So, this little drabble was born thanks to dharmamonkey. I was on Twitter asking for prompts, and she responded with "Not a dharmasera prompt - but what if you wrote a piece about Buffy's or Angel's thoughts when he goes out to the boardwalk to find her in the middle of the ep "I Will Remember You"? AtS is obviously Angel-centric. It'd be interesting to see inside her head at that moment.". So, I rewatched the heartbreaking episode and came up with this little drabble. Thank you, Monkey! :-)

Now, read and enjoy.

What Do You Want

Buffy stood on the pier, admiring the water. She didn't know whether or not she should go back to Angel's office. It would be hard to say goodbye again, even if nothing had happened. She still loved him. She was his girl, always. It didn't matter if they would never be together again. She sighed, wondering what her sixteen year old self had seen in Angel. Then she snorted. It didn't take long before she became aware of her attraction to him. He was drop dead gorgeous. Of course she fell in love with him. He was sweet and compassionate, loving and brave. He was noble to a fault, and he made her feel happy. He was her anchor, her rock, for when things got rough.

She knew she would say goodbye. It didn't matter how upset she was with him for coming to Sunnydale. She had to see him, hear his voice, and look into his warm, golden chocolate brown eyes again. She knew that she would never be able to forget what they shared, but perhaps a time would come when they could be together.

As that thought entered her head, she felt a tingling sensation in her stomach. Like she had told Angel, she could always feel him, on the inside. And, her Angel-Sense was going haywire. But, it was daytime, and she was outside. She turned around, and he stepped from the shadows into the light.

Her breath caught and her heart skipped a beat. His soulful, warm, golden chocolate brown eyes were so alive as they locked with hers. He was human. It was their time. They could be together. They could make each other happy.

His lips found hers, and any doubts that she had vanished. She kissed him back with reckless abandon. Her heart swelled as she felt the love and happiness in his soul. She ran her hand up his arm, stopped at his shoulder, and then wrapped her arms around his neck.

It was probably the best kiss they'd ever shared. It was one that held everything their souls could bare and the promise of their future. And Buffy couldn't help but look forward to it. She loved this vampire-turned-human with her whole heart, and she would stand by him for the rest of her life.

"I love you, Angel," she whispered as they broke apart.

"I love you, too. Always," he replied tenderly, his voice hoarse.

Buffy smiled, and she reached up to put her hand on his cheek, admiring the sun in his hair and the way that his eyes shone with happiness. She wanted this to be a permanent thing. She wanted this life.

So, there it is. I hope you liked. Leave a review. :-)
