I was sad to see I didn't get many comments on the last chapter so I hope I get more on this one! (hint-hint-wink-wink)
After the Malfoy's had made peace with the remaining members of the Black family they had moved forward and apologized to the Weasley's and Harry knowing that with Hermione's Soul Bonding they would be seeing the red headed family a lot. Narcissa was determined to bring her family together and not let there be hate within them any more. After some rather tense few moments they seemed to be able to move on and form a tentative relationship. Draco and Harry were surprisingly able to form some sort of friendship that started with some Quidditch talk about the different teams. Arthur had gone and shown Lucius all the Muggle devices he found over the years which had then intrigued the blond wizard. Molly and Narcissa had then bonded over motherhood and cooking, which had been surprising to find that Narcissa loved to cook. Soon the women had started trading recipes.
Hermione smiled as she sat back on the couch between her two men a book in her hands as she watched as the Malfoy's and the Weasley's got along. "What's that you got there Mi?" Fred asked as he wrapped an arm around her.
"Draco and I were talking the other day and he gave me this book. He said it'll give me some information about the Soul Bonds." she said.
George smiled as he took the book from her and flipped through the pages. "This looks like it's got plenty more information than the one we have." he said.
Harry and Draco moved into the living room and took seats around the room. "So where's the Weasel? Haven't seen him since we've been here." Draco asked.
Hermione looked down at her hands as the other members of the room tensed. "He's at St. Mungo's." she whispered. "He didn't take the news of our Soul Bonding very well and then not long later when we came back for dinner one night he attacked me and we found out that someone had been slipping him some potion."
George wrapped an arm around her waist and gave her a light squeeze. "Mum says that they were able to identify the potion that was used, a potion that amplified his anger for a specific person."
"Now it's just a matter of flushing out the potion and giving him the counter one so that he can go back to his old self." Fred said.
Draco nodded in thought. "I wonder who could have given him the potion. Most of the Death Eaters have been rounded up and anyway they wouldn't go through all this trouble to get to you so soon after the war, that or they're too stupid to pull this off themselves."
Hermione nodded as she brushed her hair out of her face. "That's what I was thinking too but other than that I can't seem to think of anyone else that would do this."
Draco looked at the two men that sat on either side of his cousin. "Do either of you have any enemy's?"
"No." they shook their heads. "We've made peace with all the Slytherins that hated us and are actually good friends with a couple of them."
"Any crazy ex's?" Harry asked.
Both thought for a second. "Not that we know of." they said after a minute.
"Dinner!" Molly called.
Talk of who could have poisoned Ron was put aside in favor of seeing to their stomachs.
Those that are Spirit Bonded have the ability to reach into their partners, or partners in the case of Triads, and use the others magic in extreme cases. In the more powerful Bonds the the witch/wizards have been known to gain extra ability depending on the personality of the person. One wizard was documented to be able to phase through solid objects. Most have decided to keep their power a secret as many evil forces have tried to use them for their own purposes.
In the Wizarding World once a bond is consummated they are already married. In modern society it is a private affair between those to be bonded however in the Age of Merlin it was done in front of their family and friends. This practice has been lost however do to the changes in society. Now those that have been Spirit Bound participate in the Handfasting Ceremony as way of showing their being brought together.
Hermione stared down at the book and leaned back on the couch. Thank Merlin that practice has been lost. she thought before shaking her head and going back to her reading.
When those that were bonded were asked they were reluctant to speak about their bonds as it is a private matter between them and their partner(s). However they did say that once their bond had been consummated they had felt safer, more complete, and happier. One woman, who was a muggleborn witch, said that she had been scared and reluctant to do this because of the way she had been raised but once she had been with her Wizards she had never felt so whole and loved in her whole life. "To be bonded," she said "is to be loved fully and unconditionally. There is no feeling that compares to it and it makes you feel like you belonged."
Triad Bonds have become much more common in recent years with the birth of more twins. It is possible for a Triad to be formed without twins however it is not as common. Triads are the most powerful with there being more people in the bond. For this reason they have been know to be in great danger if they have not completed their Bonding. This is when they are most vulnerable as they are unable to call on each other when there is danger. A completed Triad has the potential to be very powerful and help stop wars.
Closing the book Hermione set it on the table. "Wow." she breathed as she looked down at the book. Maybe this explained why someone had slipped Ron that potion. It made sense, especially it being so soon after the fall of Voldemort. Someone could be trying to start up his beliefs again and so was trying to get rid of the three of them so that there would be one less obstacle in their way.
