Wings-Chapter Six

The cost of making only the maker knows,

Valueless if bought, but sometimes traded.

A poor man may give one as easily as a king.

When one is broken pain and deceit are assured.

Poland, Europe

A joyful laugh ushered form a forsaken beauty's lips as she jollily tossed a small red head kit up in the air of there small but cozy burrow.

"Again Kaa-san! Again!" Shippo squealed as he bounced on her lap.

Kagome chuckled, amused at the small boy's pleads as she cradled them in her oak wood rocking chair.

She was wearing an black shirt decorated with blue roses, vines and beads, with the traditional white blouse on a with a matching vest also decorated with blue roses, vines and beads. Her long hair was French braid and went down all the way to her bottom held by a blue bow. She had black slippers on her petite feet with vines on them.

She chuckled as she plucked him from her lap and placed him on the ground gently while he pouted. Gracefully raising from her seat, Kagome scurried to the closet and began to pick the kits clothes.

"Sorry Shippo, but I do have chores to finish. Plus the cabinets are getting bare once more meaning I will have to play a visit to the market soon."

Shippo huffed and sulked.

"But Kaa-san~!" He whined as she began to dress him.

"No Shippo." She said sternly. "I have things to do. Go play with Mimi for a little while, and I'll be done before you know it."

Shippo huffed once more and bounced off to find the small pet mouse, they kept for his entertainment.

She sighed and began to gather up the nessary things she would need for her newest excursion. Humming a soft tune to herself as she closed and locked the door of her small home, she went on her why to the market. Unaware of the pale eyes following her every move.

Kagome frowned to herself as she past yet another market stand. Her eyes narrowing in at the condition all of the food was in.

'Its all rotting...' She thought as she picked up a fruit and inspected it. Her nose curled in distaste at the potient vile fumes the produce gave off.

'This is no ordrany decomposition.' She mused as she fingered the black tinted spots on the orange before putting it up to her nose and smelling the fruit once more. She carefully identifyed each scent before frowning once more and placing the fruit down.

'It reeks of death, disease, and angel feathers.' She thought with distaste as she moved through the crowds. She looked up to the darkening clouds with a sly smile.

'Ah, Lady famine will be visiting this region soon. I better get out of this place before she decides to pay me a visit on my own grounds.' She thought as she swiped a couple loafs of bread, soap and some meat. Carefully placing all of the stolen items into the wicker basket, she trotted towards home, smirking at each of the gasp that the shop owners made as soon as the found their produce missing. And never failing to notice the barely audible sigh that ushered from lady famines lips a couple feet from her.

Kagome scowled at the red haired angel. She literally just got home to find her kit playing with the red hair nuisance, otherwise know as Kikin.

"Shippo." She growled out causing the kit cast her a questioning glance. "Go play with some over your toys for a little bit, while I speak to our guest."

Shippo nodded and scurried over to the door and exited with a cheeky goodbye to the famine angel before bolting out the door. Kikin smirked at the flustered ex-angel. While Kagome glared at her.

"Why are you here?" She asked bluntly causing Kikin to choke a giggle.

"What no more hellos? Why, Kagome, I'm ashamed of you! What happened to that cheerful girl we all loved?"

"Cut the crap, Kikin. What are you doing here?" Her tone ending with a sharper note that even cause the giddy Kikin to somber.

Kikin blinked her pale blue eyes slowly as she assessed the ex-angel slowly.

"You really have change haven't you, Doko?" She stated softy as she watched Kagome look out the window. Not even attempt to deny the statement. Kikin sighed and allowed her eye lids to droop.

"I was hoping it wasn't as severe as the elders made it seem, but they were right. Your purity is starting to be eating by your-" a glass vase collided into the wall right next to her head cause her to jump away in surprise.

"Do not speak of things you do not know of, Kikin." Kagome hissed as she allowed her eyes to turn silver and grasped her hidden knife in her hand.

"Tread carefully... Because what you say and do right now will decide your end."

Kikin gulped as she stared at the pure gold dagger inside Kagome's hand. Gold to angels was like silver to werewolves, just ten times worse and plenty of more pain. It just took one stab into a vital organ for their lives to end.

Not takening her eyes from the dagger she stated, "I came here as a messenger for the elders. They wish to know what you are searching for on the moral plane. You know that you now allow back into angel society, on behalf of Satomi, but you still refuse to come back to the society and Kindan no ko. What are you searching for here?"

Kagome smirked coldly as her gripped tightened around the blades handle.

"Give the elders this message for me, Kikin. If they are smart enough to figure out this riddle then they will know my reasons." She requested softly. Kikin nodded.

"I cut through evil

like a double edged sword,

And chaos flees at my approach.

Balance I single-handedly upraise,

Through battles fought with heart and mind,

Instead of with my gaze.

What am I?"

Kikin took a moment to mermorize the riddle before asking, "Is there any thing you would like me to pass on to Kindan no ko?"

Kagome nodded.

"Tell my forbidden child that I love her and that I will meet up with her soon as soon I'm done with my time here on earth. I will break her out of her chained tower if its the last thing I do."

Kikin nodded and closed her eyes as she began to fade.

"Oh and one more thing Kikin." Kagome said softly causing Kikin's eyes to snap open. Kagome offered her a real, genuine, gentle smile causing her to gape openly.

"Thank you."

Then like the wind Kikin was gone. The breeze from an open window gently caressed Kagome's skin making her eyes close in bliss. 'Once I'm done, my beloved forbidden child, I promise you I will help you escape them along with me and your new brother. I promise.'

Kikin- famine
