![]() ![]() Name: Tartan Heart (Rafale Revive Custom Mk. II) Type: Real Height/Size: 4 meters Appearance: The Tartan Heart is a modified version of a mass-produced version of the Rafale Revive, an IS unit popular around the world for its versatility. This particular model, aesthetically, is very different from the mass-produced version. Perhaps the most visually apparent aspect is that the overall body is much more physically imposing. The armor plating is thicker, all around more armor is installed in various places, and the booster wings behind it are also larger to compensate for its change in weight. When in action, compared to other IS units, it looks like a moving fortress. It's painted in a navy blue color, and true to name, there's just the subtle hint of tartan-pattered trim in some places. Franchise: Infinite Stratos Attacks/Weapons: Caledonia - A massive sword by IS standards, almost 5 meters in length, matching its wielder in height. The sword, true to its Scottish roots, is fashioned and shaped after the eternal classic, the claymore. The sword, ideally, needs to be wielded with two hands, though the pilot can still attempt a one-handed swing with much less precision or power. It's not recommended, though. The first shift of the IS transforms its metal blade to a blue energy blade. The Bruce x2 - A Scottish homemade model of IS personal defense weapon (PDW). Fires .61 caliber rounds in full-auto or burst. Special Features: Highland Thistles - A unique, primary defensive system. Materializes a protective shield of energy, protecting the entire front of Tartan Heart. When the shields reach a critical breaking point (or if manually chosen by the pilot) the shield will shatter into several spines that act as projectiles, all pointed towards wherever the shield is pointed to. Usually, the shield is used to protect Tartan Heart during a charge with its sword, and in the event the shield is broken, it forces the enemy on the defensive to avoid getting hit with the shield's energy fragments, allowing a pursuit or an escape from any pesky relentless attack. A true offensive can't be mounted during such a charge, though it takes quite a long time to collect enough energy to create a new shield. Supposedly, this feature of the shield "shattering" was at first an accident that coincidentally made a great weapon. And the shards resemble the spikes of a thistle flower. Strengths: Having impressive statistics that would make some early 3rd Generation IS users blush, the Tartan Heart's status as a 2.5 generation IS should not let one take it lightly; this machine was designed to take a hit and hit its enemies hard. Against unprepared defenses, it might even go as far as taking out a unit in one blow. Its shield is durable too, and even if the enemy gets past it, they have to contend with another attack that forces them to either retreat, or risk getting hit by the shards and take damage. It might even prove enough of a distraction for Tartan Heart to close in. Weaknesses: Quite simply, Tartan Heart is a specialist. It does its specialization well, but... it lacks a lot of flexibility. Its armor is extremely impressive and surpasses some 3rd generation IS's, but it relies on charging and closing distance for melee combat. Plus, its shield has long cooldown times should it shatter, meaning the longer a fight goes on after that, the more at a disadvantage Tartan Heart becomes. Shield aside, the scant ranged weapons it does have is more suited towards mid-range combat than long-range, meaning the only viable strategy against a sniper is to close the distance. History: Unfortunately, in IS-related matters, Scotland essentially distanced itself from England and the rest of the UK after campaigning for their own representative candidate. Now in direct competition with them, the Scots had to work on this IS core with their own resources, without UK backing. With comparatively less resources and technology at their disposal, making a true 3rd Generation IS like Blue Tears was impossible. Thus, after a deal with Dunois Enterprise, Scotland obtained a prototype Rafale Revive Mk. II, an improved version of the mass produced IS unit that could be found worldwide. It would serve as a perfect base for constructing their own IS, since the Rafale Revive was renown for being highly adaptable for any situation depending on the equipment it received. So it was a no-brainer that Scottish engineers wanted to produce a warrior worthy of their legends and folklore. With some additional input from newly christened representative candidate McKenzie Gallacher, the Tartan Heart was born. 10/9/2018 #2 |
