you with the bill. Pretty please, Hisoka," the brown haired shinigami did his best watery, puppy-dog eyed impression.

The green eyed youth sighed, "Okay, but only if you finish your half of the paperwork. Deal?"

"Deal!" Tsuzuki chimed excitedly.

Hisoka shook his head as he walked back over to his desk.

As soon as it was time to leave, Tsuzuki rushed to meet with Hisoka outside under the cherry blossom trees.

"Sorry, Hisoka. Tatsumi cornered me in the hall," Tsuzuki smiled apologetically.

Hisoka shrugged, "What type of food does this place have?"

"I don't know," the elder laughed, leading his partner towards their destination.

"Then how do you know if it's any good?" Hisoka frowned up at him.

"Ah, well I just heard about it this morning," Tsuzuki gave him a lopsided grin, earning a blush from Hisoka who turned away.

"I see."

They continued their walk in companionable silence.

"What? They're closed!" wailed Tsuzuki.

Hisoka sighed in exasperation, "It's not a big deal."

"But this was my big chance to take you out on a date!" his shoulders slumped.

A soft intake of breath came from the blonde, "A date?"

Purple eyes widened almost comically, "Did I say that out loud?"

"You did."

The two guardians of death stared at each other for a brief moment.

Hisoka blushed under the scrutiny and he looked down at his feet.

"Listen, Hisoka, if you don't want to I understand. I just—"

"It's okay."

Tsuzuki stepped closer to the willowy frame beside him. The youth turned his emerald gaze upwards.

"I'm okay with dating you, Asato."

Tsuzuki's face split into such a heart warming smile, Hisoka felt himself blushing harder.

"May I hug you?"

A short nod and Hisoka felt a pair of strong arms wrap around his body and pull him close.

"Thank you, Hisoka. For everything."

In reply, Hisoka wrapped his arms around Tsuzuki and squeezed him tightly.
