That Dea was lying about Sara's mate being sterile?

Actually, I'm entertaining the idea that both Sarah and her new mate know that he's not fertile, and don't care. Remember when Sil found out a guy was sick merely from skin contact? Sarah and her mate have that same ability, even demonstrated in the film. I think, for Sarah, it became less about propagation of her species and more about companionship. Her priorities evolved from immature, instinctive want of offspring to mature want of a companion to spend her life with. Who cares if he's sterile? The important thing is... she's not alone anymore.

If they did reproduce offspring what might their "family life" be like?

For all things... normal and ideal, until the daughter or son hits puberty. Then it would likely be a scenario of rebellious post-pupa child having to be controlled by her worried parents, because of survival for them as a whole.

Wonder what the mate's childhood was like.

Eh... short...

Sara grew up quicker than Sil didn't she? Six inches a day, and she was nine looking when she cocooned.... How old would she have been?

Hm... They guessed Sil was about late twenties... within the film... Sil said told the woman on the train, before she coccooned, that she was probably 12 or 13... Granted, the specific age was asked.

How long would it have taken the mate to grow up.

Wonder what he spent his "early life" doing.
