When I woke up the next morning I wasn't surprised to see Edward had already left. I was happy that he did have a car here for me to use, at least I wouldn't be completely stranded. The next few days continued to drag on. I ended up calling Angela and filling her in on what happened, she was really upset and wanted to know if there was anything she could do. Unfortunately there wasn't. I promised I'd call her again soon. I ended up not calling Charlie, I was still pretty mad at him for the situation he got me in. He could wait a little longer to hear from me. School was boring, especially with having to listen to Jessica's voice all day long. I found myself thinking about Edward more than a few times, wondering if he was ok, or where he even was at. I also found my self anxious for him to come home. Even though most of the time he was an asshole to me, I felt drawn to him and wanted to get to know him better.
When I pulled into the parking garage something didn't feel right. I noticed two black SUV's like the one's Carlisle was in when he had taken me from my dad. I took the elevator up to our floor and as I got out I looked down the hallway and noticed our front door was cracked open. This can't be good. My thoughts were interrupted by my phone vibrating. It was Edward. I picked it up and whispered, "Hello?"
He seemed frantic, "Bella, where are you? Are you ok?"
"I'm just getting home from school, Edward I think someone is in our condo." I was still whispering, not wanting whoever was in our home to hear me.
"Get out of there now, Bella!" He yelled.
I quickly turned around and got back on the elevator, and ran back to my car. When I got in my car I realized I was still on the phone with Edward.
"Edward?" My mind was starting to process what was happening and I started to tear up.
"Did you make it to your car yet?"
"Yes," I sobbed.
"Bella, please don't cry, drive to my parents house and don't leave until I get there."
He gave me directions on how to get there and hung up. I didn't know what was going on, but whatever it was, wasn't good.
Esme greeted me at the door when I arrived, Edward must have called her to tell her I was coming. She must have noticed that I was upset and pulled me into a hug.
"Are you ok, Bella?"
I nodded, "Yeah, just a little scared."
"Did you see anyone when you went home?"
I shook my head no, "I felt something was off as soon as I pulled into the garage and seen the SUV's, and when I reached our hallway I saw the door was opened a crack and that's when Edward called and told me to leave."
"Well I'm glad nothing happened to you, Edward should be here shortly. Why don't you make yourself comfortable in the living room while I make us some dinner."
I nodded and we parted ways.
I flipped through the channels on the TV, not staying on any channel for too long. I was ready to see Edward and find out what was going on.
I must have fallen asleep after that, because the next thing I knew I was being picked up.
I opened my eyes and realized Edward was carrying me up the stairs.
"Shh it's ok, go back to sleep."
He pulled the covers back on the bed, I noticed we were in the room I had stayed in when I was first brought here.
He laid me down on the bed and covered me up, but before he could walk away I said, "Please don't leave me."
I felt safe when I was with him and wished he would never have to leave again. He crawled into the bed next to me and pulled me closer to him, my back against his chest.
Before I fell back asleep I heard him whisper into my ear, "I'm sorry."
I woke up to feeling crushed my Edward's arm. He was still holding me in the same position as when I fell asleep, which I was happy about because that means he didn't leave. I could feel his morning wood pressing into me, and couldn't help but giggle. He must have heard me because he said, "What's so funny?"
I turned over so I could face him, "Nothing."
He smirked, "Something."
I glanced below the covers giving him a hint and he just laughed.
I could feel that something had changed between us. The tension was no longer between us. Even though we hadn't done anything different, this situation was bringing us closer.
"I'm sorry about yesterday," he whispered.
"What happened? Who was in the condo?"
"I'm working on that, I'm just so glad you didn't go in."
I nodded, "Me too."
His next move surprised me when he leaned over and kissed me. I wasn't able to move my lips at first because I was in shock, but got them to work once he slipped his tongue in my mouth. After a few long minutes we broke apart.
"Sorry," he panted, "I just had to do that."
"It's ok," I smiled. I couldn't believe how nice he was being. And it didn't hurt that he was an amazing kisser.
We stayed silent for awhile just laying in each others arms. He finally broke the silence when he said, "I think we should move."
I didn't really know what he expected me to say, it really wasn't up to me in what we do. If he wanted to move than we would. It's not like I owned anything, it was all his.
"I don't think you really have to ask me if you want to move Edward."
