I do not think we should have MA on this site. There are other sites to put that stuff on. If this site does not want it then I will not complain. And it is also gross as well.

8/5/2012 #95

Hey Ebony :) What is it about M rating that you find gross?

M is alright since it does not go into too much detail. MA goes way too far for me. And there are a lot of kids that use this site. Material such as that should not be put onto this site. I can understand why the admins do not allow such stuff. It belongs on other websites.

No, they shouldn't not have it at all. They could have a filter like youtube and so many other websites. They should ask for they person's age when reading MA so that they can read it. If a kid lies about their age, there's nothing the site can do about it. They took all the legal steps. They don't even need a filter. They could simply have a warning before every MA story you read. If a person doesn't want to read it, so be it. If they do want to or continue anyway, they have no right to complain. There's even more options than that for MA.

I think the reason FF hasn't put MA back is not because of all the complaints they'll receive, or anything like that. I think they are just too lazy to put it back, despite how many MORE users they'll get on this site, or how much MORE popular and well known it'll be all over the web. They don't care at all. Though if it's down to complaints, people have no right to complain if the MA stuff is clearly marked.

8/5/2012 #98
Ebony Maria Brown

I think you are right. It is too much effort for the admins anyway. As long as someone can post their MA stories somewhere else I do not think it is needed on this site. A MA filter might be good - so you do not have to go through all the sick stuff some people write - but you cannot get everything you want.

Hey guys, I totally get what your saying about the MA rated material being too extreme for some people. And I get why FanFiction.Net wants to protect people from stumbling across material that may upset them. At the same time, I get that some people say that if MA rated material isn't for you, then just don't read it. In the end, it's up to the administrators and if people don't like the way they handle their site, go elsewhere. The best way to change things is not by petition but rather take your business elsewhere. If FanFiction.Net changes the way they do things and enough people leave, they might consider changing it back. In the end, you all have choices.

Speaking of which, I just posted chapter 3 of my series "Supernatural / Demons from the South." It is on adultfanfiction.net but this particular story has no sex in it. It's basically a segue into chapters 4 and 5 where it gets pretty steamy again. I do warn you NOT to read chapters 1 and 2 if explicit material is upsetting to you.

Wait, are we talking MA as in NC-17? Something that's already all over this site anyway?

Thank you. I do agree that FF needs to bring back MA with a filter (or at least a warning) because it would make everyone happy. People don't have to read MA, yet they can if they want.

As for the filter, FF.N might WANT to install one. But they surely have reasons as to WHY they can't.

It could be too expensive at the moment. I mean, they spend money on this site, right? When they update, it's usually not huge. The biggest change since I've been here was the image manager. Plus there's not really anything besides the ads (that I've noticed, anyways) that makes them any money. Ads generally dictate what you can and can't have on a site. A member of the CU pointed out that if this site get's a reputation for being a pornography site, they'll loose ad deals. If the site had a premium service (or something members would have to pay for) they wouldn't have to rely on ads. But they want to keep the service completely free, so I guess that's a fair reason.

It could be because they are far too busy changing other stuff on the site right now. They are trying to focus on more important things like browser speed and overall site performance. I know you guys want the MA rating and a filter. So do I! Totally. But after a moment of thinking it over, I knew that FF.N was trying to work hard to make sure this site and Fictionpress were working for all browsers. If they didn't do that first, we would find it hard to use this site, if at all, for posting stories.

It could be because FF.N knows that most of it's active users are underage. Alot of it's users are crazed teenage fangirls from what I've heard. So they think we don't need MA for this reason, because it'll be a waste of their time. But they obviously don't know that their site has a lot of adults wanting it back, protesting like some of the kids. If kids lie about their age to read MA stuff, parents have no right to complain. FF.N took all the legal steps if they have a filter.

Or it could simply be because they can't be bothered, like I suggested earlier. They can't be bothered to put MA back because they don't want any complaints or trouble.

I, for one, would like to see it's return. It'll draw more users, and traffic for the site. It'll be more popular on the internet and so on. I think FF realizes this, or they should. But it's a privately owned site, so they can do whatever.

I can understand why advertisement do not want to affiliated themselves with sick MA stuff. They have all rights to complain. This site is only doing what is needed to keep this site afloat. If people do not like it then they should leave it completely.

