Here you have it. Chapter 10. Double digits! I'd put a disclaimer here, but we don't really need it now, do we? I'm sure you're all sick of it anyway.
This chapter is for everyone who asked for a longer chapter or for a faster update. You asked and I listened... Well... I tried to.
There is something about Edward that makes me forget myself. A half-naked Edward even more so.
And a day in bed leaves a lot of time to talk.
It began with pointless chatter – I guess that's how everything starts.
But soon, the conversation topic drifted away from awkward nothings to more comfortable everythings.
I learned that he prefers classical music to any other.
That he likes to read but doesn't have the time to do it often.
That he used to play piano but stopped after his mother's suicide.
That he wanted to name his daughter Elizabeth, after his mother.
That he likes Italian food and prefers beer over wine.
And action movies. Lots and lots of action movies.
Which, all things considered, was pretty ironic because his life was pretty much just one big action movie.
He told me more about his family and I told him about mine.
About my mother. Who I didn't truly care for.
About my father who died and left behind not only me but Rosalie as well.
He laughed when I told him about the time when Rose and I were about 4 years old and had drawn red hearts with my mother's lipstick on the toilet seat in the boys bathroom.
That evening my Charlie got a phone call from Taylor's mom about her "innocent little boy" who had come home with red hearts on his ass.
Charlie laughed and laughed and laughed until he could hardly catch his breath. When he was done, he told me he didn't want me anywhere near the boys bathroom, let alone the toilet seats. And that was that.
Taylor's mother divorced his father two months later for some small-everywhere-else-but-big-in-Forks singer and moved out of Forks a few months later.
And he told me about that time he'd set four pigs loose during his high school graduation and they had to end the thing early.
I also told him about Jacob Black.
About how shortly after Charlie's death, Jake asked me to prom. At the height of my grief, I was known for doing stupid things. Going to the prom with Jake would probably have been somewhere at the top of that list right next to that time when Rosalie and I went cliff-diving a week after Charlie's funeral.
Rose had worked her magic and dressed me up in a cute light pink dress for prom. I felt beautiful as we stepped out of our limos laughing and ready for a fun night out. Ready to try and forget the Charlie-sized holes in our lives for just one night.
Jacob set me up. I realised that when he turned up with Lauren Mallory on his arm and made out with her when I made a move to walk up to him. I should have turned around and walked away. I should have, could have but didn't. If I had left, they wouldn't have had the chance to "accidentally" drop a bowl of punch on me before shoving me into the food table. My humiliation didn't end there.
When I came to school the following Monday, everyone had a copy of the video. Someone had even edited it and given me a donkey's head and tail with the words "Not a Swan" photoshopped onto my forehead.
When I told Edward this, he got a murderous look on his face that reminded me of the day in the office.
His jaw and fists were tight and his eyes turned hard.
He looked dangerous. Was it wrong of me to find this extremely sexy?
"Where is he?" He practically growled.
I looked at him in confusion, "Who?"
"Jacob Black. Where does he live?" He said through clenched teeth.
"Edward, you can't kill everyone who does something wrong by me. I haven't heard from him since graduation. Please let this go. Let the past lie."
I put a hand on his arm in an attempt to calm him down and was pleased to find ti was working. Sorta.
"Fine, but if he ever approaches you or even thinks of you again, I will hurt him. Am I clear?"
I nodded my head. This was probably the best offer I could get out of him.
When the time came to get ready for the dinner I realized there was a tiny problem.
"Edward?" I yelled from the bathroom. Edward came running in almost immediately despite the fact that he was only wearing black dress pants. I nearly drooled at his bare chest.
Yeah. I know. I was a sucker for Edward and his body. Who wouldn't be?
I stood on my toes and kissed him lightly. I must have done something good in my past life to have someone like Edward. He wrapped his arms around my waist and looked down at me, "What is the problem, love?"
Why was I born so short?
"I don't have anything to wear tonight." I said and he smiled before kissing my head.