"I know this is all new," he pointed between me and him, "but we might as well try to make it work. I can't be working and know you are unprotected."
He wanted this to work? This was news to me. One day he's leaving me alone, jetting off to who knows where, and the next he's kissing me in bed telling me he wants to make it work. He is so confusing.
When I didn't reply he spoke again, "Do...do you want to try to make this work?"
Did I? I mean I don't know much about him, but there is definitely something there between us. And it's not like I really had any other choices.
I nodded yes to him, and he planted a kiss on my forehead.
The next few nights we stayed at Edward's parents house, I didn't feel comfortable being at the condo alone when Edward had to work at night, so it was easiest just to stay here. Edward had found a house to buy that was only a few blocks from his parents house. He had asked me if I wanted to go house hunting with him, or if there was anything special I wanted in the house, but honestly I didn't really care. Whatever he bought would be fine. He was insistent that we both like the house that we choose, as he wanted me to be comfortable there and feel like it was my home too and not just his. We had both liked the house that he found, and I found it comforting that I would be close to Esme.
Alice had also been around the past few days. She would come hang out after school, and even talked me into letting her help decorate our new house.
Edward was somehow able to close on our house that week and we got the keys on friday. That same day he had a top of the line security system installed, and said that he would go as far as getting body guards to surround the house if he had to. I thought that would be going a little overboard, but in his line of work you could never be too safe. He would never talk to me about work, he said the less I know the better. I had to leave it at that, hoping that if it were ever anything serious he would talk to me.
It was Saturday and the movers had just delivered our stuff from Edward's condo, well I should say Edward's stuff, I only had some clothes to bring over. Edward had left for the day and I had decided to start unpacking some boxes. Our new house was gigantic compared to what I was used to, having 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. I had no idea what we would do with all this space.
I was hanging up some clothes in our closet when I heard my name.
"I'm in here."
Alice stood in the doorway, "Bella, you really shouldn't leave the front door unlocked."
"I know sorry, the movers just left."
"Well the furniture I ordered should be here soon."
I sighed, "ok." I didn't even bother to ask what she had bought, knowing it was probably really expensive. She has great style though so I trusted her design skills.
As the stuff started to arrive she bounced around everywhere telling the delivery guys where to put things.
When it was all in place she said she had to get home to Jasper, but promised we would hang out soon. I really like having Alice around, and it made me feel closer to Edward while he was gone.
I went back to hanging clothes in the closet when she left, and shortly after Edward was home and calling for me. Ugh, I was never going to get these clothes hung with all these interruptions.
"Hey, what are you doing up here?"
"Hanging up all of your clothes, you know you have like ten of the same Gucci button down shirts right?"
He smiled, "Yeah, I like them."
I walked over to him and noticed his hand was swollen and bloody.
"Edward, what happened?"
He became tense, "Don't worry about it."
"How can I not, your hurt!" I didn't realize till after I had said it that I was yelling.
He yelled back, "I'm fine, don't worry about it."
I turned around to go back to hanging clothes so he wouldn't see the tears forming in my eyes.
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He walked over to me hugging me from behind, "I'm sorry."
I turned around in his arms so I was facing him. I shook my head, "No, I shouldn't have pushed the issue, I'm sorry."
He gave me a quick peck on the lips before heading into the bathroom to shower. Suddenly I wondered if that was his own blood on his hands or someone else's, but I don't think I really want to know the answer.
Three weeks had passed since we moved in and it was finally my birthday. I had only seen Edward for half of that because he was always working. We were getting along and actually felt like a normal couple. I learned quickly not to press him about work details, because it didn't ever go well. Edward had been away for the past three days, and I was hoping he would have made it back in time for my birthday, but it didn't look like that was going to happen. Alice had wanted to throw me a birthday party, but I put my foot down and refused. I didn't feel like celebrating with a bunch of people I didn't know. She insisted that we at least go out and have a girls night to celebrate, and I hesitantly agreed to that. She also asked if it was ok to invite Rosalie along. Emmett, one of Edward's best friends, had stopped by the house a few times but he had never brought his wife Rosalie with. She wasn't too friendly with me at Edward's birthday party, but it would be nice if we could be friends. I agreed to her being invited and Alice promised she would be on her best behavior.
