Chapter Song: First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes

Charlie was waking up blurry-eyed when he saw Dr. Marcus coming in the room. He looked at Edward and Bella sleeping together. Next to Edward, she actually looked peaceful. He was immensely glad for the boy right then.

He got up, walking into the empty hall, seeing the sun only just over the horizon out the windows.

The doctor held a manila folder between his side and arm, looking at Charlie with worry. "How'd she sleep?"

"She woke up screaming a few times, but we could calm her down pretty fast."

He nodded. "Has Sam come seen her yet?"

Charlie nodded. "Yesterday. Do you have the results?" He wasn't in the mood to dance around the subject.

Marcus let out a breath. "Yes."

Charlie crossed his arms, stilling himself for the answer.

"It came out negative."

It took a moment for that to sink in. Suddenly, he hugged the other man.

Marcus patted his back. "It is very good news."

Charlie pulled away. "Thank you."

"No thanks needed."

Charlie shook his hand, thanking him many more times.

"I'll be back later in the day to see how she's doing."

Charlie nodded, waving goodbye before walking back in the room.

Bella was up, touching a finger tip to the side of Edward's still lax face.

She looked at Charlie when he closed the door, dropping her hand and facing him. "Was that Marcus?"

Charlie nodded, walking closer.

"With the results?"

He hesitated before nodding again.

Bella sighed, looking at Edward before looking back at him. "What scares me is I can't tell what they were by just looking at you."

"Do you want me to tell you?"

He waited, hoping she said yes.

She slid down further, looking up at the ceiling. He could see her debating with herself. Finally, she nodded.

"It was negative."

It took her a moment to digest it too. She covered her eyes and started crying, efficiently waking Edward.

"What's wrong?" he asked frantically, cradling Bella.

Charlie rushed forward, sitting on the other side of her. "That means he didn't rape you, sweetheart."

She nodded, uncovering her eyes. "I know."

Edward and Charlie glanced at each other. "What's wrong then?" Edward asked.

She struggled for a moment, before saying, "I don't know. I'm glad to know that. I was just holding in so many emotions and they won't stop now."

Finally, Charlie understood. "You let it out," he cooed, rubbing her shoulder.

They sat with her while she cried her little eyes out, at some point she started to smile. They smiled too, unable to help themselves.

"What are you smiling for?" Charlie asked quietly, as if they were in a library or something.

She took both of their hands in hers. "I finally feel free."

It was her release day. She been in the hospital for two days. Longer than she thought she needed to be, but it seemed to make all her loved ones feel better, so she stayed without a fuss.

Marcus and Sam had come seen her each day. Sam saying he'd see her free of charge for now on. She'd protested, saying she had plenty of money and for him to use his pro bono on someone that needed it.

He'd smiled at her, taking her hand and squeezing. "I'm not using my pro bono."

She just stared at him, before hugging him.

He'd stiffened for only a second then returned the hug, before shaking Edward and Charlie's hands and leaving.

Charlie stepped forward as Edward packed her bag. She was already dressed, they were just waiting for their papers. "I talked to your principle," he started.

She raised her eyebrows silently.

He swallowed, taking her hand and relaxing almost instantly. He peered into her eyes. "She said you'll still get you diploma even if you don't walk."

Bella looked down, chewing on her lip. Edward stopped what he was doing to watch them.

She looked up at them, looking from one to the other. "I want to walk."

Their eyes widened but they said nothing.

She reached her free hand out. Edward walked forward and took it, looking at her with a mix of curiosity and respect. Charlie sported the same look.

"He's ruined my life enough. I'm not going to let him take this from me too."

They both nodded as they all smiled at each other.

Charlie sat between Renee and Carlisle, with the rest of the loved ones of the graduates surrounding them on the football bleachers, facing the senior class in their caps and gowns.

Angela had just finished making her knock out valedictorian speech, causing many people to cry and laugh. Now names were being called with diplomas being handed to the students with a hand shake from the principle.

Everyone's names were called alphabetically, all receiving sounds of congratulation, even a few whistles.

When Bella's name was called, a roar of applause ensued as everyone stood. Bella blushed beat red, obviously not comfortable with the extra attention, but she smiled and held up her diploma anyways like the trooper she was.

When the ceremony was over and caps were thrown, Charlie's eyes caught Bella's.

