Couple: Marty/Zack (AMC)
AN: This story is based on the following lyrics:
"And then I crashed into you,
And I went up in flames.
Could've been the death of me,
But then you breathed your breath in me.
And I crashed into you,
Like a runaway train.
You will consume me,
But I can't walk away." (Lyrics from Daughtry's Crashed)
Marty had to get as far away from Llanview as she could possibly get. She still had his blood on her hands...his obsession for her had finally pushed her over the edge and she killed him out of necessity. She couldn't let him rape her again. It was self defense but she knew that she would never get a fair trial not when John Mcbain still held a grudge against her.
She got in his car and drove as far away from the scene of the crime as she could.
Zach got in his car and drove away. His hands were still shaking with adrenaline and rage. He could never go back to Pine Valley again...he knew it was only a matter of time before Jessie found J.R.'s body and came after him.
It wouldn't matter that J.R. deserved to die for shooting Kendall, Spike and Ian. One moment Zach had a family and the next they were all dead. He thought he would feel better after J.R. was dead but he didn't. His family was never coming back and he could never go home again.
He sped around the corner and didn't see the oncoming lights of the other car until it was too late.
He climbed out of the car and went towards the other vehicle. As much as he needed to run away before the police showed up he couldn't just leave them there not when they could be hurt.
He looked inside and she was slumped over the steering wheel, broken glass everywhere.
She was unconscious so he grabbed her wrist. He couldn't feel her pulse...he had to move her out of the car so that he could give her CPR. He couldn't let her die...there had been too much death already.
He reached over and unfastened her seat belt. He gently lifted her on the ground and began filling her lungs with his breaths until she was breathing on her own.
"Patrick? It can't be...your dead," she mumbled as her eyelids fluttered open and she saw him.
"I'm sorry...I'm not your Patrick. I'm Zach Slater. We crashed into each other, but don't worry. I'll call an ambulance and wait with you as long as I can."
"No...no ambulance...no cops. I can't go home."
Zach looked into her eyes and for the first time in a long time he felt connected to another human being. She was afraid of going home...they both seemed to be fugitives on the run from their old lives. "I can't just leave you here so if you can't go to the hospital you can come with me."
"What's your name anyways?"
"Marty Saybrooke," she stated.
He lifted her into his arms and drove as long as he could. While he drove she talked. Maybe she shouldn't have confided in him, but he looked like Patrick so much and she trusted him completely. She told him all about her history with Todd Manning and how she killed him in self defense. He in turn told her all about Kendall, Ian, and Spike and how he had snapped and killed J.R. When he was too tired to drive any longer he stopped off at the nearest hotel.
Two years later...Zach had delivered Marty's twins. They named the girl Kendall after his late wife and they named their son Patrick after her late husband. He laid Patrick in her arms while he held onto Kendall
"Crashing into you was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. When I met you...I was empty...I had nothing left, but you gave me a family again and I'll always be grateful," he whispered as he kissed her forehead.
"I love you Zach. After Patrick, I didn't think that I'd ever feel this loved or protected," she whispered as she fell asleep next to him.