Alice came over Saturday night to help me get ready. I didn't know how I was going to get into a club because for most of them you had to be over 21, but she said not to worry.
"Alice, I am not wearing this." She had put me in a skin tight dress that barely covered my ass. There was no way in hell I was going out in public like this.
"Bella, you look hot. Edward would love it."
I rolled my eyes, "Yeah well Edward's not here."
"It's your birthday, and plus you need to look 21." She eyed my finger and I could tell she was noticing I wasn't wearing my wedding rings. She frowned, "Where are your rings?"
"I take them off for school."
"Well put them on, and let's go."
I grabbed them out of my nightstand and met her downstairs.
Alice was right when she said not to worry about getting into the club, her makeover magic must have done the job because they let us right in. We met Rosalie inside who had grabbed us a small table already filled with drinks.
"Alice I can't drink, I'm not 21."
She had a wicked grin on her face, "Yes you can," she said as she handed me a shot.
I eyed her cautiously, and set the drink back on the table.
"Come on Bella it's your birthday, let loose a little."
Rosalie handed me the shot again and I downed it immediately.
Rosalie actually turned out to be really nice, she was just a badass kind of girl. She definitely took shit from no one. She was also one of the most prettiest girls I had ever seen. At first she was a little cold towards me, but the more alcohol we got in us, the more she warmed up to me.
All three of us danced together, grinding and bumping on each other. I was having so much fun, but when we all started to stumble around we decided it was time to leave.
Alice rode home with Rosalie in a cab, and I had taken the car Alice had hired to drive me home. I was grateful she planned ahead because I definitely shouldn't be driving.
When I got home I noticed some of the lights were on and Edward's car was in the driveway. I suddenly felt really excited, and couldn't wait to get inside to see him.
As I stumbled through the front door, I started to try to find Edward. He wasn't downstairs which means he was either in our bedroom or his office. I tripped going up the stairs which only made me giggle. I was really drunk. I heard talking as I neared the office, and when I reached it I barged through the door, and stumbled in.
I met Aro's eyes as he sat in a chair across from Edward's desk. He didn't look happy.
Edward immediately stood up and came over to me.
"Bella, what the hell are you doing?"
I smiled as I stood there swaying, he put his hands on my hips to steady me.
"It's my birthday!" I yelled.
He grabbed me by my arm and hurried me out of the room, not stopping till we reached the bedroom.
"What do you think your doing? And why the hell are you dressed like that, you look like a hooker."
I frowned, "Alice said you would like it."
"Well Alice was wrong, and were you drinking? Bella, your not 21, do you know how much trouble you could get in?"
"I know Edward, but Alice and Rosalie got me into this club. We just wanted to celebrate."
His attitude was majorly killing my buzz and sobering me up fast.
He shook his head, "I can't even believe this right now. Change your fucking clothes, and don't leave the bedroom."
As he walked towards the door I yelled, "I'm not a child, I can do what I want!"
He turned around so fast, his eyes glaring at me. He didn't say anything though and just turned around slamming the door behind him.
I washed off my make up, put on my pajamas, and crawled into bed.
I whispered to myself, "Happy Birthday."
I was awoken by Edward kissing my neck. My eyes flew open and I glanced at the clock on the nightstand. I hadn't been asleep for long. Why was he kissing me though, he had just yelled at me.
I turned over to face him and I could see sadness in his eyes.
He sighed, "I'm sorry."
I didn't speak, not knowing what to say. We stared at each other in silence for a few minutes.
"Bella, please say something. I am so sorry."
"I just don't understand why you did that Edward, that was embarrassing."
He sighed again, "I know, and I can't say sorry enough. I just freaked out when you stumbled in with Aro sitting right there. There's already enough talk about our relationship, and then here you come in drunk and dressed like that. I should have handled it better."
"What do you mean talk about our relationship?"
"Well...There has been some talk about how young you are, and how we met, and all kinds of stuff."
I rested my left hand against his chest, and he grabbed it, pulling it up to his lips to kiss it. He rubbed his thumb over my rings.
"I'm glad to see you are wearing these."
I smirked, "Yeah, Alice made me."
I yawned and felt my eyes start to get heavy.
"I'm sorry for keeping you up, you should get some rest."
I nodded and turned over, facing away from him. As usual he immediately pulled me closer to him.