"I had Alice send over some stuff. Why don't you take a look at the bag in the bedroom?"
I did as he said and on the bed was a huge bag with a beautiful night blue dress, make-up, high heels, lingerie, jewellery and a black clutch.
Reminding myself to put up less of a fight whenever Alice wanted to drag me shopping, I took the bag and locked myself in the bathroom to get ready.
I stepped out of the bathroom a short while later to find Edward standing before the mirror as he tried to do his tie. He was failing miserably at it.
When his eyes met mine his jaw dropped. He stopped trying to do his tie, letting it droop miserably as he walked up to me and put a hand up under my chin, forcing me to look him in the eyes.
"My darling Isabella, you look even more gorgeous than usual." I blushed and gave him a chaste kiss on the lips. I had decided to try and keep everything as natural as possible as I doubted Edward's father would have appreciated it had I turned up to his family dinner with make-up caked on my face.
"You don't look too bad yourself, kind sir." I joked and he sent me a crooked grin.
Much to my disappointment, he was now wearing a white shirt but it was probably for the best. I would have never have been able to eat with his upper body on display for the world to see.
Sighing, his gaze returned to the mirror as he continued his battle with the tie. I decided to put him out of his misery after a few seconds of watching his struggle. My fingers grabbed the tie out of his hands and looped it for him.
"Where did you learn to do that?"
"Charlie. He was hopeless with ties as well."
We walked out to the waiting car and greeted Tim before getting inside.
I was really nervous, yet excited at the same time.
I couldn't wait to tell the girls about my engagement, knowing that they would be really thrilled. Especially Alice! She would demand to be the wedding planner.
I was, however, a ball of nerves at meeting Edward's father.
I felt a little better knowing Edward would be by my side the entire time, but after everything I had heard about Mr Cullen, having dinner with him was the opposite of what I wanted to do.
Screaming at him? Sure.
Punch him in the face? You only live once, right?
Have dinner with him? I would sooner shoot myself in the foot. Actually that was a pretty good reason to skip out on dinner. But Edward would never go along with it.
Edward squeezed me tight, stopping my line of crazy from progressing. "You okay, love?"
I looked into his concerned eyes and gave him a small smile.
"I'm fine, just nervous," And busy pondering the pros and cons of shooting myself in the foot.
"You have nothing to worry about sweetheart. I will take care of it. My father would never do anything with Emmett, Jasper and me in the room. He wouldn't dare."
His eyes hardened and I began to draw circles on his cheek.
"I know." I said before kissing him lightly on the lips.
Tim came to a screeching halt outside the fancy restaurant not a moment too soon, causing Edward to pull away with a groan. Edward got out first and held the door open for me. When I was outside, he put an arm around my waist and guided me inside.
I had noticed that Edward was a touchy-feely type of person. I didn't tell him that though. He would have probably denied it or, if it were anyone else, he probably would have shot them between the eyes.
The truth was that whether it was his arm around my waist or his lips to mine, he was always touching me in some way. The silly schoolgirl in me squealed at the warm tingles I felt whenever he was touching me.
We walked in together. Everyone seemed to look at us, or rather Edward, with a hint of fear in their eyes. Edward didn't seem to notice, but I did.
Edward led me to the back of the restaurant where I could see Alice, Jasper, Rose and Emmett waiting at a table. Fortunately, there was no trace of Edward Cullen Senior yet.
Alice was wearing a light pink dress with matching heels and jewellery. Whilst Rosalie was wearing a red dress with gold loop earrings and a matching bracelet with black pumps.
When I arrived, I noticed that Rosalie was speaking to Emmett heatedly while Emmett only smiled at her leisurely. I swear if you couldn't hear or see Rosalie's wrath and just concentrated on Emmett, you would think he was watching some comedy show or something.
Jasper and Emmett were both wearing black dress pants, a white shirt and black tie like Edward.
They all rose to greet us as we came closer to the table. I made sure to keep my left hand hidden until we made the announcement on our engagement.
