Chapter 1

May 2nd, 1998

5:38 PM

The two curses met, battling each other for the upper hand.

Good vs. Evil.

Light vs. Dark.

Harry Potter vs. Lord Voldemort.

Each person's loyal followers watched anxiously from the sides as the two fought to the death. In a moment of triumph, the red spell overpowered the green curse and the Dark Lord crumpled down, as he screamed in agony. The Death Eaters, shocked at watching their leader die, quickly fled the scene to avoid getting caught.

But they fled too soon.

The body of the Dark Lord began to glow and morph itself into another shape. Dark robes collapsed on top of the body. Everyone stared as the robes began to move. They all watched and waited for the worst to happen. Instead, the head of a 17-year-old Tom Riddle emerged. The room was silent, all except one Ronald Weasley, who voiced everyone's thoughts.

"Bloody hell."

5:39 PM

Tom Riddle was very confused.

One moment, he was walking through the halls of Hogwarts on patrol. Now, groups of horrendously dressed men and women stared down at him as he lay on the floor of Hogwarts's Great Hall. Nobody in the crowd looked remotely familiar to him in any way. He caught the eye of a young, black-haired witch. Her green eyes widened from shock as she rushed out of the Great Hall. A petite blond girl followed behind her.

A ginger wizard in the front of the crowd exclaimed, "Bloody hell."

In a short moment, Riddle was bound through a string of magical spells and dragged up to the Headmaster's office. He would have protested, but a silencing spell was placed upon him. The wizards sat him down in a chair and shoved a glass of Vertiserum down his throat. The Silencing spells were removed from Riddle and he began to protest, "Who are you? What are you doing to me? Why have you taken me here?"

The two men ignored his questions and left the room. Riddle was only alone for a few seconds because as soon as the two wizards left, an old witch entered the room. She looked just as tired as everyone else that Riddle had seen, but there was something else hidden in her eyes – hope.

"Mr. Riddle," the witch began.

"Why am I tied up? Who are you?" he demanded.

"I know you are probably very confused about what is happening," the witch said calmly. "Please allow me to ask you a few questions and then I assure you that all of yours will be answered as well."

"Very well," Riddle sighed.

"Thank you," the old witch replied. "What year is it?"

"What is the last thing you remember?"

"I was switching patrols with the Head Girl, Melanie Undergate, and I was making my way to the Head Common Room." But not all of that was true. Riddle could remember snippets, small images of war and death. He saw a baby boy with a lightning scar on his head, a skull with a snake coming out of its mouth, and a girl with pair of cold green eyes that hid lies. The same girl he made eye contact with in the Great Hall. Something seemed familiar about her, but he did not know anything about her. He didn't even know her name.

The elder woman continued to ask him questions about things such as Death Eaters and Voldemort's, but nothing sounded relatively normal. It was as if she spoke a foreign language that Riddle was supposed to know.

The woman sighed and stared at a large portrait. It contained a single chair but unlike all the other paintings in the room, did not contain a person. She looked up at the empty painting and sighed, "Oh, Dumbledore. What should I do?"

As he expected, the painting remained silent. The witch turned back to Riddle and explained, "I believe it is time to answer some of your questions. My name is Minerva McGonagall and I am the new Headmistress of Hogwarts."

"What happened to the last headmaster?" Riddle inquired.

"The last two died," McGonagall answered. "This may come as a shock to you, but it is not 1943. The year is 1998 and the darkest wizard of all time was just defeated after a long, hard war."

"What does any of this have to do with me?" Riddle demanded.

"Patience, boy!" McGonagall scolded. In a calmer voice she continued, "Lord Voldemort first rose to power in the 70s. He killed any person with Muggle blood or any who opposed him. He gathered hundreds, even thousands, of followers and they called themselves the Death Eaters. There was a prophecy, foretelling that a boy born at the end of July would cause the decline of Voldemort. Voldemort sought out the boy, Harry Potter. He murdered his father and was going to murder Harry and leave his mother, Lily, alive for unknown reasons. But Lily Potter begged Voldemort to take her instead of her only son. Voldemort obliged and killed poor Lily Potter. He proceeded to try and kill Harry, but the curse rebounded and ended up killing him instead. Little Harry was left with only a lightning bolt scar."

"Why are you telling me this?" Riddle questioned.

"Wait until the end of the story!" McGonagall snapped once more. "Where was I? Oh yes, Harry was left with a lightning scar. After Voldemort's defeat, the Wizarding World rejoiced, but little did they know that the dark wizard was not dead. He had created Horcruxes. A person creates a Horcrux by splitting his soul and hiding it in an object, so that he can never truly die. Voldemort had created seven Horcruxes, actually eight since Harry turned out to be one as well. The late Headmaster, Dumbledore…"

"As in Professor Dumbledore? The Transfiguration teacher?" Riddle interrupted.

"The very same. Now you wanted answers so let me finish my tale."

"My apologies, ma'am."

"Thank you. The late headmaster, Dumbledore, Harry, and his two friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, worked to find and destroy all the Horcruxes. They were successful in destroying all the Horcruxes and Harry was able to defeat Lord Voldemort. But then something odd happened. The body of the dead dark wizard began to glow. When the light dimmed, his 17 year old self was in his place. Tom," McGonagall said slowly. Riddle flinched slightly at the use of his first name, "you are Lord Voldemort."

Riddle didn't know what to say, much less think. He always knew that he hated Muggles and Muggleborns, but he never dreamt of going as far as trying to commit genocide. His brow furrowed. He had always wanted his name to be remembered in history, but not as a mass murderer. This Lord Voldemort must have been persuasive if so many people rallied behind him. Secretly, Riddle felt disgusted in his fellow wizards. We were meant to preserve the Wizarding race, not murder each other.

At that moment, loud shouts could be heard from outside the office doors. The green eyed witch that Riddle felt the connection with rushed through the doors with two wizards behind her. One of the guards said, "I am sorry, Headmistress, but she fought her way in."

Riddle was shocked that this mysterious girl was able to take on two fully grown men by herself. McGonagall sighed. "Adalyn Audet, what is the meaning of this?"

"I have a letter!" this girl, Audet exclaimed. "I have a letter from Professor Dumbledore!"

01/18/16 - There we have it! The first chapter of the rewritten story. I will try to update every Monday and Friday. Maybe I'll add some extra days in there depending on my school schedule. Who knows?

Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the story. If you do, please R&R! It makes my little writer heart swell up with joy when you do!
