The next day Miaka found herself going through the same routine. She came in earlier than she needed to avoid Gaara, and left as soon as she was allowed to. That evening she found herself walking towards the exit of the building when she heard her name being called.

"Miaka-san!" the purple haired girl looked over her shoulder to see a young woman that worked for Kankuro run towards her.

Strange…she thought with a slightly raised eyebrow. The girls that worked to Kankuro never talked to her; in fact they tended to ignore her. She believed that it was because most of them had a crush on the Kazekage, that and because she was basically still an outsider to them.

"Can I help you?" she asked the panting girl who held a hand, palm up, to her.

Miaka rested a hand on her hip and patiently waited for the young woman to catch her breath. She mused over her hair color, it being an auburn tone. Miaka tilted her head in thought…she always did like that color. Thoughts of the Kazekage came to mind and she immediately stopped herself.

"This is for you." The young woman handed Miaka a tan envelope.

Miaka flipped it over and found no address. "Ok…thank you." She turned on her heel ready to step out the door when the girl pulled her back by the elbow.

"I was told to tell you to open it immediately."

Miaka blinked a couple times and looked at the envelope. "All right, I will…as soon as I get home." She smiled and moved to turn away but again the woman stopped her.

"No, by immediately I mean right now."

Miaka sighed. She was tired and ready to take a warm shower and hop into bed and now she was being held up by one of Kankuro's crazy secretaries. With a small grunt she opened the envelope and took out the card. She glanced up at the young woman who stared at her intently. Turning back to the card she opened it and looked at its contents.

Go to your office.

Miaka frowned and flipped the card over but found it to contain nothing else. "Who gave you this?"

"I was instructed not to tell you." Was her reply from the serious secretary. "But I was told to tell you to do as the card says."

Miaka gaped at her. "Is this another one of Kankuro's pranks? Because if it is, I'm not amused."

The secretary shrugged and when she did not make a move to leave, Miaka frowned and made her way further into the building. She rounded the corner and began to climb the stairs. Through the windows one could see as the sun began to set. When she arrived to her office door she noticed that it was slightly ajar and that the lamp was on.

"Um…" she bit her lip and pushed the door open and gasped at what she saw. There was a vase filled with orchids on her dimly illuminated desk. Miaka blinked. "What…" the door swung shut behind her, making her jump.

From the corner of the room stepping out of the shadows was Gaara, arms crossed over his chest as he looked Miaka over. The girl looked around the room, then at him and frowned.

"What is all this, Kazekage-sama?"

Gaara narrowed his green eyes slightly but quickly did away with it. "Temari said you liked orchids."

"I do." She answered warily. "Kazekage-sama—"

"I believe I asked you to call me Gaara."

Miaka's eyes widened slightly. She shook her head and straightened out, standing her full height. "Kazekage-sama, thank you for the orchids, now I have to be leaving. Have a nice night." She turned to the door and tried to turn the knob but sand suddenly shot out of it causing her to stumble back.

Gaara caught her before she could hit herself with anything, noticing how his secretary tensed in his arms. Clearing her throat she pulled away from him and dusted her elf off.

"What is the meaning of this?" she asked through gritted teeth.

"You are upset with me. You've been upset with me for four days now."

Miaka crossed her arms. "And you thought buying me flowers was going to make me stop being angry at you?"

"I suppose it didn't work." Was his calm reply.

She put a hand to her forehead and sighed. "If you're trying to apologize, you're doing a horrible job."

It was Gaara's turn to cross his arms over his chest and look down at her. "I don't understand the reason for you to get angry. I won't apologize if I don't know what I'm apologizing for."

Miaka scoffed. "You're unbelievable..." she tilted her head up at him with narrowed hazel eyes. "You don't have any confidence in me! You wouldn't let me take a night shift because you think I'm weak and that I can't defend myself. Do you have any idea how insulting that is, coming from you!? My supposed trainer and boss!?"

Gaara looked at Miaka in understanding. He let his hands fall to his sides and gave her a curt nod. "I understand…and I apologize if it sounded as if I thought that you were defenseless. I was only looking out for you because that is what friends do for one another."

Miaka's hard gaze softened. "That's what you said…the first time you waited for me at the hospital." Gaara gave her one firm nod and turned to look out the window. The sun having finally set. "I suppose that I am the one that owes you an apology now."

Gaara looked down at Miaka with slight confusion.

"For acting so rude to you these past few days." She clarified a light blush dusting her cheeks.

"It's understandable." Gaara replied.

Miaka turned to her desk and smiled. "They're nice orchids…did Temari pick them out?"

"No. I did." the purple haired teen turned back to Gaara in surprise.

"O-oh!" The blush on her cheeks darkened as she looked down at her hands. Now she felt really embarrassed for acting like she did for four days straight. "Thank you, Gaara-kun." She said, smiling up at the redhead.

Gaara felt his heart rate increase and a warm feeling spread across his face. He cleared his throat and opened the door.

"Is it all right if I walk you home?"

Miaka looked at Gaara who had his face turned away from her. With a small smile she nodded.

"Yes, thank you." She turned off her desk lamp and walked out of the room, Gaara closing the door behind her.
