Unexpected

I pulled up a stool at the local bar,

"What'll it be?" asked the bartender, I scanned the wall of names.

"I'll take a beer to start." I told him, the bar wasn't exactly jumping at four in the afternoon.

He placed it in front of me and walked off to serve a few other customers. I drank half of it soon as I grabbed it.

"You might want to slow it down a little handsome." a woman said as she got on the stool next to mine.

"Hi there." I greeted with a smile putting the bottle down, my problems forgotten already as I took in her blonde curly hair, and beautiful light green eyes.

"Hey, what's your story?" she said, catching me off guard.

"Excuse me?" I asked confused.

"Everyone in here has a story, I'm curious what yours is." she told me, giving me a once over.

"Oh, bad break up." I said quickly and leaned on the bar to get a better look at her.

"I don't want to talk about that, what brings you here?" I said and grabbed the bottle drinking some more as I took in her skinny jeans and red tank-top.

"Same thing." she replied a little huffy, I knew how she felt.

"How about I get you a drink?" I suggested and signalled the bartender.

"Alright, I'll have a rum and coke." she said, the bartender nodded and went to make it.

A slow song came over the speakers, "Would you uh like to dance?" I asked her, eyeing the dance floor as a few couples got up to dance.

"Sure, why not." she replied, I took her hand and we went out on the floor.

My hands rested gently on her hips, while her hands hung lose around my neck as we moved in rhythm to the music. She was so pretty, as the song ended I got the urge to kiss her but it was way too soon, right?

We went back to our drinks, "Thank you, that was nice." she told me smiling.

"No problem, any time." I said easily and smiled back.

"Sorry, I didn't introduce myself. I'm Claire." she said a little pink highlighting her cheeks, she looked really cute.

"Claire, that's a nice name. I'm Templeton.- I said introducing myself.

Claire smiled again, she was happy which was good. We moved to a booth to get more comfortable and settle in for a nice evening.

It's funny really, I went to the bar to forget my ex and drown my sorrows. I still forgot about my ex but finding Claire, that was completely unexpected.
