Barbara watched apprehensively as Luthor paced back and forth in an almost comical manner... This Batman... He seemed to know just what to say to get under Luthor's skin... And it was working, it was working well... A little too well...

Without warning, the furious Luthor grabbed her shoulders...

owever upon a closer"Cheetah, GAG HIM!" Luther ordered viciously.

Barbara cringed. She did not want any part of this but this was beyond her control now... She had done too much, accepting Luther's funding, working with hardcore super villains, going TOE TO TOE WITH THE JUSTICE LEAGUE, her involvement with kidnapping the Batman... Things were just going to get from bad to worse here.

"CHEETAH!"

Snapping out of her revere, Barbara didn't want to attract suspicion. Attempting to look confident, she strode up to the unimpressed Batman, flexed her claws and hissed at him. Seemingly convinced, the Injustice League filed out one by one. Barbara relaxed as the sounds disappeared. Ignoring the Batman's glare she made her way to the other side of the room. She didn't want to feel even guiltier than she already did.

"What are you doing?" came a growl.

"Getting away from you..." Barbara mumbled flipping open a newspaper.

"You're supposed to be watching me..."

"I don't want to..."

"Why not?"

"You don't interest me..."

" Why..."

Barbara rolled her eyes but didn't answer, choosing to commit all her attention to the Sunday Times.

"You're different from the others..." Batman said finally.

"Obviously, haven't you noticed the fur, claws and not to mention the tail?" Barbara shot back sarcastically, her tail flickering in annoyance.

"You aren't a criminal aren't you?" The Batman insisted his eyes getting more intense from behind the cowl. Barbara simply shrugged.

"It doesn't matter..."

"It does to me."

Annoyed, Barbara flung the newspaper into the air and strode up to the caped crusader. " Fine, you got me. I don't want anything to do with this... I wouldn't care if you escaped... If you can of course..."

"Maybe I can..."

"Be my guest..." Barbara snapped.

"I would, but I want to know why someone like you decided to join Luthor's cause."

"A woman needs to eat..." she retorted.

"That's not an answer..."

"It's my answer!" she hissed angrily, which only made Batman's glare darken.

"Why?" he demanded, his tone fiercer... His fists clenched... His body hunched over in a desperate attempt to intimidate her.

Barbara stepped backwards cautiously "It's none of your business..."

"WHY?!"

Barbara felt the pit of her stomach explode. "YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY? I'LL TELL YOU WHY! IT'S BECAUSE... I... I... Barbara's voice cracked.

"I need the money... For a cure... I can't...I can't live like this..." she confessed, burying her face in her knuckles, tears welling up in her eyes.

Bruce's mouth opened in surprise... In all honesty, he didn't expect her to confess to something as... as personal as that... He had initially hoped that she'd lash out, use her claws... Maybe carelessly tear through his restraints... But she didn't...

Instead she gave him a poisonous glare before turning her back to him. Bruce lowered his head, her cheeks were stained with tears...

"Do you feel better now? Getting such patheticness out of me... I believe you must feel good about yourself... Are you going to go back to your watchtower? Tell all your friends what a weakling I am?"

Bruce looked away... Maybe he shouldn't have...

"I can't believe I ever felt sorry for you... " Cheetah growled before turning to leave...

Tensed silence filled the room... Tensed silence that Bruce couldn't bear... Finally, he brought himself to do the unthinkable...

"I'm sorry..." he said finally... The words foreign in his mouth...

He watched hopefully as Cheetah's ears twitched, her tail slowly uncurling from underneath her...

"What did you say?" she asked softly, her green eyes gleaming...

"I'm sorry..." Bruce repeated, with great difficulty. In an instant, Cheetah was in front of him, her claws to his neck, her beautiful face twisted into a fanged snarl, her eyes frenzied.

"Mock me again... And I will kill you..." she snarled aggressively before confusion settled over her features and slowly her face fell apart to reveal one of shock and then disgust...

I'm sorry..." she suddenly stuttered before backing away...

"I don't know what came over me... I... Look... This is why I want to be alone... I'm dangerous... I don't want to hurt anyone... But I sometimes I can't control... I can't control myself... I..."

Bruce shushed her softly...

"I know what it's like to be alone..." he said gently.

Cheetah released a peculiar sound, somewhere between a laugh and a wail...

"What do you know... you're a hero... People love you. Children look up to you. Me? They treat me like I'm a monster..." she spat.

"Let me help you..."

There was a harsh laugh.

"No one is going to hel...help a savage monster like me... you would sooner lock me up in a cage than look at me..." she hissed bitterly clawing her own furred shoulders. Bruce cringed; he wanted to hold her... Comfort her... But he was restrained... Taking a deep breath, he braced himself...

"I won't... Barbara..."

There was a pause but Bruce did notice how Barbara's ears perked up in surprise before she turned around to face him.

"What did you call me?"

"Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva... That's your real name isn't it?" Batman said calmly. Barbara cautiously nodded, before shaking her head. It had been so long since anyone called her that... But...

"That's not important anymore..." she whispered looking away.

"Not important? Barbara, you were trying to help mankind, to try and cure cancer that is no small feat... Do you know what kind of revolutionary break through that would have been?"

Barbara allowed herself a small smile... Yes, her work as a doctor would have been revolutionary except...

"You flatter me Batman... My research did opened up whole new worlds... I did cure cancer... But there is a HUGE drawback..." she growled angrily.

"What would that be?"

"This..." she said rancorously, gesturing at her whole body. " I tested the cure on myself... Just to prove my research was worthwhile and now... and now I'm a freak..."

"You're not a freak..."

"More accurately a savage animal..." Barbara shrugged casually but the look in her eyes couldn't hide her pain.

Bruce shook his head firmly.

"That's not what I see... I see a woman who is willing to give up everything for a cause she believed in..." and he had meant every word of what he said. This woman.. She may call herself a freak but he called her a prodigy... Someone worth his time of day... Someone with such strength of character it surprised even him... She was one in million... A diamond in the rough...

Barbara looked at this man stunned... Just not willing to believe the words he had just said...He was so different from the others... He was the first person... The first person in weeks to treat her like... Like an actual human being... He was so unlike the others who had called her names... He actually acknowledges she had feelings... He was so sincere, so understanding... So...

In an almost hypnotic like trance, Barbara found her arms wrapped around the man's waist, shivering slightly as her fur made contact with the soft fabric... It's been so long since she had been this close to another person... Another male person...

"How do you know so much about me?" She whispered.

"Cats are not the only ones who are... curious..." Batman cooed, giving her a dashing smile...

"Too much curiosity can be dangerous..." she warned playfully...

"Maybe... I like danger..." he tempted.

"Do you?" she purred, her claw tracing his cowl...

"Try me..."

To her surprise, the Batman leaned forward and passionately forced her lips open... Barbara's emerald eyes grew wide in pure shock as Batman increased the pressure between their bodies. At first, she tried to pull away but soon found herself surrendering to Batman's advances... She couldn't help it... This was the human contact she craved. Human contact she was certain no one could or would ever wish to give her. Her mind blown, she coiled her arms around his neck and returned the kiss with more violence and intensity than what Batman had to offer. Surprised, Batman yielded his mouth up without thinking and Barbara took the opportunity to taste her lover thoroughly, her tongue caressing Batman's and demanding he respond and to her surprise, he did...
