The boy's pointed ears twitched as there was a hitch in the steady breathing he had been listening to. He waited, muscles tense, every second trickling past until he heard her soft sigh and the rustling of covers as she shifted in her sleep. He sighed too, leaning back against the wall. Tired, but afraid to fall asleep. Still rattled by past events. They shot through his brain, keeping him from any form of rest that his increasingly sane mind demanded. Although he wasn't quite sure what he was going to do when he got it all back. He took a deep breath and clenched his gloved hands, exhaling as he continued to let the girl's graceful rhythm calm him. The day's events continued to unravel in his mind.
"Beast Boy?" Raven turned to face him as they stopped outside her door. The corridor was empty, all the guests and residents of the Tower already asleep. The pair was up after a last minute patrol, sweeping the city for anything before they bunked for the night. Beast Boy yawned. "Yeah?"
"You...did a good job today. With leading the team and everything." She gave him one of her almost-smiles, lips cocking up but not quite one of Happy's grins. "You grew up a little."
His brain froze, as it always did when she spoke to him. "Really," he managed, all the while scrambling to say something, anything. Her almost-smile widened a bit, one corner quirking up. "Really." She turned back toward her room, the door sliding open. She started to walk in, only to pause and look back at him. "Goodnight Garfield."
He just stared at her before realizing what happened. "Night Rae." As the door snapped shut, he swore he heard a faint titter come from within. A wide grin crossed his face and he slumped to the floor.
He didn't move from that spot.
