The Quidditch League

This is where you can direct all of the many, many, many questions we're sure you'll have. Either another player or a mod, or both, depending on who sees the question first, will help you with your queries. If your question is something you'd prefer not to ask publicly, say, for example, it's a story idea you want to make sure fits into the forum's rating, you can always drop us a PM and we'll get back to you ASAP.

For starters, here are some frequently asked questions:

Q: How do I join? Where do I sign up?

If try-outs are still open, sign up on the try-outs thread. If try-outs are closed and you want to join mid-season, sign up in the reserves thread (link). Or, if you don't want to join as a player but as a reporter for The Daily Prophet, or a reserve, send us a PM!

Q: What team/position can I join?

Here is the list of all of our teams, and the positions in each team, as well as what each position entails to help you decide. Aside from that, it's completely up to you what team or position you join! Please note: if most spots are already occupied, you may have to make do with whichever team and position are vacant.

Q: How many rounds are there in a season?

This season, there will be 11 preliminary rounds. The number of final rounds will be announced shortly. You can view this in detail in the Draw & Ladder thread.

Q: How long is each round?

Each round lasts about 2 weeks. Your game will either end on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (this will rotate and change every round so please check the Draw for when your game ends for that particular round). You can also get an extension if you don't think you'll make the deadline, which will last 48 hours. Read more on that here.

Q: What if I can't submit for a round or have to quit entirely?

We have a reserve player system in place in the instance where players can't write for a round or need to quit due to various real-life reasons. You can find out more about how reserves work here.

Q: How long does my story have to be? What rating does the content have to be?

We have a word count for the purpose of this competition. Your story should be anywhere between 1000-3000 words long. And the content should be T-rated. Read this post to know more, and this post to find out what happens if you don't meet the word count or the story rating.

Q: Can I submit stories that belong to other fandoms as well?

No. As this is a Harry Potter competition, we will only be accepting stories that are HP-related and are marked under HP. However, we do accept Fantastic Beasts or Cursed Child stories. Read more on that here.

Q: How do I know if I'll be in the finals? What if there's a tie?

This post details how teams make it to the finals and what happens in the event of a tie.

Q: I said 'yes' to getting scores and feedback. What does that mean?

It means that, every round, you will receive feedback on your submission for that round. This is judged by an anonymous panel of judges, and the story will be scored based on a rubric, which you can find here.

Q: Where can I see my scores and feedback?

You, and whoever else you choose to share it with, will have access to a Google doc where your scores and feedback will be uploaded every round. Read this post to learn more about how to access your doc.

Q: I am a Chaser/Beater. What are these optional prompts I have access to, and how do bonus points work?

We have provided an in-depth explanation of this in this post, as well as how to use said optional prompts in order to get as many bonus points as possible.

Q: What if I want to make a complaint or have a concern?

You can approach us with any queries or complaints you have by sending a PM to The Quidditch League. For more information on how to go about this, please read this post. For information on the kind of subjects you can approach us with, please read this post.

Q: What if someone cheats? Or seriously bullies someone? What happens then?

We have a warning system in place for these situations. Based on the severity of the action, the consequence will be determined appropriately.

Q: What if I have extenuating circumstances that are detrimental to my team?

In case of extenuating circumstances, we will make allowances based on a case-to-case basis. Please refer to this post for more info, or contact us if you have more questions.

If you have a question that hasn't already been answered above, please post here or drop us a PM. :)

Captain tryouts are now closed. Player tryouts are now open!

Do the signups before this post not count? Because I know I was precise to the given counter to second.

Do we have any idea of the timeline for the upcoming season? Like the date of the first round?

3/17/2019 #9
The Quidditch League
Yes, we do. At the current moment, we intend to close player tryouts on the 24th of March and post round 1 on the 31st of March so that all players and teams have time to get settled in, familiarise themselves with rules and the general workings of the forum, and write for the practice round if they'd like. :) If there are any changes to these dates, we will most definitely keep everyone updated. :)

Quick question can our submissions for each round also be used as gift fics? If not that's totally fine.
3/17/2019 #11
The Quidditch League
Absolutely :) you can combine your submissions with any other competitions or such as well as long as they meet QLFC's criteria (like word limit, rating, content, fandom, etc). :)

Hi! I'm totally new to this and I'm a bit confused about the change rooms. How do we find our team's room?

3/18/2019 #14
The Quidditch League

Hi! The link to your changing room is here! https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/218720/176260196/1/Changing-Room-Tutshill-Tornados-Season-7

For future reference, you can scroll down the list of threads and find yours by looking for the one marked [CHANGING ROOM] Tutshill Tornados (Season 7). It might be on the second page sometimes, although there isn't one yet.

What time are the rounds posted? Isn't it like 6pm UCT? (if I remember right?! Trying to work out GMT/BST time)

The Quidditch League
6pm UTC, yes. :)

What's going to happen if teams aren't full by the deadline? Will tryouts be extended? Or will you absolve those who don't have enough players and put them in the teams that still need players? Just curious as deadline is only 2 days away now
3/22/2019 #18
The Quidditch League

The deadline for player tryouts was pushed back when we delayed captains tryouts to give a slightly longer break between seasons, so you still have another week to fill slots.

Like with all previous seasons, we will be inviting users to the forum throughout this period, and as usual, captains are encouraged to recruit their own team members should they feel like their team may not fill by the first round (and captains are in fact much more likely to receive a positive response than we are)

Ah, okay. Im going to try some promo work on tumblr in the next day or so in that case!

4/6/2019 #22
The Quidditch League

Hi Frank!

Yes, rounds will start tomorrow if everything goes according to plan. We'll PM your Captains and post on the Achievements and Important Updates thread if not.

When will the next Daily Prophet be posted? I'm a bit rusty on the new posting times. :')
4/7/2019 #28
The Quidditch League

Hi Kat :)

We've delayed the Daily Prophet by a week, since we didn't want it to clash with the rounds!
