It happened all too fast. He didn't understand how it came down to this. He never felt anymore helpless then at that moment. One second he was focusing on keeping Pitch Black at bay. Then the next, he heard her shout out his name before he felt himself being shoved harshly to the ground.

Jack looked up in time to meet her eyes just as it happened. Rapunzel had been struck. At that moment, there was still silence. Slowly, Rapunzel broke eye contact with Jack to look down at her chest. Jack followed her gaze and he felt a lump go into his throat at what he saw. A sharp black arrow was sticking through her chest and it seemed dangerously close to her heart.

Rapunzel looked back at Jack, her green eyes meeting his blue ones, "J-Jack…" she only managed to say before she began to fall forward.

"Rapunzel!" Jack shouted with all his might and he rushed up to catch her before she fell to the hard ground.

After Rapunzel had been hit, their friends, North, Bunny, Tooth, Sandy, Hiccup, and Merida all gave a union war cry before they lunged straight at Pitch. The Boogieman laughed evilly, "I wasn't expecting that twist, but it must hurt to see the one you love slowly die does it not?" He asked coldly.

Jack ignored Pitch. He ignored his friends fighting to stop Pitch. He ignored everything completely. His attention was only on her. He held her close and could see the black arrow had faded since it was made only out of black sand.

"Rapunzel, Punz, just hang in there. You're going to be okay!" Jack said as he gathered Rapunzel's long hair and tried to cover the bleeding wound.

Rapunzel merely tried to keep her eyes open. She whispered something but it was too low for Jack to make out. He could see her spring eyes were beginning to fade. Seeing her like this was breaking his heart. Before he could even move to do anything else, he heard a large crash. He held Rapunzel close as he felt debris come flying at his face. He felt a hand go on his shoulder and he looked to meet Hiccup's concerned dark green eyes.

"Here, Jack, North told me to give this to you. You need to get Rapunzel back to the North Pole." Hiccup held out one of the snow globes. Jack took it and he looked back up at the smaller boy,

"But what about you?"

"Don't worry about us. We can handle Pitch." Hiccup said and Jack could see how angry he was right now. Jack would have loved to stay and give Pitch a piece of his own mind but Rapunzel's life was slipping.

"Good luck, Hic." Jack said as he gripped the globe.

Toothless let out a growl to let his master know that they had to get going. Without another word, Hiccup turned and got on his dragon. Jack picked up Rapunzel, and silently thanked her hair was very light, and made way to get back to the pole. Before he could move another inch, something black went past his cheek that it barely touched him. He looked in the direction and saw Pitch smirking at him. It was clear his nightmares were able to distract the other Guardians right now.

"You brought this on yourself, Jack Frost. As I always said, you make a mess everywhere you go. You do nothing but ruin other people's lives, even someone as innocent as your lovely Spring spirit. It's a shame she was still willing to even save your life." Pitch said unforgivingly and Jack's blue eyes narrowed. Despite of how much he hated him, his words had a sense of truth that it hurt the winter youth.

"Ye shut yer mouth!" Merida suddenly said as she took aim and her arrow went sailing until it hit Pitch in the arm.

He cried out in pain and anger before he sent black sand straight for the summer spirit. She managed to dodge and seeing this, Jack managed to take aim with his staff and send a wave of ice straight at Pitch. This made the Boogieman go sailing backwards.

"North Pole." Jack whispered into globe and hit it to the ground. The portal appeared and before he stepped through, he glanced back.

"Go, Jack! Take care of Rapunzel!" Tooth assured him.

Knowing he could trust his friends, Jack nodded and he glanced down at Rapunzel. She looked on the brink of slipping away. Holding her even closer, he jumped into the portal. He seemed unaffected by the ride. He managed to land on his back and he heard shuffling. The yetis and elves stared in surprise and Jack said,

"Please, help me get her to bed."

Without another word, the yetis and elves made way to do just that. They helped Jack get Rapunzel into one of the guest bedrooms of the Russian palace. Jack had not spoken another word during the whole thing. He was worried for his friends, but he knew in the back of his mind they could handle Pitch. Right now, he focused on helping Rapunzel.

Despite it being only a few minutes, it felt like an eternity to the winter spirit. The yetis did what they could to help bandage Rapunzel's wound, but it seemed clear that she lost a lot of blood and Pitch's aim might have been accurate. She was getting weaker. Finally, Phil patted Jack on the shoulder and mumbled something.

Jack shook his head and tried hard not to cry. He sat beside Rapunzel and placed his hand on the side of her cheek. He just couldn't understand. They had been through so much and he was even going to ask her something really important.

"Punz…Rapunzel…" Jack whispered as he gazed down at her.

Rapunzel let out a soft groan before she managed to open her eyes, "Jack?" Her sweet voice sounded hoarse and Jack's heart wrenched.

"Yeah, I'm here, Punz." He said and tried to smile but was failing.

"I'm…I'm glad you're okay." She said softly.

"And you're going to be okay too, Punzie." Jack added even though he knew what he said was a lie.

Rapunzel seemed to know too for she smiled weakly and said, "Jack, just promise me one thing…"

"No, don't talk like that."

"Please just promise me one thing…" She said again and despite her getting weaker, she managed to say it in more firm voice.

Jack gulped and his eyes on the brink of tears, he asked gently, "What?"

"Promise me to keep smiling…and…have fun…" She said as she managed to hold up her hand to Jack's cheek and rubbed it.