"Bella!" Alice squealed and gave me a tight hug. Rosalie did the same and I could see Jasper and Emmett greeting Edward with a ''man hug.''
Edward held the chair out for me and I sat down.
I was seated in between Edward and Alice, next to Alice was Jasper then Rose and Emmett. Whoever arranged this table was obviously not scared of Rosalie chewing Emmett's head off.
Between Emmett and Edward, there was an empty chair ready for Edward Senior.
"So," I said and looked mischievously at Emmett, Rose, Jasper and Alice, "What have you guys been up to?"
I wiggled my eyebrows and Alice blushed whilst Rosalie continued to glare at Emmett.
Emmett was the only one with a huge grin, "I have been fucking Rose."
He said like it was the most natural thing to say in the middle of a restaurant, earning him a smack from Rose at the back of his head.
"Ouch! What was that for?" He yelled.
"For being an ass!"
"They're sorta fuck-buddies. Except Emmett did something and Rose is mad at him right now." Alice whispered to me.
A nervous looking waiter came to our table with champagne. His eyes widened when he took in Rose and Alice. They must have been quite the sight…
Edward cleared his throat, shooting the waiter a strange look. The waiter snapped out of it quickly and served us some drinks before scampering off without taking our order. The others must have ordered before we got there.
Emmett and Jasper glared after the poor waiter the entire time and I clapped my hands over my mouth to muffle my giggles.
A huge gasp was heard from Alice and Rose and I looked at them in confusion.
"Isabella Marie Swan, what is on your finger?" exclaimed Rose.
Edward smiled at me and took my hand in his under the table.
"Should you or should I make the announcement, sweetheart?" He asked and grinned at me.
"You go ahead honey," I said and squeezed his hand. He looked like he'd just gone and won the lottery.
We still hadn't spoken about his constant use of pet names for me… It was only fair that if he was allowed to use a pet name then I was too.
I'm not sure if it was for the fact that I had called him 'honey' or that he could announce the engagement, he looked ecstatic. He was practically glowing.
"Well, the reason we invited you all to dinner, is because we wanted to announce our engagement to you all." He kissed my cheek and I blushed.
Alice squealed, "Oh my god! Can I plan the wedding? Please, please, please?"
I nodded, "Of course you can."
Rosalie was staring at her plate in silence. She was yet to react to the announcement.
"Bella. You've only known this man for a few days. What if –"
"I know. But there's something about Edward. He makes me happy."
"I hope for your sake this works out. You deserve to be happy."
"You do too." I shot her a pointed look with my head tilted towards Emmett making her blush.
Alice came over to my side of the happy and practically tackled me to the ground in her joy. "Thank you!"
We laughed and Rose leaned over Jasper to join the hug.
We were all a blubbering mess of happy tears and laughter.
Emmett and Jasper gave me hugs as well. I could see the men clapping Edward on the back congratulating him.
We were all brought out of our happy bubble by someone clearing their throat.
"May I ask what we are all celebrating?"
I snapped out of my happy state into the cold eyes of an angled man. His eyes. His chin. His cheeks. There was not a single curve about him.
His grey suit was pressed and his hands were clasped behind him, but it was his eyes that silenced me.
His green eyes were so similar yet so different to Edward's.
Unlike Edward's, they didn't sparkle with mirth or arrogance. There wasn't even a hint of happiness.
Instead, all I could see was fury and whispers of distaste.
I could feel Edward stiffen next to me.
I know. There's a whole tonne of fluff. But the plot will pick up!
I swears it!
*Insert cute cat meme*
I may or may not have a slight obsession for cats.
Fun fact: I have the last chapter and the wedding chapter all written and ready to publish. It was one of the first scenes I wrote. Everything else? Not so much.
I'm one of those writers that doesn't follow chronological order. Anyone else have the same problem?
Weeeeeeeeeell this isn't awkward or anything…
Thanks for reading!
I'd love it if you could review, but I'm not going to make you or try and coerce reviews out of you.
'Til next time!
