Greetings, dear readers! In case you're wondering, Puzzler the Pony and CrazyCoffeeKat have decided to cowrite a fic together. Isn't that neat?

See, we're trying to blend our ideas together in the hopes of giving you a delicious fic-smoothie. So while Puzzler originally had written this as a very funny fic, CoffeeKat got her dirty little hands on it and angst-ed it all up. Then we sent it back and forth and mashed it all together, and viola! This is what we got.

We hope you enjoy. :)

It was a warm summer evening in Amnity Park. The town had been relatively quiet, seeing as there hadn't been any ghosts out. Of course, on a night like this, it wouldn't be a surprise if they'd decided to take the evening off.

Danny had offered to walk Sam home, and so the two were walking through town together. The sun had just started to dip below the horizon, casting everything around them in a soft, golden glow. As they strolled through the park, Danny glanced over at Sam.

The breeze blew softly through her ebony hair, causing a few strands to fall into her face. Danny grinned, reaching over to tuck them behind her ear before she batted his hand away.

Sam turned towards him, a small, shy smile appearing on her face. Their gazes met, and Danny couldn't help but notice how her amethyst eyes sparkled in the fleeting sunlight.

Danny's breath caught in his throat, and his heart beat just a little bit faster. He couldn't help but think that here, in this moment, everything was perfect. He never wanted it to end. Danny searched her face, taking in every single detail. He wanted to capture this moment and remember it always.

"Danny?" Sam's voice interrupted his thoughts. He realized belatedly that he'd been staring and he looked away, suddenly embarrassed.

Sam grinned slyly at him, and the two were silent for a moment. Suddenly, she drew in a breath, breaking the comfortable silence that had fallen between them.

"There's something I've been meaning to tell you," the goth said, a hint of nervousness in her voice, "but I never had the chance."

Danny's heart fluttered. This was it, he thought. She was finally going to admit her feelings to him. And he realized, blissfully, that he would finally get to do the same.

"Yes?" Danny said, voice slightly breathless.

Sam moved closer. She locked hands with Danny and, taking a deep breath, she stared into his eyes.

"You're a good friend."

In that moment, Danny's heart shattered into a million different pieces. He blinked, all emotion suddenly devoid from his face.

Breaking away from her grasp, he took a shaky step backwards.

Friend. Friend.

The word taunted him, echoing in his mind like a death toll.

He didn't know what to think. He and Sam had been friends for years. They had been through so much together, and all she could say is that he was 'a good friend'...

To say the half-ghost was crushed was an understatement.

Danny swallowed the lump in his throat and turned away, his eyes burning.

"Danny, are you alright?'' Sam asked, noticing her friend's sudden change in behavior.

"Yeah," he said, voice hoarse. "I'm... I'm good."

Sam reached towards him. "Danny-"

He backed away, careful to avoid her touch. Sam frowned, her brow furrowing as she watched him with a look of concern.

"I should get going," Danny said. "I have... stuff." He finished lamely.

"Alright..." Sam said, unsure. "I'll see you tomorrow, then?"

Danny turned to look at her one last time.

"Yeah," he smiled, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow."

And then he walked away; his form disappearing with the sunlight.