She smiled at him, mouthing, I love you.

Bella didn't know what the future held for her. It could end up just as catastrophic as her past or full of happiness.

She was hoping for the latter though.

She looked around her new apartment, another mile stone.

She smiled softly as she touched their swayed couch Esme had bought with a matching chair for them as a house warming gift. Renee and Charlie had chipped in together to buy them an entertainment center. All kitchen appliances was already included. Bella had wanted to tell them it wasn't necessary, but she'd kept her mouth shut because it would do nothing but insult them.

She bought the flat screen and installed it with satellite and a Smart-TV Blue-Ray player before anyone else could. They used Edward's bedroom set since his bed was bigger.

Their two bedroom apartment wasn't the biggest thing ever but it was homey and she liked it that way. The kitchen, small dinning room, and living room were all open and together while each bedroom were on opposite sides with a bathroom next to Kate's room.

Kate'd bought all of them bathrobes, joking about how she loved them, but not enough to see each other bits.

She was just about to finish unpacking their last box of plates and glasses when someone wrapped their arms around her stomach.

She smiled, hooking an arm around Edward's sweaty neck. He'd just gotten back from running. She didn't hear him come in because she had the surround sound on with Alex Clare Pandora playing.

Lips pressed against the side of her neck, she placed the breakable glasses in her other hand from Charlotte and Peter on the counter before she dropped them.

"Hey, baby," Edward murmured in her ear. "I told you to wait for me to finish unpacking."

"I couldn't help myself."

He chuckled, twirling her around to face him before picking her up and placing her on an empty piece of counter.

Her whole body thrilled as he stepped between her legs.

"Should we christen it?" Edward asked slyly, kissing her lips seductively.

"God, please don't," came a new voice.

They both snapped to attention, but stayed where they were.

Edward turned to smile broadly at Kate while Bella leaned over with embarrassed eyes. She'd completely forgotten Kate was still there. She was already a bad roommate.

Kate laughed, opening the fridge and bending to look inside. "At least let me get a shake and leave first."

She started to walk toward the door, shaking her pre-made drink. With her hand on the doorknob, she looked over her shoulder at them, "Clean up after yourselves." Then she was gone, locking the door behind her.

Edward looked back at Bella, laughing at her expression.

She slapped his shoulders. "It's not funny."

"You're right. It's hilarious."

She crossed her arms. "You're impossible."

"Oh, don't be mad." He nudged his nose against the bottom of her chin before nipping the skin a little.

She gasped, wrapping her arms around his neck.

She captured his lips quickly, tangling her fingers in his hair as he snaked his hands under her tank top.

She pulled away. "We can't do it here. That's inconsiderate."

"Okay," he said cheerfully.

She titled her head at him.

A slow, devilish smile spread across his face before he picked her up and carried her in their room.

She laughed the whole way there until he lowered her to the bed and pulled his shirt off.

He stood on the side of the bed, looking down at her.

Her hand shook as it reached up to touch the ridges in his stomach.

He closed his eyes briefly, before smiling at her. "I can really get use to this."

She smiled lazily as her hand found his hip bone. "What?"

"Spending the rest of my life with you."

She nearly cried at how perfect that was—how prefect everything was.

She pulled off her tank, opening her arms to him.

He went all kinds of willing, kissing her slow and steady like he had all the time in the world.

She realized just then that they'd left the music on, but couldn't care now that they were flesh to flesh.

They made love for the first time since she'd been taken. She'd been afraid that the experience would taint things like this for her, but it didn't in the slightest. All she felt and thought about was Edward. How good he felt. How right they were together. How much she loved him.

She curled next to him when they were finished, humming. "I love you."

He cupped her chin, kissing her supply. "I love you too, baby."

He fell asleep before her and she just watched him.

Right there in the moment, she knew it wouldn't been easy all the time, but she saw happiness and healing in her future.

Story Note: I can't believe I'm finished. This was an amazing experience for me. By far the most successful story I've had so far. And I have you guys to thank for that.

I'm almost in tears, but happy tears. I'm sad to leave these characters, but I have to in order to give my others stories the attention they deserve.

I hope that the ending doesn't upset everyone too much. I liked leaving Bella in that new stage of life with endless possibilities and no more fear. I'm not going to say that I won't ever come back to these characters, but it will be a while if I do.

Until next time,