"I…"

"Promise."

Jack sighed and slowly nodded while he took her hand into his own, "Sure, Punz. I promise."

"Thank you, Jack…I…" she made a small gasp that Jack frowned, "I love…you…"

"I love you too, Rapunzel." Jack chocked and before he knew it, Rapunzel's eyes started to close, "Rapunzel?" Her faint smile faded and her eyes closed completely. Her head went to the side and she let out her last breath, "Rapunzel? Rapunzel! No!"

Jack leaned down and hugged her close. This can't be happening, no it can't. Finally, tears started to leak out his eyes. Jack hadn't cried in such a long time. And now he let it out. He didn't know why it had to be her. He wished it was him since that arrow was supposed to be for him. Pitch was right all along. He messed up everything. And now the girl he had loved for years was gone.

"Rapunzel I am so sorry." Jack said with tears falling from his eyes and on to Rapunzel. He closed his eyes and he began to sing the song she had taught him whenever she felt down.

"Flower, gleam and glow

Let your power shine

Make the clock reverse

Bring back what once was mine

Heal what has been hurt

Change the fate's design

Save what has been lost

Bring back what once was mine

What once was mine…"

Once he was done singing, he leaned down and kissed Rapunzel on the lips. He then moved to hug her close. He held her for who knows how long. It seemed forever.

Then…something tremendous happened…

Jack thought he saw a faint glow through his closed eyelids. He opened his eyes and saw Rapunzel's hair glowing. He stared in surprise and felt something overcome him as well. He put his hands to his eyes and saw that his tears were glowing silver. This had never happened before. A light of gold and silver started to dance all around Jack and Rapunzel.

The winter youth could only watch in utter amazement and he saw that the wound on Rapunzel's chest was disappearing as well as the blood. Finally, the lights faded away and Jack shook his head. He didn't know what had happened. The yetis and elves that had been in the room were too shocked to even move. There was movement coming from Rapunzel. It was faint, but Jack gaped down. Could it be true?

Rapunzel's eyes started to flicker open and she looked directly into Jack's eyes, "Jack?" she whispered.

"Rapunzel?" Jack asked to make sure he wasn't dreaming. That the fact she was breathing and alive.

"I…what happened? I thought…"she began but she was cut off by Jack hugging her close, "Jack?"

"I thought I lost you." He said with a weak laugh. Rapunzel slowly smiled and hugged him back. After a moment, Jack backed up and gave her a kiss much to her surprise. The elves began to dance while the yetis smiled.

Rapunzel leaned away from the kiss and she gave him a smile, "But I don't get it. What happened?"

"I…I don't know to be honest. I sang that song you taught me and then lights of gold and silver that came from both of us surrounded us." Jack said as he remembered what had happened. He still didn't understand on why that went on.

Rapunzel quirked an eyebrow and before she can ask, the door to the room burst open, "Jack! We came as fast as we…Punzie!" Merida said and she rushed over. She shoved Jack aside and hugged her spring friend.

"Gee thanks, Merida." Jack sighed but he smiled all the same.

Hiccup, North, Bunny, Tooth, and Sandy too came into the room. And of course Toothless, "Punz, you're okay?" Hiccup asked with a relieved smile.

"Yeah! Thanks to Jack!" Rapunzel said with a wide grin.

"Jack?" Merida asked.

"Seriously?" Bunny questioned as he was equally confused.

Jack rolled his eyes but explained on what had happened. North gave a knowing smile, "But of course," the others looked at him in confusion, "This only proves further that Jack and Rapunzel are meant to be with each other. They may be considered opposites, but they do need each other to balance the other out. Manny has told me of this because after all, because you Jack represent the moon and Rapunzel represent the sun. I think Manny and his sister the sun were willing to give you two another try to be together forever."

Rapunzel had to smile at this while Jack felt a blush rise on his cheeks. This certainly explained a few things. For the next few minutes, while Rapunzel was being looked over, Hiccup told Jack that Pitch had once again managed to escape. This made the winter spirit grit his teeth.

"But don't worry, we will be prepared for him right?" Hiccup said with a determined grin.

Jack sighed before he nodded at his friend. Finally, the Guardians left Jack and Rapunzel alone. He sat by her side and she seemed ready to be on her feet again, "Punz, I might as well ask you something before anything happens or I lose my chance." Jack said with a sigh and Rapunzel glanced over at him.

"What? What is it?" Rapunzel questioned and he looked away while rubbing his hair.

"To tell you the truth, I was sure that I lost you and that I…well, lost my chance to ask you this for a long time now." Jack explained and he was starting to feel more and more flustered with each passing second.

"Jack, what is it?" Rapunzel leaned over and placed her hand on the side of his face to have him turn toward her. Spring green eyes meeting cerulean blue ones.

Jack gulped and said in a low voice, "Rapunzel Solar, I have loved you for a long time. For as long as I can remember and I wanted to know if you would…" he trailed off and Rapunzel's eyes grew wider then they usually were, "If you would…I mean, will you marry me?"

Heavy silence before Rapunzel smiled widely, "Yes!" Jack jumped a little from her outburst but he smiled, "Yes I will Jack Frost!" She flung forward and wrapped her arms around his neck.

He laughed before hugging her close. And then they kissed with moon shining down on them. Despite the terrible thing that nearly ripped the two lovers apart, happiness and love managed to keep them together.
