Meztli had been glowing. Everyone who worked alongside her noticed the young woman's smile was more cheerful. She couldn't help it; she was going to marry the man who changed her life for the better. Nothing was planned yet, but she couldn't help but picture her dress and setting. She wanted something simple. Elaborate weddings weren't her thing; instead she preferred something on a smaller scale.

Two arms wrapped around her waist, her guard went down and she relaxed in his arms.

"I still can't believe that we met because the human race was facing extinction." Before she could respond he continued to speak.

"Can you imagine telling our kids the story of how we met?" Raleigh kept a lot to himself most of the time, but only she witnessed his rare moments of vulnerability. She knew Raleigh longed to have a family of his own now. It dawned upon her that he was 31. It was a great age to become a father. She didn't realize she had been deep in her thoughts until he turned her around and she stared into his blue eyes.

"You want to have children don't you?" Raleigh's expression softened and he awaited Meztli's answer anxiously.

"Of course I do…but we haven't even set a wedding date." She stood on her tiptoes and gave him a peck on the lips. She was going to move away from him, but he pulled her closer to him quickly; almost with a hint of desperation. Raleigh wanted to have a sense of normalcy, but being in the Shatterdome required Meztli and him to remain professional. She moved her hands up to his chest and looked up at him. Raleigh was impulsive and she was the complete opposite. She pulled away slowly, and grabbed his hand forcing him to follow her to the small couch in her office. Raleigh noticed she was wearing his sweater and it was clearly oversized. He couldn't help but smirk at how good his girl looked in it.

"I was unaware that my closest was your clothing store now." She turned to face a playful Raleigh.

"I was cold…I think your future wife can grab one of your signature sweaters to keep warm." He raised his eyebrow at her, and he noticed the glimmer in her eyes. Raleigh picked her up and placed her on the couch tickling her. Her laugh began filling the usually quiet office. When he finally stopped Meztli took a minute to regain her composure. She looked up at Raleigh and cupped his face. Their foreheads were touching and she closed her eyes. Meztli was good at taking in the moment and his emotions. He was calm, but there was longing stirring within him. Raleigh knew her definition of intimacy was different. As cocky as it sounded he was used to woman throwing themselves on him, but Meztli took things slowly. She was willing to look past the physical. She saw his naked soul and loved every flaw it had. That's what made their connection so strong. Her scent was beginning to intoxicate him and he moved his lips closer to hers. She opened her eyes at his movement; one last look and both their lips connected.

It was proving difficult for Raleigh to control himself around her. He knew well that Meztli didn't want to take it further just yet, and that was another thing he admired about her. He got up and sat down on the couch while Meztli placed her head on his lap and stretched her legs.

"I'd really love to have a boy first." A smile graced her face. She looked up at him. Seeing his expression was priceless. Before he could actually respond, there was a knock on her office door. He wanted to groan in annoyance, but he knew better. Meztli quickly got up and adjusted her sweater. She was technically off-duty now, but if people needed her she would get up and help. Meztli opened her door and was greeted by the warm smile of her brother. She jumped up and gave him a welcoming hug. When they parted she hugged Mako who was right beside him. Alex ruffled her hair and noticed Raleigh was inside her office.

"Welcome back! I hope you guys had an amazing time!" Meztli looked to Mako and Alex.

"We sure did! Anything new happen?" Alex looked to Mako and kissed her forehead and then faced Meztli and Raleigh. Meztli smiled at the couple and it dawned upon her that she hadn't told him about the engagement yet. Raleigh had a playful smile on his face.

"Expect a little nephew soon Alex." Alex raised his eyebrow at Raleigh and his jaw stiffened as he looked at Meztli's stomach. He moved closer to Raleigh.

"Excuse me." Alex said. Meztli knew Alex was not fond of this and went in between him and Raleigh.

"Not quite. Relax Alex, he was joking." He glared at Raleigh for a bit and then looked down at his sister.