"What's got you thinking so hard?" Fred asked as he came into the flat.
"I just read the book that Draco gave me." she said. "It's got a lot of information in it and three of us really need to talk."
He glanced down at his watch. "George is finishing up with a few customers and should be up in about an hour. How about I go and pick up some take-away for dinner?" Hermione smiled at him and nodded. He kissed her softly before getting up and heading out. She in the mean time went into the bathroom to shower.
As she washed her unruly hair she thought about what she had learned from the book. If they didn't complete the bond they would remain vulnerable to whatever was happening. Not that she would only do...you know that to keep them alive but because she loved them. She loved them with all her heart and she wanted to be with them. Truly be with them. In everything that she had read about those that had been Soul Bonded they had fallen even deeper into love. They could feel each other even more than they already did and the bound only brought them closer. The more she thought about it the more she felt better about being with them. "There is no feeling that compares to it and it makes you feel like you belonged." That line fluttered through her mind and she felt her heart warm at the thought of it. Ever since she had been with Fred and George she had felt so loved and things for seemed to be getting better. She found that while she had lost her mum and dad, she had another father who did love her and would do anything for her. She had never felt so safe or protected as she did when she was with them. While she could most certainly protect herself it was nice to know they were there to catch her when she fell.
So now the question was, what was holding her back? The answer to that was simple. She was afraid of getting her heart broken. Thinking back on all the times she spent with them she felt silly for thinking that. She felt silly for thinking that they would ever hurt her. She knew they loved her. Just as she loved them.
That thought in mind she stepped out of the shower and dried off. She wouldn't hold back. Not anymore she wanted to be with them and she would be.
Once Hermione had dressed and fixed her hair she went back into the living room where she cleared up the parchment with her notes on it off of the coffee table. She figured they'd be more comfortable sitting out there eating then eating at the dinner table. The parchement and book she put together and placed on the bookshelf that the boys had bought for her that was up against the one wall. She would take them down when they needed them.
She heard the door open and then a second later arms wrapped around her waist and a pair of lips on her neck. "Hhm you smell good." George whispered.
Hermione smiled. "Thank you." she turned in the circle of his arms and kissed him. "Everything ok down at the shop?"
He nodded. "Yeah just had to help someone with their Pygmy Puff. Fred said you had some information that you read about in that book that you wanted to talk about."
"Yeah. I think it might help us with whoever it is that poisoned Ron. I'll show you my notes and everything after we eat."
The door opened and in walked Fred carrying a large bag of take-away from one of the Chinese places. "How much did you get?" Hermione asked as she stared at the very large bags he carried. There was no way that they would be able to eat all of that.
"Just enough for us." Fred said with a cheeky grin.
"More like a small army." she muttered as she went and got paper plates for them while they set out the food.
"What do you two want to drink?" she called as she pulled down the paper plates from the cabinet.
"Beer!" they both called. Hermione smiled and pulled two bottles of beer out of the refrigerator and poured herself a glass of wine. Levitating the beer behind her she picked up the plates and napkins and carried her glass out to the living room. "So Mi you said you read some interesting things in that book?" Fred asked as he plucked the beers out of the air and handed one to George.
Hermione sat down between them "It was mostly about the bond and how it affects people. It went a little bit into the ceremony's that were held back in the Age of Merlin." she felt her cheeks heating up slightly at what the book said.
"Oh." they said with raised eyebrows. Both intrigued by the lovely scarlett that their Hermione had gone. "And what did it say?"
"It talked about how those that were Spirit Bound use to consummate their bond in front of their family and friends. That it was basically a marriage much like a regular marriage back then." she said as she felt her face flame even brighter.
"Well it's a good thing that practice is out of date." George said.
"Because we don't intend on sharing you with anyone." Fred finished.
Hermione shook her head as she took a sip of her wine. "Well that's not all it said. It spoke briefly about how we could gain special abilities, much like the book you told be about so that's not new. It also mentioned that any people have been killed to break apart Triads because they're so powerful. It made me think that maybe the person that slipped Ron he potion did it to some how get between us. To try and stop us from completing the bond so that we're out of the way. Maybe we were wrong before. Maybe it is one of Voldemort's followers that's trying to take front and continue what he started."
"Makes sense." George said.
"What do you think we should do Mi?" Fred asked.
She was quiet for a moment. Then. "We have to complete the bond."