I think I'm missing something here. I'm not sure I understand what you guys mean by filters. Isn't there already a filter? That little button you press where can request what rating of fic you want to read? It gives you the option of all ratings, then K-T, K-K, K, K, T, and M. Is this not a filter? You choose T and it just gives you T rated stories. You choose K and it gives you K rated. What am I missing here?

8/8/2012 #105
XxxCathylovexxX

When we're talking about the MA filter, it's something that a lot of sites (YouTube, DeviantART, etc) where if something is rated MA or adult or something along those lines, they use a filter so that the underage can't access it legally without parental permission. Doesn't stop them from lying about their age, but still. Some sites (Zazzle. My mom has a store there) use credit card verification as a security measure but it's not necessary.

Sorry for double posting. I'm talking to Ebony.

It depends on the business or purpose of the ads. If the ad was for an adult site with sexy stuff, they wouldn't mind. However, if it was an ad for diapers for babies, they really wouldn't want to associate with MA stuff, especially sex.

The Sleeping Tide: i love it! you are totally right, ive had that same thing done to me where someone reviewed just to complain, and even after they reviewed one story, saying the extact same thing you said, that its "garbage" they went ahead and read my other stories too, STUPID!!! i had warnings on my description, why would you even go in to say my gay story is a "monstrosity to god", duh, these are people who dont actually write any stories and when they see good work they critizise to make themsevles feel better, they are whats known as "cyberbullies"

@Cristina reid: Do you have moderate reviews on now? Because I love that.

The Sleeping Tide

I said it before and will say it again, FF.net can just do what Aff has done, put up a filter something you have to sing verifying that you are a certain age. Legally no one can sue or anything because FF.net will have covered their ass.

I swear reader ignore any warnings and whine, bitch, moan or out right attack the writer. There are warning for a reason. FF.net does have a small sect of asshole who think they have the right to bash any fic that has anything other then heterosexual relationships in it.

Cyberbullies don't care, they like to attack others to make themselves feel like big people when in reality they are just shallow, close minded tiny people who feel the need to force their views down some one's throat.

A few days ago I was attacked via IM all because one of my AU CC is a hermaphrodite. I made it very clear on my RP Wanted add that I don't do strict canon. I only do head canon and AU. I only write fanfics that are head canons and Au's as well.

Some people just hate slash of nay kind and hate any one who dares to be different and have a character that is of a different sexuality even if it doenst really effect the character.

8/15/2012 #113
XxxCathylovexxX

Yep. Like I said, if FF had a filter, their ass would be covered. They don't even have to have a filter like that! They can simply have a warning before each and every MA rated story with a disclaimer saying they are not responsible if you continue to read the story.

If anyone has been following my story, chapter 5 is up. Again, let me warn you that my writing is MA rated and extremely explicit. DO NOT follow this link if graphic descriptions of sexual situations are upsetting to you or if you are under 18. When you go to the site you will be asked to verify that you are 18 or older. DO NOT lie. If you do, you can be prosecuted under the laws of perjury.

Also, if you like my writing, feel free to add me on Facebook. There are pictures of me with Sam and Dean; plus I'm super cute. ;)

They are just cyberbullies. If your fic has something in it they don't like, has a pairing they don't like, has content they don't agree with, the CC are not strict canon and the like they believe they have the right to attack the writer and call the fic' toxic waste' or garbage' or steaming pile of crap'

They ignore nay warnings and tear fics apart all because they don't agree with it and report any fic because they can. Its not even CC, its just attacks. They like to make themselves feel better by 'cleaning up' FF.net of fics they don't like and its that simple. They are just assholes.

It would be nice to see NC-17 fics back up on FF.net. it would do it a massive amount of good.

Has anyone actually tried to email support with this idea? Because this would be a really good thing if it ever came to pass.

Would do it myself, but, you know... hard to put into words... and stuff... but I'd really appreciate anyone who would.

I'm kind of with you, Zokolov, on the whole emailing the site. I hate it when I hate to report fics for this reason because find it hard to put into words.

Anyone have Twitter? Because then you can tweet the MA idea to them.

8/29/2012 #118
The Sleeping Tide

The owners of FF.net are notorious for ignoring people when it comes to things like this. They won't bother to listen to any one and bring NC-17 back even if they covered their asses legally because they will cave to the first bunch of panty waist whiners that complain just like last time.

Some Power Rangers Alt group flipped the mother of all tits over some fic because they didn't agree with it. Every whiner came out of the wood work after that and instead of covering their asses with a simple e-signature or something simaler they just took the easiest route and punished every one by removing all NC-17 fics
