When Melkor walked beyond the ring

of Eru's light, he pulled me through

his smile, and through the Doors of Night.

. . .

I had no time for shadows once.

A golden child in a golden land,

I tumbled stars between my hands,

playing at making the Spheres from dust.

. . .

I kept the gold and drowned the stars

in mind-made shadows Melkor brought

too near my unperceiving thought.

He smiled to me and sooty bars

. . .

ran up the glass around my mind.

The brighter Spirits smiled above

my darkening form, and called it love

and wisdom – grace. And they were blind.

. . .

When Melkor walked beyond the ring

of Eru's light, he pulled me through

his smile, and through the Doors of Night.

Happy - and very belated - Birthday, SG! I hope you like this; it was a challenge, but so much fun to write!

(As always, none of the Far Green Country, or any of Arda, really, belongs to me.)

(Also as always, no slash intended.)