"But…uh… you could possibly be an uncle in the near future." She lifted up her hand to show him her engagement ring. Alex stood in shock, but recomposed himself when Mako hugged Meztli.

"I was waiting for this to happen! I'm so happy for you two." Mako said while wrapping her arm around Alex's waist.

"Well…uh that sure is big news. Meztli, why didn't you tell me before?" Meztli shook her head and gave her brother a light punch in the arm.

"I wanted to tell you in person silly!" His serious demeanor still remained, but he turned to Raleigh.

"That's my sister. You better treat her right…or else." Raleigh held back his laughter; looking down at Meztli and then back at Alex.

"She deserves nothing less."

After the two couples returned from dinner they went back to their rooms to ensure they'd get a good night's rest. Tomorrow Meztli would work on some Jaegers and contact more countries to see how they were progressing. Raleigh accompanied Meztli back to her room. They walked in silence, once they reached her room she opened the door and they both entered. She removed her coat and bag and placed them in her closet.

"Raleigh, you should try getting some sleep tonight." Raleigh shook his head and chuckled.

"You know very well sleep and I don't get along." She looked at him sympathetically.

"I'll make us some tea." She quickly went over to her cupboard and grabbed chamomile tea bags and then filled two mugs with hot water. She walked into her room and changed into comfortable sweats and a white t-shirt. Meztli came out to see Raleigh sitting on her small couch. She was starting to feel tired, but she wanted Raleigh to relax. Coming up behind him on the couch she began to play with his hair. He began to lean in closer to her touch. She planted soft kisses on his head and then leaned down to kiss his cheek. Meztli could feel him shiver slightly. She sometimes found it hard to believe she could have this effect on Raleigh. Raleigh was beginning to relax, but her warmth left him when she went to get the mugs. She asked Raleigh to scoot over and handed him his tea. She was facing him on the opposite side of the couch.

As she took a sip of her tea, she noticed Raleigh began drinking his own. She smiled at him. Who would've thought she'd be the one to get past Raleigh's walls.

"Mez, you should get some rest. I can tell you're tired." He noticed her yawn and placed his tea down. He got up and went to scoop Meztli up.

"Raleigh!" She began hitting his chest lightly. He placed her down gently on her bed. Staring into her warm eyes, he gave her a light peck. Raleigh was about to leave, but Meztli grabbed his hand.

"Do you want to stay here tonight?" Without hesitation Raleigh removed his sweater and remained in his white shirt. She patted the side next to her and he joined her. Meztli grabbed the blankets and tossed them over herself and Raleigh.

"Try to get some sleep please." Raleigh simply looked at her sleepy figure and nodded his head. He then felt Meztli's head on his chest and she was curled up next to him. As she closed her eyes he kissed her forehead and then wrapped his arm around her.

"This is going to be my life after we get married." Thoughts of them moving away from Hong Kong and maybe back to the States were on his mind. He imagined his son and daughter running in the backyard. They'd grow up in a better world. One thing is for sure he wouldn't abandon his children like his father did.

Raleigh was just beginning to feel drowsy, when he felt Meztli stirring beside him. A look of discomfort was on her face. He was going to adjust himself when she quickly shot up. She was breathing heavily and stared at the wall.

Meztli began to take in her surroundings and began to calm down. When she felt a hand touch her shoulder she flinched involuntarily. She turned to see a concerned Raleigh.

"How did I forget he was here?"

"Meztli, are you feeling okay?" She looked at him and nodded her head slowly.

"It was just a bad dream. Nothing more. I'm sorry I woke you up." Raleigh knew this wasn't any old nightmare.

"Do you want to talk about it? It helps." Meztli shook her head. She glanced at her clock and noticed she had two more hours to sleep.

She plopped her head back down on the pillow and Raleigh noticed she had moved away from him slightly. Meztli closed her eyes and tried to force herself to go back to sleep. That and she wanted to prevent Raleigh from asking more questions. Raleigh looked at her one more time and then turned his back to her.

"I really wish she wasn't so stubborn sometimes."
