But it was smothered by his heart's pounding in anxiety (he couldn't tell her) in desperation (he couldn't lose her) and then in exultation (he couldn't stop kissing her). Nico pulled back and promised to explain everything, knowing what he was risking: loss of Dallas and freedom. Nico surrendered again to her lips, knowing he would never abandon her for the empty comfort of warmer climes, nor could he have freedom. He gratefully belonged to her.
